   “Julie? Are you there?” She no longer heard any ringing from the other end, and no voicemail message began. Jenny hoped that finally, some sort of communications were back online after the disaster in Vale.

the screen of her scroll showed an image of jenny flickering and glitching until finally the screen went black. without a picture to see, she couldn’t read her sister’s lips and thus her last few sentences went unsent.

[ mssg ] the video call stopped. [ mssg ] i’m not even sure if this is getting through.

ROSE   LIPS   PURSED,   less in response to jackie’s vulgar vocabulary but to the idea that she’d have to summon the courage to say something similar. she didn’t particularly want to leave jeanne and father on a bad note, she knew it would upset momma. however, she was aware that any attempt to leave permanently would put her under fire from their father. he was protective to a fault, too protective, too oppressive, too suffocating. he’d brought up the idea casually, while talking to jenny years ago, and when he had overheard had been met with a speech which basically said   ‶ someone like you will have trouble out there, on your own. ‶   she had no idea whether he’d been talking about her impairment, or her personality. all she knew was that she wanted to leave.
