Most Beloved (non-canon) Queer Ship Tournament - Round 2
Which queer ship do you love more?
Sonadow (Sonic The Hedgehog)*
Ken Hutchinson x David Starsky (Starsky and Hutch)*
Shouta Aizawa/Hizashi Yamada (EraserMic) (Boku No Hero Academia)*
how dare you make me choose
Disclaimer: This tournament is based on submissions! Please respect all identities, characters and fandoms! Hate will get you blocked instantly!
Here are some reasons that Starsky/Hutch is an iconic queer ship:
You know fan edits? The very first ones made with VCRs were Starsky & Hutch edits! In 1980, two fans hooked their VCRs together and dubbed music over S&H scenes. These were likely the earliest fan edits using video. One of these vids, The Rose, has been digitized and posted online here: https://video.starskyandhutcharchive.net/the-rose/
The actors knew Starsky and Hutch loved each other. In 1977, David Soul (Hutch) gave an interview with the gay newspaper The Advocate, where the interviewer asked, “Do you feel Starsky & Hutch is a love story between two men?” and David Soul answered, “Yes, I do.” And in 2021, Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky) gave an interview where he said, “It’s important to understand that yeah, there’s homoerotic elements.”
Starsky and Hutch are the kings of hurt/comfort cradling and cuddling! If you love hurt/comfort, you should definitely check out this pairing.
Finally, just look at them!
gotta love an origin story 👽 here's a brief history of our national sport for anyone wondering how it all started...
Is this play required reading for TV cops or what? Shakespeare’s “Antony and Cleopatra” in Starsky & Hutch and Due South, twenty years apart.
After Ray made him watch “Satan’s Witches”, Fraser realized he had been doing it wrong all these years - yes, David Starsky could teach him a lesson or two in proper attitude of wearing red longjohns. Not to mention finding a better fit…
(I’ve only watched the first seasons of dS once, but I have a feeling that there was a slightly better fitting pair there, though nothing close to Starsky standards. The crotch of Fraser’s S3-S4 longjohns sags literally halfway down to his knees and that’s a pretty sad look. Unsurprisingly, when Denny Scarpa (who is smaller than Fraser) wears those longjohns in “Odds”, they are rather snug on her. Not fair. Someone owes us a good Starsky pose in that outfit, right?)
the more I rewatch starsky and hutch the more I realise how much of due south is just directly lifted from it, haha.
- an episode focused on a country singer being threatened and one partner getting pulled into the limelight
- a thinly veiled joke about how much they’re like butch cassidy and the sundance kid
- a two parter set on a ship in which they have to go undercover
- a storyline about a psychic helping them find a kidnapped girl
- going undercover in a mental facility as a patient
- mr. warfield =/= mr. amboy
- a flashback episode where one partner tries to help another remember their relationship
- both penultimate episodes in both series are about the partners having weird feelings about a woman and then ultimately choosing each other
I MEAN, I know a lot of these are just tropes and you see them in a lot of shows but what really tops it off is ray k’s “straight up, I’m starsky, he’s hutch”.
also the fact that these are two shows in which the hinted love between two partners is end game.
And these, too:
- the boxing episodes where a respected trainer turns out to be a bit shady (The Heavyweight/Mountie and Soul)
- “next time, you can forget my pride”/“next time, help” after one of them fights a bad guy twice his size without getting any meaningful assistance from his partner who has his reasons not to interfere (Kill Huggy Bear/Mountie and Soul)
- word association involving the word “closet” (The Game/Strange Bedfellows)
- awkwardly squeezing past each other to switch places inside the car, when anyone else would’ve just gotten out of the car and done the switch in half the time it takes these two pairs of dorks to do it their highly homoerotic way (Bust Amboy/Mojo Rising)
One more: our resident wrestling/boxing experts - Hutch in Omaha Tiger and RayK in Mountie and Soul - step into the ring in an equally graceful style.

Does hutch singing black bean soup imply
a) that hutch wrote it or
b) (funnier option) that david soul exists in the s&h universe and hutch listens to his music. And hutch is a massive egoist who of course thinks david soul is tremendous
I cannot stop thinking about this second option😀
B) definitely! Now we need that fic!
the thing is when people say a specific fanfic trope comes from supernatural they usually mean "it was invented by the supernatural fandom in a fanfic". on the other hand, when people say a specific fanfic trope comes from star trek, they mean "it was the plot of at least one star trek episode"

This is really gonna piss some people off. 😏. …Gotta love it.
Found an interview with both of them, which are weirdly kinda hard to find? Anyway these are my idiots and I love them.
Anyone else think Hutch banged that nurse simply because he was so turned on by what Starsky just did, he had to do something about it immediately? I mean, look at his face! What else could that expression mean? My boy was in shock.
Gif at half speed for science (had to cut off the end to make the file size small enough to upload):
