Practice like a little kid! Plan the next 5 minutes of your art learning task, not the next lifetime.

When you set an improvement goal, don't be broad. These will feel abstract and intangible: -''Get better at art'' -''Practice more'' -''Learn to draw hand anatomy.'' Instead, be very very specific, and do it almost immediately. These will feel understandable and within your grasp: -''Try following this tutorial I found while I read it" -"Draw 5 eyes in a row and then rate them." -"Trace this hand, then copy it, then try and draw it without looking." Try having a conversation with yourself that goes like this: What have you been wanting to practice lately? -Anatomy. Which part specifically will you work on? -Lips. How will you practice lips? -I will find 3 pictures of lips and then draw what I see! Remember what it was like when you were drawing as a small child.?

You didn't ''try to get better at drawing cats'' because that wasn't a goal that made sense. (It still doesn't make sense, lol) Instead you ''tried drawing different tails today'' Try to go back to that simplicity from time to time, and you will be a happier artist!

One of the white participants left the session and went back to her desk, upset at receiving (what appeared to the training team as) sensitive and diplomatic feedback on how some of her statements had impacted several of the people of color in the room. […] [Later] her friends wanted to alert us to the fact that she was in poor health and “might be having a heart attack.” Upon questioning from us, they clarified that they meant this literally. These co-workers were sincere in their fear that the young woman might actually die as a result of the feedback.
