“It was long, long ago, when last I gazed on that dear face, kissed those pale, wrinkled cheeks, and tried to fathom the depths of those blue eyes, in which were hidden so much goodness and love. Long ago it was when, for the last time, those aged hands blessed me.”

I will never not be obsessed with Tommy Lee Jones in the Eyes of Laura Mars (1978).
First of all, the wardrobe. In this movie, Tommy isn’t your average American man covered in Doritos dust wearing an Adidas tracksuit. The costume design by Theoni V. Aldredge was on point and he looked sharp and polished in every tweed coat, turtleneck, fitted suit, dress shirt and blazer jacket.
But at the same time, Tommy had a unibrow and was an ex-football player gymcel irl so you know he’s too masculine to be an actual New Yorker and is really a Texan. His hardened cop character John Neville is tough but well dressed for the brutal NY winter, dating Faye Dunaway, investigating fashion model murders, and hiding a dark secret.
Also Tommy wrote his character’s best dialogue but he was modest and took no credit which he instead gave to director Irvin Kershner.
