well hey now, cybersmith, i think that’s pretty rude. all you need to do is program it not to hit things, what’s so complicated about that

Because you have to:

A: determine what a “thing” is.

B: identify “things” in the vehicle’s surroundings.

C: correctly predict the vehicle’s future path.

D: take proper action if a “thing” is located in the vehicle’s path.

All of this must take place in real-time, and can only run on the vehicle’s onboard computer.

Each of these tasks must be able to output and input data in a way that the other tasks can interpret.

Each of these tasks, by themselves, have sufficient internal complexity to warrant multiple academic monographs.
