If I was a mermaid in the H2Oniverse I would constantly change my hair and top like I was saving preset outfits in a video game.

see ive thought about this a lot and the only answer i can thoroughly come to a conclusion as would have to be that the top is scales and non removable.

many eps have been established that their skin cells mutate into scales. it would be hella weird if their skin mutated into a removable bikini top lol

but the episode about emma’s hair is so interesting bc it opens up so many questions. what if they got a piercing in mermaid form, or a tattoo in their human form- would it transfer over to their other forms? what’s so interesting is that only the girls legs and chest appear to mutate. however, red herring implies that ALL their cells mutate upon contact with water, hence why emma’s red hair changed once she became human again. even though there is usually no surface level change in their hair, there is on a cellular level
