I don't know why, but something about this art of Sandalphon in Rising is making me point excitedly and go "There he is!"
Maybe it's that his eyes are hidden but he's still smiling? I've said before (maybe too much, oops) that I've never seen Sandy as "domesticated" so much as him learning to channel his mental/emotional energy better, and this pose and expression really seems to capture that. He's also alone in a room only illuminated by the light of day coming in through the windows--it's this wonderful sense of hope and also "he's not as domesticated as you think".
Speaking of that empty room: until Lucifer's cocoon and the Grandcypher, Sandalphon never really had a right to privacy. In that shaded garden, and later Pandemonium, he was always being observed by eyes he couldn't see. No wonder he stayed holed up in his room on the Grandcypher when he first joined the crew, that room was a luxury beyond price. So there's something a little uncomfortable about this art, to me, like he's once again being observed without his knowledge. Or maybe he's so used to it, he expects to be watched even when there's no-one around?
In conclusion: this art gives me a sense of hope and the creeps at the same time, and I love it.

It's not a virtue to focus totally on your own peace and disregard problems around you. Ironically, it's also not a virtue to stew in your own anxiety.
People online like "I will NOT seek peace while there is suffering around me! I will inflict suffering on myself as long as there is pain in the world!"
Cool, that's useless.
It's one thing if you say "As long as there are hungry people in my community, I'll stay engaged with the food bank," (which probably will actually comfort you because you'll be surrounded by people working for a solution!) but for a lot of people it's "As long as there is suffering in the world, I will self-flagellate with sad Instagram reels," and you might as well not.
saw an elderly woman walking around with a tote bag whose design were the four AO3 fic category squares and she very excitedly asked if i was a reader or a writer bcs nobody else at the con had recognized it, and after telling her that i've been writing fic since fanfic.net, she solemnly nodded and explained that she'd been reading fic since "the days of personal websites" but that she only started writing fanfic when she was 47 and oh my god when i tell you that i genuinely teared up on the spot!!!!! like!!! HELL YEAH???? LITERALLY NEVER TOO OLD TO START WRITING. NEVER TOO OLD TO WRITE AND SHARE YOUR FIC.
her enthusiastic "i'm a very nice and bubbly person, i swear! but i love writing angst and major character death :)" nearly took me the fuck out.
