“was i staring? oh my goodness, i apologise,” he immediately looks away, eyeing the concrete below his feet instead. his words sound as if they’re hinting at a touch of sarcasm, but he truly was sorry. “i’m afraid i have forgotten how to blink…,” he murmurs then, still staring at the ground with slightly widened eyes. he always got like this after yet another night of letting himself go, reaching for the bottle of poison he was trying to avoid for so long.

aurelia  secretly  felt  bad  for  the  guy.  because  by  his  demeanor,  she  could  see  that  he  was  kind  of  like  her.  or  the  her  she  was  when  no  one  was  looking,  the  real  her.  but  she  didn’t  want  anyone  to  know  the  real  her.  the  real  her  was  too sad  so  she  had  to  let  them  know  the  version  of  her  that  they  absolutely  ate  up.  she  tapped  her  foot  lightly  before  saying,  “  you  know,  you  could  take  a  picture.  it  lasts  longer.  ”  a  cliche  line  for  sure  but  what  was  aurelia  other  than  the cliche  rude  girl?

                “  i  don’t  doubt  that  for  a  second.  ”  alexandra  exclaimed,  knowing  how  people  can  be.  she  wasted  no  time,  adjusting  the  shades  on  her  face  before  she  sat  on  the  pool  chair,  leaning  back  and  closing  her  eyes  (which  couldn’t  be  seen  unless  you  take  her  shades  off).  “  i  feel  like  that  girl  off  of  high  school  musical,  the  one  who  always  wears  pink  —  sharpay.  she  always  looked  amazing  just,  like,  lounging  around  the  pool.  ”  moving  a  strand  of  hair  from  her  face,  she  turned  her  head  and  smiled  right  at  aurelia,  tilting  her  head  to  the  side.  “  so,  how  are  things  with  you?  hot  and  steamy,  i  hope.  ”  she  let  out  a  small  giggle.

                “  yeah,  this  fucking  guy  almost  got  me  completely  drenched.  ”  of  course,  what  could  the  brunette  expect  at  a  pool?  but  she  never  went  to  the  pool  with  the  intention  of  getting  in  the  water.  no,  aurelia  laying  by  the  pool  was  the  perfect  aesthetic  post.  and  that  was  the  sole  reason  she  was  even  at  the  pool  in  the  first  place.  it’s  not  like  she  was  actually  getting  anything  out  of  being  there.  “  oh  my  god,  sharpay  was  my  fucking  favorite.  what  a  bad  bitch  who  kept  getting  her  show  stolen.  ”  she  was  just  regurgitating  hot  takes  she  had  seen  on  twitter  at  this  point  because  in  all  honesty,  when  she  watched  high  school  musical,  the  person  she  related  to  most  was  gabriella  and  not  sharpay.  aurelia  lets  out  a  laugh  at  alexandra’s  question.  “  you  know  it, girl.  nothing  but  parties  and  parties  and  more  parties. ”

aurelia  fucked  shit  up  at  the  party  like  she normally  did  .  nothing  too  wild  this  night  though,  just  some  good  old  wild  child  drunken  behavior  .  but  definitely  enough  to  get  everyone  talking  about  it  the  next  day  .  but  after  the  party  was  over  and  she  was  standing  outside  ,  she  couldn’t  help  but  feel  the  ache  that  had  been  following  her  around  her  entire  life  .  the  only  way  she  knew  how  to  make  it  seem  like  it  wasn’t  there  was  to  get  into  a  fight  with  someone  .  it  was  like  a  distraction  from  the  real  fight  she  was  having  with  herself  .  “  you’re  the  rude  fucking  bitch  .  ”  she  stepped  towards  the  blonde  ,  almost  as  if  ready  to  get  into  a  physical  altercation  ,  even  going  as  far  to  raise  her  hand  towards  her  ,  only  to  take  a  step  back  and  laugh  .  “ you’re  lucky  i  just  got  my nails  done  and  don’t  want  to  ruin  them  .  ”

                “  i’m  here!  ”  alexandra  called  out,  running  towards  the  other  with  her  throwover  blowing  in  the  wind  as  she  ran  to  meet  up  with  her  friend  by  the  pool.  “  hope  i  didn’t,  like,  keep  you  waiting  for  too  long!  dad  called  me  trying  to  remind  me  about  the  importance  of  making  the  family  look  good,  as  if  i  need  any  sort  of  lectures  from  that  man.  ”  the  cheating  asshole.  she  rolled  her  eyes,  putting  her  bag  down  on  the  pool  chair  next  to  her.  instantly,  the  throwover  came  off,  revealing  her  bikini  that  she  had  on.  she  started  to  unpack  her  bag,  taking  out  everything  she  needed  and  putting  the  throwover  in  its  place.  “  has  anything  interesting  happened  before  i  got  here?  ”

sitting  by  the  pool  and  taking  selfies  might  seem  like  a  small  thing  to  some  people  but  for  aurelia,  it  was  work.  sure,  the  work  wasn’t  hard  nor  meaningful  but  performing  her  life  online  was  what  she  was  apparently  best  at.  she  waved  when  she  saw  alexandra.  “  no  worries,  girlie.  ugh,  fathers  can  be  the  worst.  my  dad  is  always  on  my  ass  about  whatever  tmz  writes  about  me.  ”  she  laughed,  partly  because  most  of  what  tmz  wrote  about  her  was  all  fake,  just  like  her  social  media  presence  as  an influencer.  a  performance.  but  no  one  needed  to  know  that.  “  oh, you  know,  just  some  people  being  cunts  so  nothing  out  of  the  usual.  ”

“you don’t think? do you not believe in soulmates?” the male asked, following her gaze to the small crowd of photographers who were eyeing them closely, causing him to smile and wave at them in a friendly manner, he knew paparazzi were an annoyance at the best of times but it didn’t cost anything to be friendly. “five? no i’m twenty three, why do you ask?” he raised a brow, taking another large sip of his beer, waiting patiently for the femme’s response.

"soulmates? oh, hell no.” aurelia couldn’t actually tell if she was lying or not. her parents' divorce made her think that maybe love and marriage was a sham. but deep down, she knew that she wanted to believe in soulmates, in love. but she couldn’t let anyone else know that. when ryder waved to the paparazzi, aurelia once again rolled her eyes and flipped them off. it was a fun little game, the thing she had going with the paps. she would act outrageous, they would cover it, they both won because it made them both money. “because only a five year old would ask for a fuckin’ cheeseburger after he just talked about lobster.”
