I do really love it when women write graphic and fucked up things. I feel like so often people react to fucked up fiction with “of course a disgusting man would write this 🙄” and it often carries an unspoken (honestly sometimes spoken) message of “a woman’s PURE and DELICATE and FEMININE mind could NEVER think of something this VILE”. as a writer, it’s very important that you know this: whenever you tell yourself “this will only be one-chapter-long” that is a lie. your brain is lying to you. it won’t, in fact, be just a short one-shot

please stop trying to apply rules on hobbies and something that’s supposed to be your comfort place and a form of self-care.

“is it okay if I think this” “is it okay if I imagine that” it’s YOUR little world that you create for yourself and your own enjoyment. you literally do not need strangers’ opinions or permission when it comes to a hobby that doesn’t harm or affect anybody in real life. again, it’s YOUR imagination, YOUR world, YOUR creation. you have all the power and the freedom to:

i've posted before that for dragon, garp being the object of his disillusionment probably a lot to do with his desire to distance himself from luffy beyond the obvious reasons. and I have been a little bit obsessed with garp as daedelus; as someone trapped in his own construct (marines) and building the devices of his own tragedy. and i mean he did kind of kill his nephew.

the idea of this thing and trauma being built for you by your father, and you recognize it being your own downfall, but also wanting to tear it down with everything else he has built, suits them pretty well.

i think dragon being like icarus works because in a way it takes a hell of a lot of ego and stubbornness to want to change the whole world. but because of his previous failures and self-sacrificial nature he would not take flight for something selfish like being with his son when he is sure it will endanger luffy and the revs and he wont be strong enough to protect them (gv). even with all the damage that did to luffy and him developing a incredibly deep fear of loneliness. es un trauma generacional :(

garp also kept trying to build another set of wings for luffy so he can be strong enough and take flight himself. even if the path he designed was also doomed. luffy being the sun is pretty corny for obvious reasons lol.

A Legacy isn’t a Mirror, it’s a Telephone

I was re-reading some One Piece and theirs an underlying theme not brought up. Much like the Will of D theirs many people carrying the wills of those they admire Xebec following Davy Jones and Loki following Xebec. Roger following Joy Boy, Shanks following Roger and Luffy following Shanks and Roger. Dragon carrying the Will of D and even the Elders following Imu and the Admirals following the Elders.

Each seems distinct despite this and that’s intentional. Their heroes aren’t who they build in their minds. Roger was a great hero to many and faced against Imu yet Roger was no Saint. He attacked Gods Valley to take and not save, Garp described him as a loyal and dangerous man with the heart of a Child. He even once destroyed an entire island because a friend was insulted. He even had an appointed torturer. The greatest reveal is that everyone who stuck with him on his ship knows the secret everyone wants to discover. None of them will tell us what it is and it doesn’t seem out of fear either.

Joy Boy was also a great hero to many but Joy Boy in his pursuit of Freedom became not only the first Pirate but destroyed so much of the world, made promises he never kept and the two who remember him and still follow his orders ask for his forgiveness. Why? Why does Zunesha walk forever, punished by a voice he can’t outrun? Why does Emeth apologize even while rusting away like it was meant to come earlier? If two witnesses beg for forgiveness then something broke twice.

Shanks follows Roger’s lead. He’s a loyal man, a caring man and those two things are also a problem. Shanks will burn ships for disrespecting him regardless of who they are. Shanks will burn down entire armies for disrespecting someone else. His first act when we meet him is letting some no name thugs push him around but once they threaten Luffy he was already going to kill them regardless of how much they asked for forgiveness or surrendered. “Pirates don’t play fair”

Luffy himself isn’t the purest person. He refuses to protect people if they aren’t willing to to defend themselves. Everyone remembers Luffy punching a celestial dragon but no one remembers what led up to that. Luffy had no interest in freeing the slaves, he wasn’t fighting for any of these innocent people. He punched that monster specifically for disrespecting someone he cares about. Luffy saving Civilizations is an added bonus for anyone involved but that’s never his initial plan. It is simply a consequence of hurting his friends

Xebec is a follower of Davy Jones and although we don’t know much about him all the stories tell of a man so dangerous he was regarded like a Devil. He took all that he wanted, destroyed what got in his way and even challenged a god and was banished to the bottom of the sea for his actions. To this day the followers of Davy Jones honor him with a contest of power to take an entire crew and ship from the loser. Even offering money to the sea because “all things that sink belong to Davy Jones”

Xebec sees and knows all of this and declares himself a devotee of Davy Jones. Choosing to see this power hunger and greed as true freedom and his inspiration to fight against the World Government and Imu himself.

Loki sees this attitude of Xebec and follows how he sees Xebec believing in strength and power as truth and freedom.

Imu from what little we know resented the chaos brought by Joyboy and his freedom and wanted to squash that chaos. In the aftermath he forged a government that spanned the world. The ones who follow him believe in his mission truly and use subtle oppressions to maintain an order and hierarchy. They believe in this so deeply that they show actual concern when Imu decides to leave the Palace.

The Navy of the World Government and the Admirals also believe in law and order. They want all the islands and nations of the world to be at peace and see the chaos and destruction Pirates are bringing and want to end it for the safety of everyone. Luffy and his crew are heroes but theirs also Pirates who hold islands and nations hostage constantly. So this concern is well founded. The ones who created might be corrupt but the goal itself isn’t.

This is the true genius of how Oda writes morality in One Piece. You can have your heroes, the people who inspire you. Even if the people you look up to aren’t saints what you get out of them is never exactly the same as who that person was. Even the most corrupt origin point can have people dedicated to genuine goodness in its honor. It’s like playing a game of telephone. Everyone is trying to repeat the same message but it will inevitably change from person to person.
