Do you have any opinions on the Day Without a Woman strike? I've been debating whether or not to take a vacation day for it, and I always value your opinion!
In theory, I love the idea of a general strike. But I feel like there hasnāt been enough real organizing to make it effective. You canāt just put something on the internet and expect people to magically do it, and for something like this to work, you need participation on a wide scale.
Thatās not to say you shouldnāt do it if you have the vacation time and want to participate. But Iām skeptical of how many women (and who they represent- middle class people with vacation days to take) will be involved.
IDK. Maybe Iām wrong and it will be a success. But the internet is one of many tools and canāt be used in the absence of actual grassroots organizing.
Thank you! This is largely how I was feeling. I really like the idea in theory, but execution hasn't been impressive. If I do stay home that day, I'll be super screwing myself over work-wise, and I'll just have to make up all the work this weekend. I'm willing to do that for an effective protest, but this just doesn't seem to be shaping up that way. I can still avoid spending money that day certainly, but I think I'll likely be clocking in that day.
Things have just been a lot since November. I hope youāre all doing as well as you can be!
In addition to our on going national tragedy and modern surrealist hellscape, work stress is really hitting bad points. I found out that all the really bad teeth aches Iāve been having are from clenching my teeth too much. Getting a night guard; also now noticing myself doing this all the time in waking hours.
I havenāt really been sleeping well since at least the start of the new year, but I think itās been longer than that. Last nightās WIDE AWAKE time was from 1:30-3:30am. With no relaxation techniques working, I ended up sending my boss an email at 3am, detailing out my current and future workload and my concerns for achieving this, and how bad my stress has been (she and I have been having some in person talks about this lately, and sheās been sympathetic and concerned). But she has not responded or acknowledged the email in anyway yet today.
I was running high on anxiety this morning but was managing with my coping techniques. Then my favorite former coworker swung by (I knew she was coming, but I had forgotten). I just heard her voice down the hall, and then I promptly burst into tears and basically slightly sobbed in my cube for a bit but then had to pull myself together when people came by to say hi.
I'd go back to my counselor, but it's really just the same shit. She'll just tell me what I already know: I really need to get a new job. Iām going to work on the resume and send it out a few places on Monday. Iām also going to try to check in with my boss at some point to see about her acting as a reference for me.
I was officially on vacation a little over 2 hours ago. I think I'll be at work for 1 more hour. Then a few more hours tomorrow morning. And then a few on the plane on Saturday. But after that I'm not touching work email for 10 days straight. I'm pumped.
Mushrooms. Ā Theyāre grown on manure, and I grew up near the mushroom capital of the world, and it smells like shit all the time. Ā Also, Oysters are gross af too, and fuck lima beans while weāre on the subject.Ā

Does anyone know if this style of dress has a name? Where it is fitted through the bodice and then has sort of pleating at the high waist so that the dress goes into a very wide skirt pretty immediately?
A California moving company has been donating its time and labor to help victims of domestic violence move safely and quickly.
āGetting out of an abusive relationship isnāt easyābut actually packing up and moving out is even more daunting.
These owners of a California moving company have volunteered to complete the move for them, free of charge.
When they first started their business, Meathead Movers in 1997, the high school athletes were simply looking for a way to earn some extra cash. Ā
As their business grew, the Steeds started getting occasional, frantic phone calls from women with little or no money who wanted to quickly move out before their abusers returned home.
The sympathetic movers always declined any compensation and rushed to the address to load their belongings.
One day, in 2000, a situation turned volatile when the abuser came home in the middle of the move. It was then that the company decided it had to ensure that the women and the moving crew were both safe, so they partnered with a local womenās shelter.
āWhat was good about that is, they could be vetting the requests for help, supporting the women with counseling, and making sure when we went in, the proper restraining orders were in place, or police were on hand if necessary,ā Meatheadās CEO Aaron Steed told Good News Network.
Since those days in 2000, the company has expanded into Santa Barabara, Ventura, Orange, Los Angeles, and San Diego counties. Whenever they open a new office, within the first week, they head to a local womenās shelter and knock on their doors.
āItās the special service we like to offer,ā Aaron said on a phone call. āThese moves became very personal to us, made all the employees so proud, and became part of our mission statement.ā He also said the same services are offered to any victim of domestic violenceāmale or female.
Yesterday, the company launched a new campaign that asks other businesses to āget creativeā and help victims of domestic violence. Called #MoveToEndDV, the Meathead Movers hope to inspire others to rethink how they can work with shelters, or help women as they try to rebuild their lives and move into their first home or apartment.
āSome of our ideas are for businesses to offer free security systems, a dog kennel service, or for an auto-mechanic to provide oil changes,ā Aaron said. āAll those little things would help defer costs of starting over.ā
āWeāre so excited about it,ā said Aaron. āIt brings so much more purpose and passion to our lives and if we can be an example for others, that is so much better.ā

Flight landed at 7:55. Due to gate issues, didnāt get off flight until 8:30. It is now 9:00 and theyāve only gotten out a few of the checked bags, none of which are mine (I check bags all the time at this airport and always get them back quickly). I just want to be home and I hate everything and I am on my last bit of patience with my job, and Iām very concerned that Iām going to straight up scream at people tomorrow of they bother me. Why does every fucking thing have to be such a fucking THING?? Bless vacation in 4 days. Iām throwing my work email into a metaphorical volcano while Iām out.
I am a transgender Female (Male to Female) and I am asking for some help in achieving the necessary funds for my Confirmation surgery. similar posts have been made about her situation in the past, but after over a year and a half since starting her fundraiser, she is still only at 1/6th of her goal and donations have slowed down exponentially.
briana is now 75 years old and she has been fundraising for two years now and is still only at 1/6 of her goal. please please signal boost and if you can please donate

So Richard Spencer graduated from my undergrad institution. I just read an article about how alumni from his high school started a fundraiser for the IRC to show their disgust for Spencerās work. I would like to do the same to benefit SPLC. I feel pretty comfortable with the dissemination and actually getting people to donate. But, I am in new waters here, and I donāt know anything about the legal or financial aspects for this. So, if you have any tips or suggestions, let me know. The people who started the high school fundraiser are unknown to me, so I canāt find a way to contact them. I could maybe reach out to SPLC and see if they have thoughts?
Also, I did just find another fundraiser on crowdrise that is specifically uva alums against Richard Spencer. It has raised $3,400 for the IRC. I really would still like to do one for SPLC. Do you guys still think that is ok?

And omg it is so needed. I did not turn off work doing the holidays. And every person who emails me gets under a new region of my skin. Iām doing everything I can do to prep for the time out and then Iām deleting the work email off of my phone and completely unplugging for twelve days straight. I am so, so excited.
inspired by @greenishplanning and adding this to my bullet journal for 2017! Iām excited to see what the year will ālook likeā when itās complete.
