. I'm a girl of many fears. One of the most prevalent lately has been a worry of being toyed with. Being played a fool. Being taken advantage of in a game of cat and mouse. . I hate becoming the prey, but I never want to become the hunter. I don't think either one is ideal. I like to believe that these games aren't necessary. If you just tell me what you want; no sugar coating, no word games, no omissions. Just tell me exactly what it is you want, even if you aren't sure it's what I would like to hear, just try telling me. I may surprise you with my answers. . . Unfortunately, I'm one of those people that so many make fun of for trying to see the good in everyone, even when they don't deserve it. Even when they've proved me wrong, I still try to be there for them in order to help them find their way. . Maybe it's a good thing, maybe it's not. . I guess I'll never know... What I do know, is that when they finally go dark on you and their light is nothing but a flame blown out by the winds of their soul, it's one of the most freeing feelings. To be left go, even though it may be terrible for them and you feel guilty for finding solace in the lack of light, there's something in the darkness that's so freeing like a weight being lifted off of your soul. . I've had this happen with family. With friends. Sometimes their light will flicker for a bit, and I'll be drawn right back to it; but I know in those moments how painful the heat from their flame can be. I stay at a safe distance and refuse to become as invested as I once was. . Thank God for the people that go dark on you... they were only there to provide a lesson, not a lifetime of experiences. . . . . Very loosely inspired by the song Dark On Me by Starset. . It's one of those days where the thoughts started as soon as I opened my eyes. So I went on my front porch, drank some coffee, and wrote what's been pestering me the most from the back of my mind. . I've always been the girl with the "almost relationships", good enough to talk to, but nothing more. Mix that in with the constant feeling of not being enough for the people around me, and you have a girl that believes she'll always be lonely in a crowded room. I'm a perpetual wallflower; so if I talk to you, I'm going to over analyze everything until I have the answers I need to decide if I should stay or go. . Putting myself "out there" isn't an option, I'm too scared to leave my self constructed cage for that. I'll hold myself back, not admitting any of my feelings to myself or you, until I know if there's a chance for this to work. Because if there isn't, then I don't want to waste my words on something that's destined to fail. I'd rather save them for a time when they're meant to last. . I know that I'm the one to blame for my own lack of relationships and love, but in some sense I'm glad I am this way. I like to believe that I have the control over who breaks my heart first, and since it's inevitable I'd like it to be by someone that's worth it.
