Except instead of ice cream, a movie, and/or spending time with friends to bitch and moan about the failed relationship, Hannibal:
Murdered his pseudo daughter and gutted said ex with his goodbye, literally
Traveled to Europe with his long-suffering psychiatrist
More murder, of course, but sloppy. He's trying to get back on the horse, but self-control is significantly lower, if not gone entirely.
Flirted with a guy that looked like his ex before killing him and leaving him as a valentine to said ex
Finally, after a reunited-cute turned sour, he drugged the ex with the intention of eating his brains because that was more palatable and easier than self-reflection and fostering good communication.
The only similarity was that he did indeed talk incessantly to Bedelia about Will.
Then, after the whole shitshow at Muskrat farm, when Will wanted to break up with him for real, for real, instead of stepping back, Hannibal said he'll put his life on hold actually, make sure Will knows where he is at all times so he won't forget him. So he'll HAVE to think about him. I just KNOW that trial was a shitshow.
The man gave up his freedom, the thing he cherished above all else, and faced down the possibility of the death sentence for a guy he once framed to take his place.
