IT’S LITERALLY HAPPENING LMAOOOOO
Any story which refers to Haiti as an impoverished nation, which is all of them, should also mention that when Haitians won their independence from France, French gunships showed up and demanded they pay something like 22 billion dollars in today's money to compensate France for the stolen land and enslaved people they could no longer exploit
It took Haiti over a hundred years to pay that ransom and it's difficult to explain just how badly that fucked up their entire development, especially since France also demanded a 50% discount on everything they bought from Haiti just to make it harder. Like! No wonder they're impoverished!
Anyway if France would like to assist Haiti in its current difficulties they could always pay back the fucking money they extorted
Companies in the 2000s: You wouldn't download a car! Digital copies are still stealing, even if the original copy remains with us.
Companies in the 2020s: That digital copy, which you have paid for, doesn't really belong to you. We're removing it from your library now.
Companies deleting media you've literally purchased is 1000x more realistically "stealing" than digital piracy, you cannot change my mind
I was trying to describe something that was pissing me off but xkcd already articulated it better than I could
I'm just like. I'm very tired of the hyper individualist cynicism that's so common on here, where so many tumblrinas feel very confident saying that nobody can read, everyone is dumb, most people are unwashed dullards etc. except for me, the very special tumblr user who's smart enough to notice that everyone else is very stupid. come on now.
I think if your worldview relies on the unquestioned assumption that most people suck you're like. how do I put this kindly. philosophically you've maybe never moved past the mindset of a socially uncomfortable seventh grader.
i think ppl would be a lot happier and better-adjusted on here if they realized that being online on a website is like being in any other casual public space full of people. if u walk into walmart u dont immediately think to yourself “i have to be friends with everyone in this walmart and if not everyone likes me i’m a failure” and u really shouldn’t feel that way online either. likewise if there’s a guy in the walmart parking lot shouting obscenities u probably wouldn’t answer him and that’s literally an exact equivalent to some of the weird stuff that people on here seem to feel they’re obligated to respond to.
do you think ned was lowkey a bad father? I mean he let her be all delusional and stuff ned literally hears how utterly delusional and naive she is when she talks about joffrey and never tries to talk some sense into her, never sitting her down and allowing her a glimpse of reality when she was the one who needed it the most, especially after losing lady. of course she doesn't sense any sort of danger when you've allowed her to walk with rose-coloured glasses all her life?
I mean he’s a good character but like sansa never got any real guidance from either parent…like ever?
Do you think that Ned was less delusional than her? Ok, before people come to attack me : PLEASE LET ME EXPLAIN.
Some time ago, someone asked me if Ned ever thought about the possibility of Robert being equally abusive to Lyanna as he was to Cersei and the answer was irrevocably no. Robert himself offered him the perfect opportunity to think about it when Robert himself talked about Lyanna immediately after hurting Cersei (and we see all this from Ned's pov), yet he does not think at all about it. We see Ned being absolutely sure that if Robert knew the truth about Jon he would hurt him, as he has no doubts that Robert would kill Myrcella and Tommen for the only sin to being born till the point to run to Cersei and tell the true despise knowning the danger of it..yet he still has rose-colored glasses around Robert and only genuinely start to understand that Robert is not a good man whan is too late. He saw Robert humiliate and hurt Cersei and still tried to justify it and pretend he was sad for it, no more no less than when Sansa tried to justify Joffrey's violence (Here is also interesting to remind that Joffrey thinks that a true man should use violence because..Robert does it). Now, how can THIS man teach to anyone, including his own daughter, to be less idealistic/more realistic about people and to be less naive? Like how do you think that Sansa is so naive when Catelyn is the most suspicious among all the Stark after maybe only Jon?
Being a parent is not a easy work, and i do not want to blame Eddard Stark for his desire to preserve the naivety and idealism of his very young daughter, she was 11 at the end of the day and to a northern man as him being idealistic was everything, but he was affected by the same curse.
Plus, is it really a curse? I think that people want to see Sansa's naivety and idealism as a con while GRRM see idealism and naivety as a pro. GRRM said more than once that his universe belongs to the dreamers, to those that naively yet stubbornly belives in better days like Brienne of Tarth or Duncan the Tall and i genuinely think that GOT show made a huge disservice to Sansa, Arya and Sandor by making not only Sandor and Arya's bond deeper but by making Sandor being the one that change them and not the reverse.
Sandor is the demonstration that Sansa's kindness and idealism is not weak or passive, but that can forever change someone's life. Sandor did not chose to save Arya because he wanted money and then recognized her cynism and teached her to indulge in it, Sandor constantly talk about Sansa with Arya because Sansa changed him. In my opinion we are not supposed to hate Sansa's naivety or see it as a weakness but to disdain those how take advantage of that naivety. ASOIAF IS NOT CYNIC, GOT IS.
this is insanely racist and I haven't even seen much about this online yet
after Bad Bunny won they added a Latin song category and after Rosé got three nominations the grammys added a k-pop/c-pop/j-pop category they have always been afraid of well-performing artists of color challenging white artists in mainstream categories
Someone will say "as a queer person in the heart of empire, my life is in danger every day" and you'll find out they're a developer for Amazon and live in San Francisco or Seattle or some shit, and then you'll meet a trans girl from Alva, OK who's like "Yeah, things are pretty good. AutoZone moved me to full-time."
Someone in a queer group in my current blue city said that they didn't like expressions of solidarity because it "diluted their oppression".
#That's what I mean when I say the foundation of feminism and queer community should not fixate on victimhood #Once you feel that our suffering is our shared experience an not our love then our suffering becomes vital to the culture #I don't want a culture where suffering is vital #I want a culture where love is celebrated #The suffering is an imposition not a prerequisite #And yeah I sure fucking hope our oppression is diluted bitch you WANT us freebasing the uncut shit???

The Pax Silica initaitive is a joint plan involving the participants such as the UK, US, Israel, the EU to secure rare earth minerals for the silicon supply chain. This plan will involve opening up huge swaths of the island of Luzon to mining and special economic zones, displacing farming communities and threatening the food and water security of thousands.
Primer on the initiative from Philippine social movements:
To be clear, this is NOT a data center, this is rare earth metal extraction and manufacturing, particularly silicon. I'd actually argue that's worse because a single data center can cause a lot of harm but it can be shut down. Meanwhile, rare earth extraction could cause lasting damage including pollution of water, air and land, and habitat destruction.
The original signatories were Australia, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the UK and of course the United States. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pax_Silica
Currently the Wikipedia has a controversies page, though if that gets taken out it should still be in the edit history.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make a post "on time" but, at the end of the day, "time" should never be a restriction on honoring important figures. May Paola Revenioti's memory be eternal. May her activism echo through decades - or even further - to come.
Who was Paola Revenioti?
During the 80s, transgender Greek artist and prostitute Paola Revenioti published the trans-anarchist fanzine Kraximo. Funded by her own prostitution, the zine pioneered the fight for gay and trans rights, combining interviews with Greek poets and intellectuals alongside Athens street hustlers and her own photography, since compared to the work of Larry Clark and Walter Pfeiffer.
She organised protests against the social exclusion of trans people and state repression and police violence, and fighting for LGBTQ+ equality. Her fanzine Kraximo hosted articles by foreign and Greek intellectuals and spoke openly about HIV. Its semi-nude photos of male bodies shocked the public of the time.
The Greek LGBTQ+ free-press outlet Antivirus Magazine reported that Revenioti was the main organiser of the first Pride events in Athens in the 1980s.
She became the first Greek trans woman to run for political office in the 1990 general election, with the Ecological Alternatives party. She ran with the left-wing MeRA25 party in the 2019 and 2023 parliamentary elections, as well as in the 2024 European parliamentary election.
Paola Revenioti died on July 9th, 2026, after a long battle with cancer at the age of 68. Until the end of her life, she continued to work as an artist and activist, making Athens-based documentaries with her “Paola Projects.”

Someday your hands will be old and wrinkled, the skin spotted and bunching over your knuckles. And a child will watch you make something. It's a simple task, you'll have done it a thousand times before. But to that child, the smooth, confident way your hands move will seem like impossible magic. You have to keep living.

for real tho it feels exhausting that ive seen this whole "woman should be allowed to abstain from X beauty standard" -> "i perform X beauty standard, am i evil? do you think im evil? please forgive me i came up with a dozen excuses 🥺" since like 2015 (and i know its been going on longer than that) like girl thats not the poiiiiint
look me in the eyes. repeat after me. "i face societal pressure to perform this beauty standard. i should not face that pressure. i conform to this standard. i am rewarded for performing to this standard. i need to respect women who do not perform this standard. this is not about whether or not i am a sinner for wearing makeup."
