i’ll tell you a secret about straight people who swear up and down that they TOTALLY support gay people and just think being bi is wrong or impossible: they’re full of shit

same with straight people who claim they’re cool with bi people, just not gay people because you shouldn’t close yourself off to straight (read: normal, real) love! they don’t have full respect for any of us.

sometimes a person who says one of these things is even saying the other behind your back.

it’s pointless to waste our time and energy resenting each other based on straight people’s self-serving lies.

as a person who has spent a long time out as bi, and then later came out as a lesbian: the same people will literally say both things to your face knowing full well they have said the complete opposite thing to you in the past.

bi identification got me “just pick a side”, lesbian identification got me “no, not that one”.

making us believe that they’ll treat us with more respect if we pick another identity, any other identity but this one, is just a cruel manipulation strategy. there’s no non-straight identity that will ever satisfy them. it’s a metaphorical carrot on a stick we shouldn’t give in to chasing.
