“Why do I always find you outside?” Kat asked with a little laugh. “But yes, it is wonderful tonight. It is really warm and that’s great.” She sat down next to her. “How are you? Anything new?”
"I l-like the outdoors." Autumn said with a smile, scooting over to make room. "Nothing new. I'm f-f-feeling surprisingly calm since the demon blood in-incident. Th-thank you, by the way."
Matt was heading to the courtyard for a much needed cigarette of the day, when he spotted Autumn. Waving to her as he walked over to sit on the bench next to her, he let out a long breath of smoke in the opposite direction before looking up at the sky. “It is nice tonight, I hadn’t realised.”
Autumn grinned. "I hadn't either until I decided to finally take a break from training."
Marius looked at her with wide eyes, waiting patiently for an answer. “Well, we all once hadn’t killed anyone before.” He shrugs, stating the obvious. “It happens. It has to happen. And like, if you don’t want this, why don’t you just leave?” He asked bluntly.
He started to become a little angry, but his voice was still indifferent. Marius didn’t understand what she expected. Some sort of special treatment? That they cuddle her in cotton and tell her everything will be fine. It won’t. The life that was forced upon her, the life of a Shadowhunter, is harsh and nobody ever makes it easy for one. And yes, maybe she didn’t choose this for herself, but neither did any of the other born Shadowhunters. She had a choice now. She could swallow it up and deal with it - or leave, live a life as a Mundane.
Marius let out a harsh laugh. “Let’s leave aside, that you couldn’t possibly kill me. Not in your current state…. But nobody is asking you to kill innocents? This is war. We’re trying to get rid of the bad ones, the enemies. Of course, I’m not saying there won’t be any casualties. People, who die, although they shouldn’t have. But you just have to learn to move past it. You have to grow a thicker skin.” He threw his hands in the air, not understanding why she can’t just grasp this.
Autumn scoffed. "I n-n-need to grow thicker skin?" She spat. It was rather difficult for anyone to make Autumn angry. Sad or hurt or offended- that was quite easy. But what wasn't easy was getting the girl's blood boiling. "I just hurled a kn-knife at your face." She reminded him, crossing her arms.
Truth be told, Autumn would love to leave. But that wasn't exactly an option. And even if it was, she wouldn't make it into the city before she began to recall what happened the night the demons killed her parents. All that was left was for her to prove herself, and she certainly didn't know how she was going to manage that.
"My apologies for not having m-murder on my bucket list." She said, her cheeks flushing hot. "I'm n-not going to l-leave." She assured him. "Hell if I asked for this, but I'm staying. S-so y-you can eith-either help me, or let me do this myself."
Klaire was walking back into the Institute when she noticed someone in the courtyard and decided to join them. “Hm, yes it is.” She looked down at the plastic bag in her hand and pulled out a packet of biscuits. “Oreo?” she offered.
"Definitely!" Autumn said, pleasantly surprised. "Thank you."
"To answer your question."
"No, I’m perfectly fine. As I said, its not my blood."
"Thank you for your concern though."
"Of course."
"L-let's go get you a towel."
Autumn sat in the courtyard, for what she herself considered a well deserved break, despite the fact that she probably should already be in bed. Training had actually gone well today, and she was, in all honesty, quite proud of herself.
Hearing footsteps, she turned around in her seat. "Isn't it nice out tonight?" She asked.
"To answer your question."
"Yes this is blood, no it is not mine, and now that, that is cleared up. Would you pass me the handkerchief?"
"A-are you sure you don't need a nurse?"
"But just this once it would be good to listen to my advice. Stubbornness will get you nowhere."
"O-okay."
"No you haven’t," he sighed softly, "Just get some sleep, you’ll regret it if you don’t."
"I th-thought shadowhunters are supposed to be their own c-commanders."
"… No. You just have to wear black on missions… You seriously didn’t know this?"
"I guess I just never thought about it."
Remind me again to never to go London.
I bet you all thought I was dead, I should have been. Talk about luck..
"Are y-you alright?"
Just went shopping. Just because I’m a shadowhunter doesn’t mean all I have to wear is black.
"We-we don't?"
"I just want to make sure that you actually get some rest before doing anything else, humour me please," he said to her, raising his eyebrows at her,
"D-d-did I do something to up-upset you in the past ten s-seconds or so? Why are you a-acting so angry?"
"Sleep and I’ll leave," he said stubbornly, crossing his arms at her. "Until then your going to have to put my with my presence."
"I'm not 'putting up' w-w-with anything. I'm j-just saying you don't have to stay just be-because you f-feel like you h-have to since you're s-so sure I'm going to g-get myself killed between n-now and dawn."
