The Doctor Who news just got me 5am thinking about how it probably sucks to be a kid right now, TVwise, and that it's no wonder they're all watching cocomelon or whatever instead. You're tryna watch your cool sci-fi show about scary monsters and aliens, and then the season ends on 'WHAHEW. The Doctor regenerated into SOME LADY, aren't you EXCITED!?' and you don't have a clue who Rose Tyler is because you're like, 7. Idk, Sarah Jane's return was a massive thing, but the show had the grace to remember that a chunk of the fanbase simply wasn't born when she was last on, and bothered explaining who she was and why we should care, and made an actually story about that. Why was a kid who wasn't born when Rose was last on meant to care about this?
S'like, Gen-Xers reminiscing about Star Wars was a biiig thing when I was growing up, but it'd be in the form of characters with their own stories you were invested in liking it, or random parodies in shows that were still ... shows? You could still enjoy without knowing or caring about Star Wars. Kids now are growing up with adults reminiscing about Star Wars being the only thing available to watch, the poor little bastards.
