I can't wait for Seven Havens to have an antagonist with a similar tragic backstory and motivation as a protagonist but who lashes out on others due to their similar pain, who the story then uses as a mirror to the protagonist to show that the protagonist has to work at being a hero/strong person and it's not just inevitable, but which the fandom will inevitably misunderstand as the writers either villainizing the character's sad backstory or excusing villainous actions with a sad backstory

the avatar fandom really is too dumb to understand the depth of aang’s trauma as a genocide survivor when youve got people saying his arc in the movie was unnecessary or that he shouldve moved on from the loss of his entire culture by now. thats something that would haunt the average person for the rest of their life, so people are either too dumb to understand that, or theyre too heartless to have empathy for aang’s loss. or both.

So I was screencapping of a bunch of wide environment shots in Avatar Aang when I got to a particular explosion scene, and I decided to go through it frame by frame. At which point my jaw hit the floor because holy colored pencils, Batman! 🤯

I've clicked through these images a dozen times today and I'm still like ARE YOU SHITTING ME?? SO. FUCKING. COOL. The expanding condensation ring is an awesome touch.

not people going to my posts comparing atla to anime (which the creators openly source as their biggest inspiration, literally calling their whole work "a love letter to Japanese anime") to tell me shonen anime is uhm, ACHTUALLY stupid because they have colored hair and yell while fighting

and then blocking me when I say that's literally like atla asdfjkldaf. anime literally just means animation made in japan, and contains MILLIONS of works with quite diverse storytelling. shonen just means for young boys, which is also the target audience of atla.

I'm not saying all anime is inherently incredible, showstopping, never the same, but why do y'all have such a superiority complex about anime. actually more accurately: why do you base your enjoyment of atla on a superiority complex towards anime, it's quite strange tbh.

I've been needing a holiday, so I was looking for something fun to do right in my art comfort zone

That and looking back at the Avatar novels... well, what's more in my comfort zone than a bunch of busts?

I absolutely adore designing big sprawling families and figuring out the resemblances. The Avatar style is one of the biggest inspirations for my art style so it's fun trying to turn it back around

atla purists who think atla is a masterclass of writing and totally above the shonen anime it openly ripped off of: ugh, the aatla movie had a bland, predictable, formulaic plotline, it's just like anime (derogatory).

like you don't think atla as a fantasy YA show did? because "reluctant hero boy who lost everything, but has magic powers and cute pet companions. his mentors tell him he has to defeat the dark evil nation's upper lord. which he accomplishes through the power of friendships and the super powers he gained through his world travels. there's magic element nations color-coded like hogwarts houses!" was genuinely so totally unique and non-predictable? as if atla even managed to pull off this plot in a coherent way, it had the most basic plots and only landed the endgame with 999 glaring examples of bad writing anyway.
