Foreteller Ava: The Accidental Traitor
Disclaimer: While I love the theory that a Union Leader is the true traitor, and obviously we all know the Nightmare Chirithy that incited all of this is unrelated to the traitor, there is actual canonical evidence to back up this idea. There is still a traitor that came before the Keyblade War as per the Book of Prophecies, and that is the idea I’m discussing today.
“What do you mean Ava is the traitor look at her she’s a cute cinnamon roll who wouldn’t hurt anybody and put so much effort into stopping the Keyblade War. She even followed her role the Master of Masters gave her and formed the Dandelions.” Yes exactly. And that’s why she’s the “traitor.”
Because you’re right, everything we have about her says she would never betray the other Foretellers. She was loyal, she cared about all four of them, and followed the Master of Master’s teachings to a tee. To the point of us having the line from Gula in Backcover about Ava “always walking the straight and narrow” and that questioning the MoM causes her actual distress. She follows her role and forms the Dandelions and picks every Union Leader out to the specifications of the MoM. Everything she does, she does with being in mind doing everything she can to do the right thing.
And yet there is one action that negates all of this, and it’s one that she never would’ve intended.
In the finale of Kingdom Hearts X, the Player and Skuld look for Gula to learn what happened to Ava, since he and Ava are very close. Gula doesn’t know, but tells them about a passage from the start of the Keyblade War. The quote reads:
Unable to permit disharmony, you will be disappointed by fate, and lose sight of true strength…
Misreading the truth, you will venture forth in secrecy…
And then with that one strike, a bell will toll for the final battle, and the battle will begin at last, and the time shall be chosen…
The quote directly talks about the scene that plays alongside it in KHX, the one in which Ava strikes Luxu. Ava, determined to figure out any means necessary to prevent the Keyblade War, finds and confronts Luxu, who confirms it is inevitable. Believing him to be the traitor due to his actions, Ava misunderstands what is really happening, striking Luxu and bringing about the Keyblade War.
Matching word for word this paragraph descriptor of the traitor.
The traitor we’ve all be left guessing over in KHUx and Backcover is Ava. She is the traitor mentioned on the lost page that Gula was sent to find.
And she didn’t do it with malice or hate or any attempt at betrayal. Just a desperate desire to save everybody and reunite her friends once more.
