email, you want to send it within a few hours at max after the interview if you can so it’s fresh in their mind who you are.

Confirmed! I interviewed for a job right after arriving in NY. The interview went incredibly well, and I went home and immediately wrote a thank you letter and put it in the mail. I had a super good feeling about this interview.

I didn’t get the job.

However, a few weeks later, I was called in to interview with another editor in the same company, and I did get that job. I found out later from the initial editor (the one who didn’t hire me) that he had planned to offer me the job, but since I didn’t follow up with a thank you letter, he assumed I didn’t really want it. He offered the job to another contender–but when he got my letter in the mail shortly after the offer had already been made, he went to HR and gave me a glowing recommendation. It was based on that recommendation that I got called in for the second interview.

So: send an email thank you immediately (same day!) after the interview. If you’re feeling extra, go ahead and send a written one too. OR go immediately to a coffee shop, write the letter, and return to the office and give it to the secretary.

Either way, those letters are important.

Pro tip: If you really want HR to develop a personal interest in your application, publicly thank them on linkedin. Just make a short post telling your network about how X recruiter really went above and beyond to make you feel welcome, or about how be accommodating and professional they were, or whatever. Make sure to use the mention feature so they’ll get a notification and see it. 

Flattery will get you everywhere… and public flattery that might make its way back to their manager, doubly so.

The post-interview thank you notes can be a good way to recover in case you got asked a question whose answer you either didn’t know or felt was super weak. So if you follow the above given template, jump in with something like “upon further thought to your question, here’s my revised answer.” 

But yeah always send a thank you note after an interview. It’s a small thing but it makes a hell of a difference. And def send thank you messages to any recruiters who may have helped. And also after you get the job. Small things like that really go a long long way.

your recent post about c!tommy and how he views strength and lies to himself and puts on an overly-masculine persona (courtesy of cc!tommy’s actual persona and acting style bleeding into his character) in an effort to not seem weak and vulnerable is making my brain go a thousand miles per minute cause like. doesn’t c!tommy actually respect peace and talking things out and generally being “weaker” (in comparison to what he is projecting as “strong”) in response to conflict? i.e, him really valuing c!wilbur’s “talk first” ideology, calling c!ranboo a “strong fighter” for sticking by his side and being his friend, “some people aren’t strong enough to keep talking.”

it’s like he’s only highly critical about himself — he’s not allowed to be “soft” or vulnerable or “weak” or basically just himself. he’s been burned so many times for it — pogtopia, being exiled, c!dream — he thinks, when have i ever gotten positive feedback from being myself? when has my love alone saved anyone? his persona becomes his armor.

but if it comes to others? he doesn’t particularly love it if you’re physically strong or try to act super masculine and tough. he used to look up to c!techno and c!dream for it, but as he became more disillusioned and his heroes fell from grace, he saw what an excess of power/that type of strength could actually do and he wasn’t too fond of it anymore (also, there’s the fact that he respects/cares a lot about c!wilbur and c!tubbo, two people who are not conventionally “strong”). now, there’s just fear. he also needs people to be straight with him. over time, he’s come to hate it when people lie to him or put on acts and wants to be on equal footing (i.e getting uncomfy when he’s in iron and other people are in full netherite). he gets uncomfortable when people have too much power — he doesn’t see that as an inherent virtue. he doesn’t even want power. at his core, tommy does not see conventional ideas of strength and power as something to be admired or sought after. he does not see the ideas that his persona projects as the “ideal.” he's actually a little disconcerted by them.

it’s like he’s just mimicking what he thinks will protect him, what the “powerful” people on the server seem to do — being loud and larger-than-life and talking back and putting on this facade of someone who is unshakable and a Big Man and who’s never felt weakness and is Strong and Powerful in every way.

but on c!tommy it’s so painfully a mask and metaphorical armor because we know him. we know he isn’t like the people he pretends to be. we know that, at his core, he values loyalty. kindness. communication. peace. family. love. friendship. all conventionally “soft” ideas.

just. holy fucking shit. tommy’s relationship with strength and weakness is so cool now that i think about it. it’s so warped because of all the shit he’s been through, but the foundations of his fractured beliefs are still intact. ty for making me think about this.

This is a summary of college only using two pictures; expensive as hell.

That’s my Sociology “book”. In fact what it is is a piece of paper with codes written on it to allow me to access an electronic version of a book. I was told by my professor that I could not buy any other paperback version, or use another code, so I was left with no option other than buying a piece of paper for over $200. Best part about all this is my professor wrote the books; there’s something hilariously sadistic about that. So I pretty much doled out $200 for a current edition of an online textbook that is no different than an older, paperback edition of the same book for $5; yeah, I checked. My mistake for listening to my professor.

Tubbo sees ghostbur as an extension of wilbur which makes it so much more upsetting when wilbur denies their connection because ghostbur proves that wilbur does care and can care. When wilbur says no, that wasn’t me, that was a caricature at best of me, then it disregards the connection his loved ones had with ghostbur and it puts the responsibility back on wilbur to change. he has an opportunity to say look, ghostbur helped rebuild l’manberg, that proves that I would’ve too, but he is so obsessed with controlling how people view him that he can’t let the part of himself that he doesn’t like be more rehabilitated than his core self. its like

YES YES EXACTLY its like. ghostbur showed that wilbur cared but even if there were parts he genuinely couldnt control him asserting over and over that he and alivebur are not the same made it hard for some (like fundy) to connect with him bc he wouldnt take responsibility for aliveburs bad actions, while revivedbur refuses to see them as anything but completely different people because he doesnt want to accept that he wasnt in control and couldnt have done more in many many situations (such as exile)

wilbur wants to change so badly to the point where he refuses to believe ghostbur was much more than a mimicry because he doesnt think ghostbur was enough and he wants to be more than enough. hes so convinced hes a bad person he doesnt want to accept that people like tubbo and tommy found comfort in ghostbur because ghostbur showed that wilbur was a caring if naïve person at his core, doesnt want to believe that the version of him he couldnt control changed how people viewed any other version of him :(

and on one end of course its understandable that they dont want to take responsibility or credit for each others actions, ghostbur because he wants to be a good person and revivedbur because he believes hes a bad person. they want to change, but wilburs inherent black-and-white “good guy vs bad guy” “that was/wasnt me” mentality makes it hard for him to accept that in the end hes just. wilbur. and he would have done good and bad things (and things that cant be labeled as either) regardless of what his “role” was or how many things he did, and will continue to do good and bad things (and things that are both and neither) regardless of his “role” and how many things he does

even if ghostbur and alive/revivedbur are different people and they cant be completely judged based off of each others actions, they both do things that show off how wilbur is in his entirety and the sooner wilbur can accept that its all him, whether he likes it or not, whether he can control it or not, the sooner he can actually start changing
