WHO did this in the trivia section of the wiki??????????? 😂😂😂
Do you ever think about what Drea and Saanvi were like in high school? Because I really, really do.
I dooo!
I definitely see Saanvi being studious and focused on her goals even at a young age to the detriment of every other aspect of her life like she’s shown to be with her work in canon. She probably skipped a few grades, went to college early and didn’t have the full high school experience, but doesn’t feel like she missed anything. All of the awkward nerds in her class had crushes on her, but it went over her head because she had shit to accomplish. The duality of brilliance and loneliness is so Saanvi as a character I can only imagine it being prevalent early in her life.
On the other hand, Drea the rich horse girl did live like something out of a teen show. Her energy and approach to befriending Michaela gave people-pleasing sidekick to the most popular girl in school. She probably felt most herself when she was upstate visiting her horse and let her friend group peer pressure her into hosting sick parties at her five-story penthouse with three terraces and a rooftop Japanese garden in Tribeca. Unlike her teen self, Drea didn’t let Michaela’s behavior slide and called her out, which led to more genuine friendship and growth.
How bout u, anon?
Thank you for answering! I've been thinking about this a bunch lately and I knew you'd have good thoughts <3
Fully agree with your reads on both. I think Saanvi was so single-minded and nerdy that even her Indian parents were like "hey... do you wanna take a break sometime... do you wanna see some friends maybe" and she was like "hahaha no I'm fine!!" (Spoiler alert: she's not fine.) I think that, for Saanvi, her throwing herself so heavily into her work (or studies for her high school era) comes both from genuine passion and a need to prove herself. Like she has to be the best, she has to make herself useful. In my eyes, Saanvi doesn't have the greatest amount of self-worth, so she goes after good grades as a sort of confidence or dopamine boost. It's not all sad though, she also just likes the idea of mastering a certain discipline and is really fucking into cells and shit. I also think that Saanvi has a few embarrassing phases she keeps hidden hahaha.
Dude I just accidentally deleted my entire paragraph on Drea I'm so pissed. ANYWAY I think that Drea is popular girl central, but is that way because she's a genuinely nice and charming person. She has a knack for getting along with everyone and making people feel included, and she has a few random friendships outside of her popular circle because of it (like Saanvi!). I think she cares more about studying than she lets on, and also secretly worries a lot about what people think of her. However, I think she grows out of being so self-conscious with age, and gradually turns into the confident badass we know and love her to be today :)
This part's a bit more self-indulgent, but I think that Saanvi slowly realises that she likes girls and is just like "I am not going to address this until I absolutely have to, I have bigger things to worry about". Literally like "I'm probably gay but I have a job so idrc about that right now". On the other hand, I think Drea suddenly realises that she likes girls and instantly rolls with it like cool, now I can make out with girls at house parties! (And she does while Saanvi continues being a recluse until someone drags it out of her during university.)
I bet Saanvi and Drea would be friends or at least friendly with each other during high school. The sort of friendship that seems unlikely but once you peel back the surface, they just fall into place quite well and get to express different sides of themselves that aren't unlocked around other people. Drea 100% helps Saanvi to loosen up and joke around a little more, and Saanvi helps Drea realise she doesn't need to try so hard to impress people (despite the fact that she's a complete fucking hypocrite with that) or always be the fun one if she's not up to it that day.
Extra: this is fully a sleep-induced idea but if you or anyone else happens to know green yuri (The Guy She Was Interested In blah blah blah), Saanvi made one canonical reference to Rage Against The Machine and I went fucking ballistic thinking about her music taste. I think that she listened to a lot of punk and riot grrrl in high school, despite the fact that this girl is very much so NOT rioting about anything in person. I think that Drea likes the same genres (as well as many others) and that's how I got onto a green yuri AU I entertain myself with before falling asleep sometimes!
(This is the anon by the way, I didn't realise I toggled anonymous!)

The editing of this video is hysterical and genius- they switch between so many editing styles to reflect exactly what kind of thing they're going for in each segment its GREAT.

Once you start noticing the passive voice being used for men's actions, you can't unsee it. In history class it was always "women weren't seen as equal human beings" or "women weren't able to own property or have jobs or get education" rather than men legally considered women their property and banned them from work, school, and property rights.
In the news it's always "girl raped in park" or "woman killed in home" which would make some sense if the perpetrator was unknown, but they often have already caught the culprit by the time the article comes out and it's always a man.
The amount of times I've seen a headline about a man murdering his entire family before killing himself being titled "man commits suicide after family is killed" with a nice little family photo of them is absolutely absurd.
Hell, just last night I saw an article titled, "3 kids killed after mom let ex-partner take them to get food." Her male ex took the kids to get food and murdered them before killing himself. Not only is the headline passive, but it also phrases it in a way that makes the mother somehow look guilty like she knew what he had planned or knew he was insane.
To top it off, people get really uncomfortable if you stop using the passive voice for this stuff. They start squirming if you straight up say "men wrote laws banning women from voting" even when that is literally what happened. BOTH men and women act this way. It's like we're all just supposed to pretend that rape, enslavement, murder, and other human rights violations against women just fell from the sky.
Male writers writing female characters:
“Cassandra woke up to the rays of the sun streaming through the slats on her blinds, cascading over her naked chest. She stretched, her breasts lifting with her arms as she greeted the sun. She rolled out of bed and put on a shirt, her nipples prominently showing through the thin fabric. She breasted boobily to the stairs, and titted downwards.”
‘ She breasted boobily to the stairs, and titted downwards’ is the greatest fucking sentence I have ever read.
