My hot take is I think the indefinite cancelation of Doctor Who is the best thing that could have happened for the show. Especially in recent years, its become less grounded in moving storytelling and more invested in capitalizing on nostalgia. If you compare the 50th special and 60th specials, this because undeniable. Both segments were attempting to capitalize on nostalgia, but where the 50th felt like a love letter to the fans, the 60th felt like RTD taking a victory lap. I've rewatched the show many time over the past 12 years and I can confidently say that I don't return to episodes that came out 2016 and on. I was excited for a female Doctor and thought Ncuti would fill in the role perfectly after Jodie, but the writing from both Chibnal and Davis never quite stayed with me the same as even some classic who or big finish productions. I think its time for a completely new writing team and a moment to breath. I would be looking for a team that knows what Sci-fi fans want and can develop an emotionally compelling story. I understand that many connected with Jodie and the RTD2 era for various reasons, and my intention is not to diminish that. I am just looking for something different at this point.
