thinking SO heavily about the fact that today on his live, daryl said he believes in the greaser brothers where dallas, two-bit, and johnny are the respective equivalents to darry, soda, and pony.

Costume: Pleated dress with light pink & white houndstooth print, two pink enamel flower-shaped buttons, & white hem/belt, white cardigan with white floral embellishments, pink headband.

*Note: I don’t know about Maggie’s, but Emma, SarahGrace & Melody’s cardigans seem to be slightly different in terms of their embroidery

Makeup: pink eyeshadow

Shoes: White knee socks with white shoes (First two photos are of Emma’s, next two are of Melody’s)

Ponyboy Curtis but he spends hours worrying about his schoolwork, some night choosing to miss out on what the gang is doing just so he can figure out what his math teacher wants him to do.

Ponyboy Curtis but he refuses to talk to a Tutor because he was always told he was smart, and If he needs a Tutor then he must not be smart anymore.

Ponyboy Curtis but he has bad eyesight, and would rather go without his glasses then give people another thing to make fun of him for.

Ponyboy Curtis but when he struggles with math, he gets frustrated and tears up, because he's supposed to be the smart one. He's supposed to know how to do this.

Ponyboy Curtis but he overworks himself so Darry doesn't yell at him for his Grades anymore.

Ponyboy Curtis but he mentally shrinks whenever Darry lectures him, and is always prepared for another lecture.

Ponyboy Curtis but he freezes at the mere thought of losing another person he loves.

“No,” Cherry said slowly… “not innocent. You’ve seen too much to be innocent. Just not… dirty.” I love this quote from Cherry because it really summarizes Pony and Johnny in a way I feel the fandom sometimes struggles with. She's directly saying that yes, they've seen shit. They aren't innocent or sugary sweet, and she can tell just by looking at them that they are hardened in some way that has made a visible impact on them. But also, their pain doesn't cover them like dirt - it isn't drying on their skin and staining their clothes and drawing everyone's eye. It isn't a permanent, skin-deep pain that has hardened their exterior and tainted their interior.

Of course, it's just a summarization of what she sees. A general statement. There's nuance lost in it, the way nuance is lost in most summaries. Still, it accurately reflects Johnny and Pony's characters. While the fandom often looks at Pony and Johnny and sees characters who are soft, anxious, twitchy, shy, and helpless, Cherry sees them for who they are. They aren't soft, they just don't see a point in needless violence. They're not anxious and twitchy, they're on guard and tense. They aren't quiet because they're shy, they're quiet because they're thoughtful. Introspective. Observant. They aren't helpless, they're just constantly faced against people and environmental/physical factors that anyone would struggle against, and they still manage to power through.

It also feels important to note that S.E Hinton does this everywhere - adding in 'small' details and quotes that actually really add to either the characters, foreshadowing, main themes and ideas, or plot.
