Hello everyone! As some of you may know, throughout this academic year - year 10 for myself I haven taken enrichment classes in GCSE psychology; 1 lesson a week which started around 8 weeks in to the academic year. I am super proud to say I managed to get an A in this subject! Obviously I would have preferred to get an A*; and honestly I am not surprised to get an A instead - in fact I am relieved! I only knew I was taking an exam in this a couple of months before I was due to sit it, and with only about 105 minutes contact with my teacher too - it's honestly down to hard work which got me my grade today! I would like to mention, not as an excuse but as justification that Psychology generally requires a lot of memorisation - around 40 case studies - plus keywords and terms which was so difficult to learn in such a short amount of time. On top of this, the grades in my class were 1xG, 2xD, 1xE, 2xC, and 1xA!! Please don't be ashamed of your results guys, especially if, like me, you have done an exam in a very short amount of time you have all don't amazingly and you should all be so proud.

I got home from holiday last night and today the cats have been very needy which has led to a lot of cat cuddles. Jake (pictured) has inhabited my bed for the day.

First year med school
Ok so this will be a post about what med school is actually like, and how you can prepare for it and what to expect, and general tips! Hope at least someone finds it useful.
FIrstly, the general stuff:
1. First year is for fun! Donât be one of those people who just works all the time - you need to go out and meet people, make friends! And the people on your course youâll be with for at least 5 years, so make a good first impression! Donât be fooled into the stereotype that âmed students donât have time to have a social lifeâ um yes we do. So donât panic.Â
2. But donât go TOO crazy. I probably didnât work hard enough especially in my first term. All med schools do exams differently in first year, but make sure you do some work for them, even if they donât count for much.
3. You will be overwhelmed at times, and thatâs ok. Especially if your med school is integrated, you may be faced with upsetting patients at just 18 years old, as I was. Itâs ok if you donât deal with it well at first - itâs part of the learning process. Remember that everyone else is finding it tough too.
4. Make sure you donât become one of âthoseâ medics. You know who I mean. Itâs fine to be proud to be a medical student, but that doesnât mean youâre better than other courses. And when youâre on placement, remember that the nurses, porters, etc, are just as important as the doctors.Â
5. Be outgoing - especially on placement, it is what you make of it. Meaning, youâll learn a lot more if you go out of your way to see patients and go on the wards. Ask questions, ask the doctors (if theyâre not too busy) if they could watch you do a history or examination, ask them if thereâs any bloods that need doing, etc. Youâll learn a lot more that way! AND DONâT SKIP ANYTHING EVEN IF ITâS SOMETHING YOU HATE BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU MIGHT LEARN!
Ok, so now more work-related things!
6. There is a LOT of work. You will have to learn far more information in small amounts of time than you have ever done before, and the way to get around this is BE ORGANISED. Even if youâre having fun in your first term, make sure you still go to lectures, make sure you cover at least the bare minimum. Buy notebooks, folders for different subjects. An important thing is to know WHAT you need to know. Your uni should have some sort of learning outcomes or specification (hopefully). Keep a note of that and tick things off.
7. MAKE NOTES AS YOU GO ALONG. YOU WILL THANK YOURSELF LATER WHEN YOU HAVE YEARS OF MATERIAL TO REVISE! It doesnât matter how pretty they are, just try to keep them organised and with the key material you need to know.
8. DONâT IGNORE ANATOMY. Ok yeah itâs long and itâs boring, but try and keep up with it or youâll find it harder to understand the diseases.
9. In practical exams itâs all about how you present yourself. Be confident, smile (but not when the actor/patient is telling you theyâre terminally ill) and act like you know it, even if youâre not sure. And practise makes perfect! Practise with your friends and help each other perfect your technique.
10. And also, especially for British students, Iâd recommend getting the Oxford Clinical handbook because itâs such a dinky little book with pretty much the basics of everything you need to know. I always have it in my handbag! (When Iâm at placement and stuff. Not on a night out, that would be weird.)
If anyone else has questions about this, let me know and Iâll answer and update this! Love you all and good luck xxx

26 Reminders for Going to School Like a Badass
1. Your attitude dictates your experience, so start finding things to get psyched about.
2. Stock up on healthy snacks in your house!!! Youâll be glad you did when the study-munchies roll around (and they always do).
3. Invest in a good planner. Especially if you take part in multiple extra-curriculars, I canât stress how helpful it is having a place to check back on deadlines and big events.
4. Write down all your teachersâ names and emails as soon as you get them, so youâre not searching for them when youâre absent.
5. No one is having as much fun as their snapchat story makes it seem.
6. Donât believe what your peers tell you about tests they take before you, study how much YOU need to.
7. Be nice to your math teacher. Partial credit on math problems might save your grade.
8. Donât throw out syllabuses/first day handouts!!!! Theres a good chance they have information on the late policy and a gazillion other helpful things.
9. In fact, try to hold on to as many papers as you can for when finals inevitably attack.
10. No one knows you wore those jeans yesterday.
11. Be conscious of how you smell. Donât be B.O. kid, but also try not to suffocate your lab partner with the scent of artificial fruit/flowers.
12. That cookie in the cafeteria is probably not worth 95 cents. Pack snacks from home to resist overpriced school treats.
13. If youâre carrying around a travel mug of coffee, people will usually leave you alone.Â
14. Donât spend more time planning your study schedule than actually studying. Just get your books out and do it.
15. Never underestimate the amount of motivation you can get from watching Legally Blonde (movie or musical).Â
16. Try to attend at least one school sporting event per season, even if thats not really your scene. Some teachers even offer extra credit for going to big games!
17. Donât be that kid that asks the teacher when youâre getting your tests back. They have like a gazillion to grade. Youâll get them when theyâre done.
18. Have a pump-up playlist for the ride to school and the walk to your first class. Nothing feels more badass than walking through crowded hallways while listening to Halseyâs âNew Americanaâ.
19. Set up a back-up study zone for when you need a change of pace.
20. Donât put off creative projects because you think theyâll be less time consuming. Thereâs nothing worse than glitter gluing a scale model of the U.S. Senate at 3 AM because you thought it would be quick and easy.
21. That extra 10 minutes of sleep is not worth the risk of oversleeping completely. Get up, splash your face with some cold water, and get this show on the road.
22. Find a school inspiration, whether it be a really hardworking friend or a studyblr you follow. Check their progress whenever you need motivation.
23. If someone only ever talks to you when they need to copy the homework, theyâre using. Donât indulge them.
24. Doing your own work is so SO important. Plagiarism can destroy careers.
25. Creative outlets can be so refreshing, like a diary, a private tumblr, a sketchbook, whatever floats your boat.
26. When all else fails, remember how lucky you are to be getting an education. School isnât a punishment, its an opportunity for you to create a kick-ass foundation for the rest of your life.Â
This is the tumblr group hug. Pass it on.
