‘Jurassic Bloom’ by Nicolas Côme
switch your mentality from “i’m broken and helpless” to “i’m growing and healing” and watch how fast your life changes, for the better.

To grow, we need to continue moving forward with deliberate direction, but to flourish, we may need to stop, take our time, and go off course.

If I speak of it, it becomes real, and when it’s real, it becomes something I can lose. Forgive me if keeping my lips sealed is something I choose. For once, I can’t say that I have a plan for where this is headed. To let life have free reign is better than a plan that needs edits.
The Curse of Limbo: Age
When I was 1, my mother and father got into their first argument. When I was two, my first baby brother was born– he looks just like mother. Still does. When I was 3, my last baby brother was born– he acts so strange and he’s the luckiest one too. He almost died twice, but an angel is always there to save him. When I was 4, my father moved out and my mother was finally free from his tyranny. When I was 5, my grandmother smiled because she caught me in my first lie. When I was 6, my grandfather passed away– I cried for a whole week… or maybe for the whole day… time is an illusion, yeah? When I was 7, I burned my grandmother’s kitchen down. She covered for me. When I was 8, I made a best friend at school. The next day he was another kid’s best friend, so I cried about it. When I was 9, my grandmother from Vietnam passed away. My mom cried that whole month. Time is still an illusion. When I was 10, my mother still hit us. When I was 11, I questioned my existence. Why am I here? When I was 12, I told her to stop hitting us. She called the cops on me. They said I didn’t do anything wrong. Case closed. When I was 13, I got my first heartbreak. When I was 14, I smoked my first blunt. When I was 15, I popped my first pill. When I was 16, I was single for a whole year. When I was 17, I met a smile with poetry written all over it. When I was 18, she broke my heart. When I was 19, I started to smoke a lot more. When I was 20, I was so damn lost. When I was 21, all we did was fuck. When I was 22, she said that this was enough. When I was 23, I dropped the razor. I’m 24 now. I wonder about 25. I chase after 26. I’m in love with 27. It gets better.

Now realizing that whenever I write a single piece, it never has to be about one person, one topic, one event. It can be inspired by multiple stories, with the same sentimental denominator. In my past 15 years of amateur writing, I made my own box to stay within, when I thought I was being creative. But I guess I needed that break of focusing on other things than my inner turmoil. And now, I barely write about that anymore.
It’s easy to forget the human inside the body when the body is stained with the oils of yesterday’s touch. But I will dip you in paint, and show you the masterpiece that all your years have helped you become.
It’s like a breath of fresh air when somehow you are surrounded by those that remind you what is important in life and help realign your focus in that direction. It’s like breathing with new lungs when they have created a concept to reinvigorate lost inspiration. It is ridiculous to imagine, that my whole life, every step I took and every decision I made with each and every consequence lead me to this night, this conversation, these people. What am I doing to deserve this? And whatever it is I am doing, I hope I never stop.
Why do you do what you do?

You have been like family to me for nearly almost a decade--you alone have made my soul smile on countless occasions. We had enough shared passions to bind us tightly yet enough quirks that set us apart. I trusted you with my deepest, darkest thoughts, and you helped me through the toughest, most painful decisions. I showed you a path and asked you to join me on it, you conceded as long as you could keep your own goals. And of course, I want to see you grow, and you did, so much I cannot measure it from where you once were. I guess you can say I’m taking partial credit in fueling your fire. You became my partner in crime, sharing guilt with me as we came across it. Thinking back, I am unsure if I ever told you that you had also become my best friend. I am not one to attach titles. I regret that now, in a way.
But does time equal closeness in your mind? Surely you’d agree that a bond can still be maintained no matter how infrequent we are able to spend time in the same room, doing nothing new. But maybe that is where I’m wrong, and that is when you decided to fill the void that I did not know I left, with habits I absolutely cannot commend you for. What happened to growth? What happened to integrity? What happened to you? Now that space is transferred to me, and I look to my side and wonder what does one do when they are alone? I ended up seeking shelter in an unfamiliar place with faces I am only just merely acquainted with. I am excited for change but still question your direction every time I close my eyes.
I can still learn from you, turning strangers into family and a challenge into a victory. I write this wondering, now that you have taken your own course, will our paths cross again?
*pokes bruise* where did you come from?
me as hell
