Magnetic Fields 2014 - A hyperlapse short.
Had some fun with the hyperlapse app at the beautiful Magnetic Fields festival this year. Nothing fancy, just checking out how much you can do shooting with just iPhones!

Subterra Preview//Dualism Records
Subterra is the first compilation of Indian independent electronic music from Dualism Records. I was given the opportunity to create a teaser video for the same with excerpts from each track. Due to the lack of time, I couldn't work with Cinema 4D (apart from one excerpt, I'll give you a cookie if you can guess which one!) so I went back to yesteryear favourite, Trapcode Suite. So much can be done with Particular and Soundkeys, it was good fun and great to rediscover After Effects and Trapcode.

Your Chin - Run Along Little One Directed by: Misha Ghose, DoP: Naman Saraiya and Misha Ghose, Edit & GFX: Sourya Sen
Done over a couple of weekends, this marks the release of Your Chin's new EP, Scatter Nature (buy here).
Misha Ghose, director of the video has this to say,
"The idea was to let people sing along to a Your Chin song - and for once sing the right lyrics. We took two cameras, ate some dosas and pessarettu from Madras café and walked around the lanes of Dadar and shot everything that looked neat and interesting. Then we gave the footage to Sourya who put it together beautifully. It was a day well spent. The pessarettu was really good."
Welcome her to #WeekendProjects and if you're reading this, ask her why I didn't get any pessarettu.
#WeekendProjects has always been an idea - an idea to portray videos that are made with the love of creation, for the sake of creativity. For the first time since its inception, here's a video from someone new, say hi to Tanvi Gandhi and sit back and relax as you watch the video she made from footage while on holiday in Spain. Some sweet glitchy effects here with some music that'll make you want to quit your job and go backpacking.
Here's what she has to say about the video,
"I've always wanted to travel alone and I'm glad I finally gathered up the courage to do it. I met the nicest people in the nicest weather under the clearest blue skies (I'm not being poetic the sky in spain is REALLY blue). I also ate the nicest food (Especially at the restaurant called Katalina in Seville do go there if you happen to be visit Seville). Spain was everything I thought it would be and much more. I'm not a writer, so anything I write will sound cliched. Let the video speak for itself!"

Mister E (Live) - Nischay Parekh w/ Jivraj Singh
A lot of people have been asking when a new Weekend Project will be out. Well, here it is. It has taken a while as work from other areas have totally overpowered me, this being the festival season and all, but, working over a few months, this video might be my favorite one in a while.
Shot in May, interspersed with footage from over the country (all thanks to Naman), this video hopefully goes away from the live video space (which we’ve done before) and becomes something that’s a little more.
Serial collaborator Naman Saraiya has this to add, “The idea behind shooting this was mostly just to keep the idea of the Your Chin video vibe going, with one camera and nothing else. However, after sitting on it for a long time - and with several other unused footage from Calcutta, Goa, Darjeeling, and whatever else you may remember to add here. Plus, at then, the idea of creating a live video with a different twist to it seemed like a good idea.”

Dualist Inquiry - 'Exile' (Live at High Spirits)
Usually, I post all the writeups, but considering this is the third time Naman Saraiya is a collaborator, I thought I'll let him do the honours. So here it goes,
"This was one manic day! Morning production, expressway travel, soundcheck, hotel room, phew, and then show - and I got back to Bombay the same night.
The idea was to create a live video, one which would reveal other elements that go into the making of a gig, however small or big. With a single camera (besides a GoPro Hero 3, of course) and a few lenses I decided to go all out shooting this one, in my individual capacity.
The idea, always, for me has always been about making things look good, but not without reason. Here's hoping we've achieved that. And a big up to Tej and Sahej for letting us do this.
Here's to more.
Over the editor and VFX champion, Sourya."
From a post point of view, I wanted it to look a little different than any other live videos that happen, and thus the blocks and lines. I am getting a little tired with geometry and glitch in videos, so this one might be the last glitchy/geometric one for a while now!

Ya, new #WeekendProject! Finally one where making it took lesser time than actually rendering it!
So, Naman shot some stuff over his family vacation in Darjeeling and then he passed on the footage to me to do something. Edited over a rainy weekend in Bombay, my only wish was taking a break and going to Darjeeling. Incidentally, it happens to be my favourite city in the world. Keventors rooftop and hot chocolate is just too good!
Anyway, hopefully you guys like the video. And, a big heads up to Chris Zabsriskie for sharing his music on a Creative Commons license!
My fascination with organic forms continue with this video as I try to take the metaball test render into a proper composite. And, let's be honest. This took almost a week to render (that too on a super high end machine, thanks Vijesh!) so I don't know how soon is the complete thing coming, but I'm quite proud of what I've achieved here. Song credits to Suyasha of Ganesh Talkies, where this happens to be her side project, Plastic Parvati.
This one's personal, even though it's just a test render. This one took two weeks of tests, tutorials and trials to achieve. The ambition? To reach some degree of organic movement as seen in Jordi Pagés work - and I'm happy to say that I've achieved something that I previously thought of as impossible to do in Cinema 4D.
Floating sphere thingy in front of mountain. Why? Because I've been trying out Vue and then using Cinema 4D and then going to Photoshop to composite.
Green is the Colour.
Wanted to do a video, but laptop is not powerful enough to do this render. Here's a still of what I was experimenting with. Cinema 4D + sub poligon displacement. And, the physical camera.
Your Chin performing Your Chin at Bomb Thursdays, Kino 108. Shot by Naman Saraiya.
The first #WeekendProject that I did. Though this finally took a week to complete, it turned out quite good.
It also got some press, here and here.
