By the way, out of interest, and as the maniac that I am, I read through the 2026 sporting regulations again regarding the procedures of restarting races after a red flag. And you wanna know what's interesting? There shouldn't have been a second restart
According to the regulations the FIM themselves made, if the restarted race (aka Race 2 as it's referred to) is interrupted having completed less than 3 laps, as was the case in Catalunya, the race results are void and points are awarded according to the positions of Race 1 at the point of the inital red flag (full points for over 50% race distance, half points for less than 50% distance)
A second restart, aka a Race 3 as we had in Barcelona, is only allowed in exceptional circumstances of force majeure and if neither Race 1 nor Race 2 yielded eligable results
However, Race 1 completed more than 3 laps. Meaning that it was eligble for results (I don't remember off the top of my head if it would have been full or half points, but either way, the results were valid according to the regulations). And before anyone asks, no, a crash is not an act of force majeure
We all already knew that from a standpoint of common sense alone this race should have been stopped but it's nice to know that even the regulations are on our side.
Which begs the question, what exactly happens when the FIM themselves break regulations? Do we get to grab our pitchforks and torches and march up to their headquaters? I think we should be allowed to do that
