the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

something you don't learn until you get really far into the making and tinkering life is that there's no such thing as "glue" really. there are so many kinds of substances that stick other substances together and they are all very different and if you just go look at the adhesives aisle in the hardware store the packaging never actually tells you anything useful. it's like "this is SUPER T-REX POWER GLUE" and the fine print says "good for use on wood metal and plastic". okay. but WHICH PLASTICS MY GOOD BITCH,

because SURPRISE, there's no such thing as "plastic" either. every kind of wood is basically the same on a chemical level, but the only thing every plastic has in common is "some of its molecules are long" and that is NOT a quality that determines how things stick together.

I just ordered some stuff I hope will permanently stick a circuit board to a steel sheet and withstand temperatures up to 150 degrees. by the way circuit boards are made of epoxy-bound woven glass cloth which is cool as hell but what the fuck do you glue that with? can any of the 12 kinds of adhesives I currently own do that? no of course not. if I want to stick two pieces of acrylic together so hard they become watertight to a depth of 3000 metres I have some shit that does that, but it does literally nothing else.

anyway. once you start learning how many kinds of sticking things together there are, the people at 3M start to seem like witches and I don't know if they're the kind we can trust with that level of arcane knowledge

It looks like it was designed in 1999 with some ads slapped over the top, because it was designed in 1999…. If anyone was curious, I may be unhinged about sports, but I am enabled by my family. And we're all this kind of weird.

My dad got me into F1 and baseball. My mom got me into football. I got them into hockey (my dad had been a fan years ago but rediscovered his love for it after I got into it on my own).

We all enable and support the others and eventually all get obsessed about our favorites.

#heaven forbid any of us actually decided to take a sport pro #we'd be so obsessive #it'd be terrible #the funny thing is is that we don't set out to be super fans or even fans #we just like the competition and the vibes of certain teams #and we like supporting each other's interests and talking about them #so then you have 3 people getting information and sharing it #and suddenly we know way too much about our dedicated sports #my brother has actually had to learn to get into certain sports to keep up with the convos #he likes sports #but more casually #my mom is the most casual of us 3 but she learns all the names and stresses just as much as we do lol #fun fact from the wild #she learned boldy's number before anyone else's #and will still call him out on the ice before any of us catch him #i find that very funny #idk why #she won't admit boldy's her favorite #but boldy's definitely her favorite lol #anyway #some 3am lore for you

I'd be a lot less upset about us getting knocked out if it didn't feel like the team took their foot off the gas this whole series.

They just kept giving the Avs chances. It was a completely different series than the one against the Stars and that's the frustrating part. They approached this series with a different mentality and could never shake it. The second game I was questioning if we even wanted it, and they just kept making me ask that all series. If they had played with the heart and fire they had in round 1 and lost, I'd be a lot more okay with getting beaten. But the Avs didn't outplay us this series. We played down to them and they capitalized.

The Spurgeon/Middleton line is a liability and it's been that way all playoffs. Spurgeon/Hunt worked. They should've kept that. Ik they don't want Middleton running the 3rd line which is why they bring him up when Bogo is out. But fuck. That 2nd line is clearly not working.
