Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024)
So many people do not understand the relationship between climate change and cold weather.
things i wish i had known when i escaped my family household and couldn't ask my parents for help
invest in a good mattress early on. there are many other ends you can save on - sleep is not one of them. this is key to how much energy you'll have throughout the day
you don't need a bedframe but you do need a slatted bed base (even if it's just pallets)
opening a bank account is easy
there's youtube tutorials for everything. how to install your washing machine, how to use tools, fixing stuff around the place. channels like dad, how do i? are a godsend
change energy provider as soon as your old deal runs out. you'll get better offers elsewhere and avoid price gouging
assemble a basic first aid kid at home: painkillers, probiotics, alcohol wipes, bandages, tweezers, antihistamine tablets - anything you might need in a pinch
and an emergency toolkit: flashlight, extra batteries, a utility knife, an adjustable wrench, multi-tool, duct tape
set your fridge to the lowest temperature it can go. the energy consumption is minimal in difference and it'll give you +4/7 days on most foods
off-brand products are almost always the same in quality and taste, if not better, for half the price
coupons will save you a lot of money in the long run
there's no reason to be shy around employees at the bank/laundromat/store; most people will be happy to help
vegetarian diets are generally cheap if you make food from scratch
breakfast is as important as they say
keep track of your budget in a notebook or excel file - e.g. rent, phone and internet bills, food, leisure so you'll have an overlook on your spending over the months
don't gamble
piracy is okay
stealing from big stores and chains is also ethically okay
keep medical bills and pharmacy receipts for tax returns
also, file your tax returns early
take up a hobby that isn't in front of a screen. pottery, music, going for a run every now and then, stuff that'll keep you busy and sane
and most importantly... you're allowed to get the stuff you want. treat yourself to the occasional mundane thing. a good scented candle. a bath bomb. that body lotion that makes you feel like royalty. the good coffee beans.
you're free and you deserve to be happy.
stealing from big stores and chains is also ethically okay
ethically it's fine but from a practical standpoint be aware that stores like Target track shoplifting and don't bust you right away, they wait until you've stolen enough for them to hit you with felony charges. FYI

This is my tribe. Many of us in our home countries live off selling handmade goods, especially the mochilas. Weaving is an important Wayuú tradition. Every pattern and assortment of colors tells a unique story, and it's important to our cultural identity. And right now with the crises in Venezuela and Colombia, a lot of us are struggling financially. Please always purchase directly from indigenous communities!
you gotta be as gay as possible on the computer otherwise alan turing died for nothing
this comment fucking destroys me. I can’t think about Alan Turing for too long or I start crying.
“if you’re not angry you’re not paying attention” used to be such a powerful phrase but now it’s more accurate to say “if you’re not angry you’re probably exhausted by 5+ years of Panic Outrage Mode and are nearing the limit of your emotional range for reacting to this shit”
The fact that this is pre-covid haunts me
the datestamp is a killer, yeah
These are suggested for serving to recovering alcoholics, but I think they’re just fun and cool anyway? I like a fancy beverage, it doesn’t have to have booze. That cucumber Collins sounds refreshing AF
one of the rare posts where i actually have something cool to contribute.
depending on how much effort you’re willing to put into the process, you can make decently convincing non-alcoholic tequila and here’s how:
you’ll need half of a pineapple with the skin on, 1 liter of water, 40g chopped apricot (remove the pit), 30g agave syrup, 20g roasted unsalted peanuts, 12g whole black peppercorn, 2g kosher salt, 2 whole split and scraped vanilla beans, 50g parsley (leaves & stems), 25g peeled and thinly sliced ginger, 15g mint (also leaves & stems), 9g lime peel, 7g jalepeno (chopped & deseeded), and 4g bay leaves
what you want to do is remove the pineapple bark with a knife and chop it coarsely. save the fruit for something else.
combine the bark, water, apricot, agave syrup, peanuts, peppercorn, salt, and vanilla in a saucepan. bring this to a boil, cover the pot, and reduce the heat to a simmer for around an hour. let it cool and strain out the solids.
take the rest of the ingredients, muddle them to combine them, and let that steep at room temperature for 2 hours. strain out the solids again and put it in an airtight container in your fridge.
there you go. non alcoholic tequila. use it like regular tequila in your sunrise, ranch water, paloma, cantarito, or tequila mule. the people in your life who don’t want to drink for whatever reason and want something a bit more complex than juice will love you for this one.
this is the realest tweet i have ever seen in my life

The thing that messes me up about the whole “the butler did it” trope is that we literally have no idea where it comes from.
The earliest known piece of detective fiction in which the butler, in fact, did it? Published in 1930.
The earliest known article calling out “the butler did it” as an egregious cliché in detective fiction? Published in 1928.
Obviously there must have been earlier examples of detective fiction in which the butler did it, but none of them have survived to the present day, leaving us in this bizarre situation where the earliest known callout post about the trope pre-dates its earliest known actual use by a full two years.
The butler hid the evidence
