"Battle Damage"

I'm forever fascinated by the idea of what injuries might linger on magical girls after the fight is over and they transform back. I know it's implied they have magical healing but also probably a shocking amount of skill with gauze for your average 14 year old.

I decided to explore this idea with Minako since in every canon she goes it alone for a stretch of time without a team to cheer her on or help her nurse her wounds.

Studied some Sailor Moon classic screenshots for color and background inspiration. I always forget how painterly and abstract the night scenes are, it was fun to get into that a little.

I hate how cishets will find a queer story they like and be so dismissive of said queerness. As if it wasn't essential to its story.

I've seen a comment about The Summer Hikaru Died saying :

" The homosexual aspect is there, but it didn't become relevant as the story goes on. It's quite a stressful story after all."

Brother, this manga isn't horror with a side of queer, it's horror BECAUSE it's queer!!! How is it not "relevant"?

How can one take a story about grief, about seeing yourself in the monster, being the outsider, of being the odd one, deemed as dangerous because no one fuckin' gets what you are, what your nature is. And then say, well, the queer aspect is not relevant to the story! What matters is the mystery!

Missing the point so hard you become part of the problem discussed.

Of course the opposite is also annoying. Reducing stories about queer experiences as pointless gay romance, without taking in the other themes is just as insulting.

It's the same, seeing queerness as sex only and nothing else. No shared experiences, no community, no horror or joy. Just one aspect of life to consume or be disgusted by.

Queerness can be an interesting and meaningful part of the plot, of the human experience. It can be essential and in no way removable from the premise. It can, it is, and you should see it for what it is.
