“Do you think,” Connor says, one night when the credits of the movie they just watched have rolled, and all that’s between them is the warm darkness of his apartment, “it’s gonna be weird when we kiss?”
“Hm.” Hudson does not want to disclose how often he’s been thinking about this particular milestone in their three-week-old friendship. Connor’s curls tickle his forehead, his body warm under Hudson’s back. “Maybe a bit. Probably time I told you I’m a virgin.”
Connor snorts a laugh, pinching his arm. Hudson squirms happily under the clench in his bicep behind his neck. He likes the way Connor manhandles him when he wants to make a point: squeezing his sides, slapping his back. Fake-biting his shoulder. Yesterday Hudson had put his hand over his mouth and got a wet bite-kiss in revenge. It had left both of them a bit breathless and once again Hudson would prefer not to focus on how long he spent thinking about it last night.
“Virgins can be little sluts for kissing still.”
“Oh, is that what I am? A little slut? How very insulting of you. I’ll get you cancelled for saying that.”
“I knew you were having second thoughts about me being cast.”
“Yeah, it’s been a total nightmare so far.”
Connor’s hand dangles by Hudson’s face. He reaches for his finger, gently manipulating his fingers to open and close. Every time he touches Connor he’s gently pushing a new boundary. But Connor lets him. He kind of wants to put his fingers in his mouth. The thought sends a shiver down to his belly.
“You didn’t answer,” Connor says again, voice closer to his ear. Hot breath. Like his lips are only an inch from his skin. “Don’t you think it will be weird?”
“Starting to think you think it’ll be weird, Con-Con.”
“And if I do?”
Hudson lifts his head from where it had been resting on his shoulder. Connor’s face is very close. This kind of thing keeps happening. Not sure why, like they’re kinda magnetised to each other, but if Connor doesn’t think it’s worth mentioning Hudson won’t point it out. Until coming to Toronto he’d only ever cuddled on the couch with his girlfriends or maybe his mom when he was a kid. But when Connor’s next to him it’s like he can’t help rolling into him. He realises suddenly it’s been way too long since Connor spoke.
“Well, uh.” The words come out before he can really regret them. “We could, you know. Pull the old middle school routine.” Connor raises his eyebrows like, elaborate? “You know. Wanna do some practise kissing?” He says it with a squeaky adolescent timbre. A huge grin spreads on Connor’s beautiful face. And oh, it’s a problem. Such a problem how hit-me-round-the-head-dizzy Connor makes him. He gets these weird intense crushes on guys sometimes but he’s never had it when they like to get so up close to him before. When there’s the cast-iron prospect of kissing hurtling towards them on the horizon.
“Wow,” Connor says, biting his lip. “Mr Smooth Talker over here. I bet the girls were falling over themselves for you, huh?”
Hudson rolls his eyes. “Okay, no need to be a dick about it. I was just saying.”
He doesn’t see it coming. A quick swoop, eagle pouncing on its prey. A hot mouth pressed roughly against his lips. The tip of a wet tongue. Hudson opens his mouth, letting it in. Melting into it.
“Mm,” Connor says, when they part. Hudson keeps their foreheads knocked together, wanting more. Hands cupping his jaw, pulling him in, and oh, fuck. Connor’s stubble is rough and his tongue thick and insistent. His chin ends up smeared with spit, body twisted, hands pulling him into Connor’s lap. Rehearsing some of the moves they know they’ll have to play. He tightens his hands in Connor’s hair and thinks, Jesus. We get to do this for weeks.
“Huddy,” Connor says against his lips, and Hudson realises he’s pushing him back gently. A soft rose blush to his cheeks. Can’t meet his eyes. And yeah, Hudson can feel why. He shifts back on Connor’s thighs so it’s not so obvious.
“Sorry.” But why’s he sorry? It’s like practising a sales presentation. Perfecting a new recipe in the kitchen. It’s going to be their job. “Wait, um, I’m not sorry, actually. It’s important it’s good. Means it’ll look good on camera. That, uh, is a kind of side effect, right? Won’t happen on set.” Too many eyes and lights and cameras. Except he isn’t quite sure how long they were kissing because his entire brain switched off. But there’s relief in Connor’s eyes. Smile’s back. He squeezes Hudson’s ass, sliding him back into his lap.
“Yeah. Okay.” He bites his lip again. Hudson smoothes a thumb over his cheekbone. Oh, they will definitely need to be doing this once a day. Maybe even twice. To get the rhythm right. “You kiss too good to be Shane, though.”
“I’ll take that backhanded compliment,” Hudson murmurs, touching the tips of their noses together. “Wanna practise some more? It gets me so hot when you give me critical notes after every round.”
“Oh shut up,” Connor says, but he’s laughing, and they’re kissing, and kissing, and kissing, like it’s the only thing in the world, like they’ll drown without it. Though maybe Jacob and Chala don’t need to know too much about it.
"If I could cut this award down the middle, I would, because if these gay yearning little bottom eyes didn't have a big sexy Russian to feast upon, my performance wouldn't be as good. So to the honorary Canadian, Connor Storrie, I share this award with you."
was mulling over the hudcon penalty box interview and found it so strange that hudson seemed to misunderstand/reject so many romantic tropes. he doesn't like PDA, doesn't understand why couples choose to sit next to each other rather than opposite, doesn't know what pet names are???
and it's also funny how he seems to cross all the lines he marked with connor lmao. their PDA goes crazy, they have pet names for each other, they're typically pressed next to each other (or on top of each other) when they sit... it's almost like he actually enjoys doing all of that but never found the right person to do it with.
when was the penalty box interview filmed? i might have some ideas on the timeline here... thoughts?

What I find really… bittersweet about Hudson is that he’s walked back on a lot of things he “doesn’t like,” and I agree entirely with you.
Because for the sake of science, let’s look at his dynamic with the Unperceived - neutral, no PDA, respectful personal space, no overt pet names or cute titles allowed in public (or in public chats with friends?), and a chemistry so quiet it’s led many most to speculate there’s no flame between them. The admission that he didn’t understand the staircase kiss but loved it hurts me, because wdym?? Had he not had a moment of passion like that?
If I can tinhat, I think this points to a huge aspect of not just HC’s strong chemistry, but Hudson’s inability to stop seeking the forbidden fruit. This may be the first time he’s not only been with a partner that’s as physical and forward as Connor is literally the embodiment of carnal desire made human form, this might be the first time he’s really wanted to do all of these things. I believe we are genuinely seeing him losing himself in it, getting drunk and messy on his desire.
I’ll never say that I think Connor was his sexual awakening or anything.. no… but I do think he showed him a love language - a way to love - he’d never fully explored. The radiant, affectionate and clingy Hudson that stands next to Connor is a different person from the reserved, almost muted boyfriend that stands next to K. I think it’s a physical embodiment of the After and his Before.
It’s poetic that Hudson’s life has a clear shift, in so many ways - before HR, and after. Because it’s not just that he met Connor. It’s that they happened to star in a show that made them get comfortable (and quickly!) with physical intimacy. It forced them to learn how each other felt, and showed them (Hudson especially) how electric the languages of touch, and outward, romantic affection could be.
We can joke that Hudson caught feelings on set, because who wouldn’t but I think it was a perfect storm of elements to open his heart to being loved loudly, truly being held in those strong arms he loves, being supported, being worshipped. I don’t know if anyone’s ever looked at him the way Connor does, and I think that kind of love changes somebody. Being loved like that changes you.
