bro literally the choruses are so similar in wording/meaning and the rest of the lyrics a little as well not to mention the song in general sounds kinda like a kuumaa song, at least more than their own discography usually does

Idk, to me the two songs don’t feel at all similar. Like sure, they are both songs about asking another not to leave. But musically, tonally, and particularly in their depiction of this idea, they’re really different. The lyrical similarities you pointed out aren’t super obvious to me, because they are depicting very different ideas with it.

Now, it could also be that they deliberately took inspiration and decided to do the same thing but different. Like they liked the älä mee hook but built a different song around it. I know artists do stuff like that all the time and then get annoyed when fans don’t ever really catch it. Or worse yet, jump straight to plagarism allegations.

I guess I get the similar vibe thing though. They are within the Finnish pop/iskelmä genre and both adhere to its conventions quite well. It is why the Valoa Varten album got crushed by critics. Anyone within the pop field will end up there, and it gets boring.

Both are pop groups and they use very similar influences in their music, and choose quite often to go for the romantic longing topics. If I didn’t listen to both bands actively, I imagine they could sound almost the same. As is, I rarely find them the same, because they have a completely different style and way of going about it.

yeah no totally I get that the similarity isn't in the way where say it's like. plagirism amount or like, idk a ripoff that would stand its ground in ANY WAY if you were to look at it legally or something. like I said I wouldn't even go so far as to call it a ripoff at all

and yeah the emotion and feelings of the song is quite different too, and the rest of the lyrics are more different to each other than the chorus as well, but I meant more that this song sounds a bit more like a kuumaa song/kolme toivetta itself than emma & matilda's other songs kind of

I was just moreso just saying how like well, in my opinion, if you know one song, and you hear the other, you'd think oh wait these are kind of similar, that's why I called it a twin- it was a bit of an exaggeration to be honest but it's how I talk sometimes 😭✌

it's mostly in sound texture vibes/melody pattern vibes (not the same melody but I mean like where it rises and falls is either similar or inverted, or how the verses are more monotone and the choruses more melodic, or how they both start with some sort of guitar riff and then these 80s sounding synths come in with the background vocals and etc etc) and of course those two lines in the chorus but overall yeah I would not say they're similar in the sense that you would mistake them for each other, no not like that.

and as for the text, yes I understand the actual narrative is definitely not the same, 😭🙏 but in terms of these two different stories, the way they're talked about is a bit more similar than it could have been for example.

if it is an intentional nod to kuumaa/inspired by them however, sure, yes that makes perfect sense I think so too, that's about as far as what I assumed as well also when I said "this one feels extra similar" at the end there I meant finnish song lyrics in general compared to each other. yeah ig I didn't go into that much detail in the original post but that's okay tbh I was kinda talking about many different things in small amounts next to each other 😭

as for the more "on the nose" ripping off I was talking about, I genuinely think I would be more knowledgeable on this if I could just recall the damn pop songs I was thinking about half the time 💀 or like knew literally anything about kpop/jpop because I feel like there's definitely things where I would find that's similar to melodies kuumaa has used (but then again that's probably going to be an unrelated ripoff as opposed to one that is almost definitely taken either on accident or on purpose) but in general I tend to not listen to pop music/pop artists much, especially modern mainstream and english speaking ones. but so far I'm pretty sure it was kolme toivetta, rakastaja, gold digger, sä pilasit laulut, hyvikset ja pahikset, and tuhoaisti

the most damning case is obviously gold digger which is really obviously lifted from cake by the ocean by DNCE, the first vocalization of the first verse or like. the A section? (idk what it's called music theory wise 😭) starts almost the EXACT same way; a higher pitch 2 syllable sound (the first time you hear it in cake by the ocean it's also a "oo-oo" vowel too), and then the line ends with emphasis on the last syllable, and the chorus of gold digger which has a high note really similar to the high note in in cake by the ocean and also the whole melody of the chorus of gold digger is like an alto harmony/incomplete version of the "ay ya ya ya ya ya" bit in cake by the ocean, and the last chorus follows the same pattern of building up to a high note before the beat drops and the chorus starts. I will say gold digger definitely has a much simpler both melody structure and sound design than cake by the ocean, and has incorporated some other musical aspects in it which make it different enough but I definitely think if someone knows of cake by the ocean it's impossible to hear gold digger and not think instantly of that. not to mention cake by the ocean was released in october of 2015 and was immensely popular so... yeah ✌

and the other really obvious one is sä pilasit laulut because the melody on the lines of the chorus are pretty much the same as the melody of the verses in ziggy stardust by david bowie. again- when I heard this for the first time I immediately thought oh that's from that bowie song. also I guess one could say the guitars in sä pilasit laulut have a similar texture/sound to the ones in ziggy stardust and that the song in general has a bit of a 60s/70s backing vocals vibe but that's more just creative choices I feel like

and lastly I know about tuhoaisti because it was actually pointed out by people in the comments of announcing that song lol, the synth melody/reocurring melody in that song is just a faster version of the melody in jean-michel jarre's oxygène pt. 4 which is his most famous song (at least on spotify) so yeah not fully impossible that they have actually heard it and somehow taken it.

as for the other songs I swear the outro of hyvikset ja pahikset was from some coldplay song but that might just be a similarity of genre and not actual melody because I haven't found an actual match yet, and with kolme toivetta lowkey don't quote me on this bc it's not THAT similar 😭✌ but it did remind me of them, but verdis quo for the chorus of it and also the chorus of superstar by jamelie sounds a tad similar to it as well and honestly I don't think this could be called ripping off in a legal sense at all like I said don't quote me 💀🙏 and as for rakastaja it is heavily giving gta san andreas theme but that might be a slight stretch as well because it could just be a genre similarity but it seriously reminded me of that so much like both melody and the synth sounds really similar (that theme was also pretty popular in the 2010s because it was a meme or something so? maybe something???? 🤷‍♂️)

also everyone tells me (and I agree) that the melodies of suuren päivän ilta sound really familiar but yeah I got nothing of merit for those lowkey 💔

and as for other similarities in finnish music, the main one I've picked up on is the sheer frequency finns have with singing about modes of transport and travelling. like I can't listen to the discography of a finnish artist without not only 100% finding one, but more often MULTIPLE songs just about being at some sort of airport, terminal, bus/train station, highway, always travelling, always stuck, or wanting to travel, REGRETTING travelling, stuff like that- and I don't know if finns know this but the phrase "asfaltin pinta" is not really a phrase that gets mentioned in other languages. unless we're talking about mirages where it's wavy because it's hot or something. but I genuinely hear this everywhere 😭🙏 like seriously I did not know this word combination was something to be sung about so much there's also a lot of lyrics about temperature/temperature changes, or weather changes in general especially if light is involved, finns seem to notice alot when light is and isn't there lol

I'll probably mention more things as I learn them to whoever's interested but obviously I will have to do more listening because I've not exactly got an extensive catalogue of finnish music under my belt rn lol. obviously way more than the average westerner but still.

but yeah these often give an interesting insight to the language/culture of a group of people so yeah it's pretty interesting 🤷‍♂️

and if you're interested in what the behind the scenes of recolouring it looked like, here is some comparison shots bc that green was a BITCH to edit out 😭✌ and it's still kind of in there in some places... argh.

so here's a little side by side of how the colouring looks, obviously it's not perfect and some detail gets lost in the process unfortunately

and I'm certainly not an expert and there was no real reason to be doing this, it was kind of mainly for practice too tbh 🤷‍♂️ but like idk that whole effect on that video looks really nice in the other parts of it but this section of it just felt a little. much. 😭 in my opinion kinda. 😭 like they're standing in that dirty ass empty pool too and everything is DIM and GREEN and it kinda just looks,,, moldy as hell 😭

moldband... guh. anywayyy this took a LOOOOOOT of keying out and adjusting oml 🤦‍♂️

and yeah a little bit of the shadows kinda got eaten up in the process but the problem with that is the both the hue (colour) range and luminosity (shade) range in the original was so low, literally as I said so dim and green that while trying to get the colours to more or less go back where they came from, one ends up kind of divorcing a lot of colours that had become married in that process? 😭

and because everything was so so dim but also faded??? (all the dark colours were so washed out :/) but also really harsh???? 😭, when I tried to make it a bit lighter some of the shadows got eaten ig 🥀 and yeah I tried getting rid of that evil vignette a little bit bc genuinely that sh*t was too much 😭🙏 (you can kind of see that in the last pair of photos on jonttu and aarni who are at the edges of the frame for example) and unfortunately there wasn't enough light for highlights much 😔 at least my version looks more like a cool cloudy day and not a warmly lit sunny one which has forcibly been made dark and green which is what it actually was 💀

oh well 🤷‍♂️

I still can't believe they actually played Kukkulan kuningas. Now Mun pitäis se jo tietää is the only song missing. Justice for MPSJT.

Following their patterns, it is almost possible to play ALL of their songs in the cities where they have 5 dates.

(This is going to be long and boring, but keep up with me lol)

-From the Yellow album, they usually play Siks kai mä oon sun + another one... but sometimes they play 3 (SKMOS + 2). If they did that, they could play all the Yellow album songs snd still have on extra spot for another song (SKMOS + 10 more, while the album only has 9 more).

-That extra song could be a VE song. They usually play Minä toivon + one extra. This means in 5 dates, they play 6 songs. So, it's perfect, the last song will cover the extra spot from the yellow album.

-Blue album has usually 7-8 spots. If we give one extra to the yellow album, we can keep 7 for the Blue album. And this album has A LOT of fixed songs (5), but it is also short, so in 5 cities we have the 5 fixed songs, plus 2x5 other spots... Means we have 10 for 6 songs. They have more than enough room to repeat some songs and play all the album.

-Red album usually has 6 spots, and 4 fixed songs. So, 2x5=10 extra spots for 8 songs. Again, enough room for all + repeat a couple of them.

-White album has 7-8 spots usually. Again, the same as the blue album, if we take the lowest and give the other spot to other group (in this case, non-album songs), we have 4 fixed songs + 3 other songs. Which means, 15 spots for 9 songs. As the other albums, they have room to repeat some songs.

-Finally, the non-album songs. There are 10. Usually they only play one... but sometimes they play 2 or even 3. If we take the extra spot from the white album, they will have enough room for all of them once.

So, we end up with a 3 yellow, 2 VE, 7 blue, 6 red, 7 blue, 2 non album setlist for each concert = 27 songs :) The number they usually play.

Also, sometimes they add an extra song. This could give them more room to add surprises (Please, Sade tulee in Tavastia with Aaro630).

And that's all. I know they probably won't play all the songs in any city, but they could. They just don't want to lol
