a/n: this started as a fic for heather day but i turned it into a winter drabble with one too many adjectives
December 3, 1987
Delicate white snowflakes fall from the gray, gloomy sky. The frosted window looks out to the ethereal view of the collection of tall pine trees outside. The crackling fireplace is all that is lighting the tiny living room of the quaint cabin you and Robin Buckley are staying in for the winter. After all the events that have been happening back in Hawkins, you agreed to escape to a remote, wintry place in the woods for alone time.
You're curled up on the fuzzy rug in front of the glowing orange flame of the fire from the fireplace. Robin is holding you tight and so is her sweater. She gave you her polyester, dark blue sweater to keep you warm through the chilliness of December. As you slip it on over your head, you can smell traces of lavender and peppermint that reminds you of Christmases in the past.
Her icy blue eyes wander over you as she says flirtaciously, "It looks way better on you than it does me."
You give her a shy smile and say softly, "Thanks. I love you."
"No problem. I love you more," she grins, and then suggests the idea to go on a walk through the woods.
Under the lucent full moon, the two of you walk hand in hand. It's an indelible moment. The frigid, arctic wind and glimmering snow crunching under your feet with every step you take. The air is misty, yet no rain or snow activly falling- except the occasional drop of rainwater from one of the tree branches way up in the sky. Robin's sweater is still keeping you warm as the night drifts on and you keep walking further from where you started.
The stars shine brightly through the treetops and cast a hazy glow on Robin's face that makes her look even more angelic than she already is. You two start to walk back as flurries of snow start to chill your surroundings yet again.
Icicles line the trim of the cabin's roof and piles of snow start to build up along the sides of the log walls. After getting back inside the warm, cozy environment and pulling off your soaked winter boots, you and Robin rush to your snug, shared bedroom and hop into your comfy bed to warm back up.

It was a cold, gloomy, winter day at school. But it was still just a normal day.
Except for him.
I have been talking to Rodrick Heffley- the semi-popular wannabe rockstar- for a while now, but he's been really quiet lately. His only replies to my texts have been either a few dry ones or none at all. And he stopped smiling at me in the halls. And he even stopped looking my way in general. The worst part was that I knew why.
Heather Hills is the prettiest, most popular girl in school and of course Rodrick likes her more. Sure, he's kissed me before, but he likes her better. Rodrick watches Heather whenever she walks by. It's so obvious it almost makes me nauseous. I can't leave him though. Not after all he's done for me.
Here we are now.
It was December 3rd and I was standing outside the school, alone and freezing. As he's walking out the school, Rodrick notices me shivering and walks up to me, setting his backpack on the ground and pulling off his worn-out, faded-black sweater. He hands it to me as I throw it on over my head, the warmth comforting me instantly. Before I can even thank him, he picks up his bag turns around, walking over to Heather- who looks like she's been standing there the whole time- and slings his arm around her shoulders.
I mean, the first time I saw her, oh my god. Like, time slowed down. It was like a scene from some lame-o movie. You know, her hair blew in the wind and she just looked perfect. So goddamn perfect. And it was right then and there that I knew she was the one. That with Tammy, I would finally be able to be myself. You know, all of myself. Because there was always this part of me that kind of scared me, you know? But I thought that if Tammy loved me, all of me, you know, I wouldn't be so scared anymore. And then he showed up. Steve "The Hair" Harrington. Tammy fell for him hard. And my entire fantasy life with her, along with the rest of my life, pretty much imploded before my eyes.
I mean, my grades plummeted. I got grounded. I had to stay home every weekend doing chores. But then one day, I was cleaning bat shit out of my parents' garage, and I found this 8-millimeter film reel. You know? And it was just from this silly movie that I made in fourth grade, but I got it up on the projector, and all of a sudden, I was looking at this little version of myself. And that little me, I could hardly recognize her. You know, she was so carefree and, like, fearless. She just loved every part of herself.
And that's when it hit me. It was never about Tammy.

"You have it," Kylo Ren's deep voice says as he stands up, "Search him," he instructs the troopers that are standing close behind each of his shoulders as they lift him by the arms, patting him down, but they get nothing. "Put him on board," Kylo says before turning back to you. "Take her, too."
The two Stormtroopers that were standing behind you lift you up and drag you away towards his ship, following close behind Poe and his guards. While you're walking up the ramp of one of the dark ships, you hear blasters firing and the rest of the townspeople screaming in pain and fear.

The Stormtroopers lead you and Poe off the ship and through the busy Star Destroyer base, leading you through endless, echoing halls.
And now you were doomed. You were pressed against the cold, steel, vertical bed in Kylo Ren's office. You turn your head to look over at Poe, who was in the same position you were, and had blood covering part of the left side of his face, and you realize you were probably also injured, for your head had a sharp pain that didn't exactly feel like a headache. Both your hands and feet were strapped down, making you unable to move. For what seems like the hundredth time, you attempt to tug on the straps hugging your wrists.
"Struggling won't help you in any way," the deep, modulated voice belonging to Kylo Ren informs you as you notice he has been standing on the other side of the cold, dim room the whole time. "You will tell me the location of Luke Skywalker."
As much as he's asking, you still have no idea what he's talking about. You know Skywalker is hiding somewhere, but you didn't know there's a map- and that Poe probably has it. Poe remains strong and resists the one question that will doom the last of the Resistance if you give up the secret location.
"Even if I did know, I will never tell you anyth-" You suddenly get cut off from the feeling of your throat tightening and your intake of air minimizing quickly.
"That's why I'm asking the pilot," Kylo lets go of the force hold on your neck as he turns his attention to Poe and starts interrogating him, "I'm impressed. No one has been able to get out of you what you did with the map."
"You might want to rethink your technique," Poe's confident voice never faltering.
Kylo's hand moves up so it's inches from his bloodied face as Poe slowly starts to struggle. When he still remains silent, Kylo pushes Poe's head back against the solid, hard headrest.
Ren keeps the force concentrated on his neck as he speaks once again, "Where is it?"
"The Resistance will not be intimidated by you..." he stays strong, although you can tell he is struggling to breathe. Kylo tightens his hand, and Poe's throat follows suit as he lets out a pained, yet defiant, yell.
The pain became too much, and Poe finally said, "BB-8. BB-8 has it."
Kylo Ren released the force he had on Poe before slamming his head back against the headrest once again and said, "Good. Now was that so hard?" before leaving the room, giving you one last look.
The second the large door closes again, you start asking Poe all your questions, "How long did you have the location? When did you give it to BB-8? Why would you tell him? Are you okay?"
He leans his head back, closing his eyes, and takes a sharp breath. You can't even imagine the pain he's in right now, so you just stop talking and give him time to breathe and calm down.

It's not long before the door slides open and two Stormtroopers hastily enter and one tells the other, "Ren wants the prisoner. Take the pilot- leave the girl."
You quickly look to Poe to see if he's better and if he may know what's going to happen to him, but he is still in shock after everything.
One trooper leads him out and walks with him at gunpoint down the hall.
"No! What are you doing with him? Poe?" you call out to him and the guard escorting him out, and Poe tries to look back at you, but they turn out of sight.

You hear a commotion of voices yelling and blasters shooting echoing down the halls from what you assume is the launch bay. Poe has to be okay, right? He's smart enough to protect himself and escape if he can- he'll be fine. Your mind races with everything bad that can happen, but you try redirecting your mind to think about the positive, although that is really difficult to do, all because of everything that just happened to you. You shut your eyes, hoping to ease the physical or mental pain in some way.

You could've been out for minutes or hours, but you're woken up by the sound of the door hissing open and the footsteps against the reflective floors. The bright fluorescent lights blind you, but you are still unable to move your hand up to shield your eyes. Was it that bright before?
When your eyes adjust, you see Kylo Ren once again with his dark presence standing right in front of you. "He's going back to Jakku for the BB unit, correct?"
Stay silent. Don't tell him anything. Wait. But what would happen if I don't?
"Maybe you'll recognize me better without the mask," he says before slowly pulling the helmet off his head. Then you realize.
Kylo Ren is Ben Solo. Your childhood best friend. You know he turned to the dark side but no one would tell you anything because nobody wanted to hurt you. But it hurts because you never knew and had to worry about him for years.
Ben looks really different now, yet exactly the same. He has round brown eyes, plump red lips, and long dark hair messy from the mask.
"Now let me ask you again," Ben, or Kylo, continues, his voice still deep but not modulated without the mask, "Poe Dameron has gone back to Jakku to protect the droid with the location, am I correct?"
Although you choose to still not trust him, you suddenly catch yourself nodding. It felt like your own movements; he wasn't controlling you at all.
Why am I complying? He must be doing this to me.
"Good girl," he mumbles breathily as he grabs his helmet, putting it back on, and exiting the room, leaving you to your thoughts once again.

General Leia had made you her right-hand woman after you have been part of the Resistance for most of your life. She has now sent you on a mission to Jakku with the greatest pilot in the Resistance, Poe Dameron. You two have been best friends for a long time and are excited to be on a secret mission together.
As you and Poe are on lookout over the sandy planet, he spots ships approaching from a distance.
"Hide," he commands with a stern voice.
"Not without you," you say, not letting you leave him or him leave you.
"No. You stay here," Poe says, motioning for BB-8 to follow him as he stands up, "Stay hidden and protect yourself."
Right before you can argue, you see probably a hundred Stormtroopers exit from their ships as the bright flashing lights from blasters start the battle. You quickly duck behind the short sandy brick wall, then, turning onto your back, trying to think of something to do quickly.
A very confused-looking trooper with three smeared red lines of what appeared to be blood across their helmet approaches you, and when they aim their blaster at you, you assume you're done for, but they don't shoot. You look at each other for a second, and you sense goodness in him. But suddenly, two other troopers come and grab you by both your arms.
You try to struggle out of their grasp, but they're both too strong as they drag you away. You feel the other Stormtrooper watching you as you get pulled away, yet not doing anything.
The Stormtroopers lead you through the loud battlefield that was just a peaceful civilization only moments before, and suddenly, you are standing face to face with a familiar, tall figure with black robes and a dark helmet that covers all of his face.
Kylo Ren. The Supreme Leader of the First Order.
You get pushed to your knees, and a strong force holds your chin up, tilting your head up to look at him, where his eyes are behind the mask.
"You still look the same as how I remember you," his deep, modulated, breathy voice says, and before you can question anything, he continues, "You know what I've come for."
"What... I don't even..." you trail off, his powers of the force that are still holding your head up, and the familiarity of his presence causing your mind to go blank.
"You have the map to Skywalker. And you will give it to the First Order."
"I have no idea what you're-" the pull on your head moves down to your neck as Kylo's gloved hand slowly closes, but not fully.
He pulls out his lightsaber hilt and ignites it, the red glow of the large rod and two smaller points illuminating off your face. Before he can move a muscle, a blue flash approaches him, but his free hand comes out to stop it halfway between him and where it came from, which was Poe holding a blaster.
Two other Stormtroopers dragged him over and pushed him onto his knees next to you. You glance over to your friend, trying to see if he's okay, but the force Kylo has on you turns your head back up to him instantly.
Kylo Ren crouches down to your level, facing you first as he says, "You don't seem to know anything, but..." he turns to face Poe, "...your friend might."
"So who talks first? I talk first? She talks first? You talk first?" He says quickly, but rather confidently for the situation you're both in.

It's been a few months since Galactus was defeated and about a year since Franklin Richards was born. You met Johnny Storm before he became a part of the Fantastic Four, but you became way closer to Sue, his older sister. You were always there for her throughout her marriage to Reed Richards and her pregnancy. Now you spend most of your time babysitting her baby, who is way more powerful than both his parents combined, even at one year old.
Tonight, the Fantastic Four were having a Halloween party at their large apartment. Although you were only there to babysit Franklin, you decided to dress up a little to get into the Halloween spirit. You put on a headband with a halo and a modest, simple white dress.
You arrived before the party guests came and knocked on their door. Sue opens it, holding her child, and gives you a warm smile. "Welcome! You can come right in; we're just finishing setting up. And I love your costume!"
"Thanks, you too!" You compliment her simple, yet elegant, witch costume as you step inside to follow her, seeing the simple, spooky decorations around the large room. You take Franklin from her, carrying him into Sue and Richard's bedroom. So far, you've only seen Sue and their robot assistant, H.E.R.B.I.E., who was setting everything up. You figured the three guys were getting ready in another part of the complex.
You were sitting on the bed with Franklin in your lap as you watched Snow White on the small monochrome television. Outside, the sound of many voices gathering gets louder as more people arrive for the party.
There is a quiet knock before the door slowly opens, and in steps Johnny. You haven't seen him in a few weeks, which was honestly making you start to miss him a little. He approaches the bed and sets down a small plate with a cookie decorated with half black and half white frosting.
"Brought you something," he gives you an awkward but cute smile, "I can bring you anything else if you need anything. I really appreciate you watching my nephew."
"Thank you so much for this," you say, taking a small bite from the cookie, and you have to admit it is pretty delicious. "And it's no problem watching him- I love this kid."
He looks down at Franklin and smiles again, holding one of his tiny hands in his and saying, "If you want a break and want to party- or, talk- with everyone out there, I can hang with him in here."
You shake your head politely, "Nah, it's just adults drinking wine and not even celebrating what they're here for. It's so boring out there, but it's nice and cozy in here."
"Can I stay in here with you, though?"
"Of course!" You move to the side a bit so he can fully sit on the bed next to you.
"I love your costume- it's so... you."
"Oh, please, I'm nothing like an angel."
"Yes, you are, you act- and look- exactly like one," Johnny affirmed as a light blush appeared on his cheeks. You just laugh to yourself and shake your head in response, looking back down at the baby. But he continued by saying, "Trust me, you are an angel."
