"[I wanted to capture] mostly just the feeling of how small she is compared to these huge creatures that she's reared from babies."
—Tyler Jacobson about his Daenerys Targaryen art piece for the 2027 A Song of Ice and Fire Calender
what's crucial to fundamentally understand about thalia and luke and by proxy their respective endings is that, by no fault of theirs, one factor that largely determined their fate's is that they [generally] embody the archetype of pjo ancient greek heroism which is antithetical to our story as its key thematic preoccupation is centred around transformation and dismantling the cycles of greek tragedy via the exploration of yielding, especially since these patterns are what source but also are continued by said paradigm of classical heroism; i.e from heros not effecuating the principle of yielding. meaning that narratively the ""only choice thaluke had"" was to remove themselves from the narrative to allow for growth to take place as our story calls for change from these ancient genres; for contemporary heros, embodied by percy and annabeth, to establish a better world. although our protagonists once intentionally mirrored thalia and luke, which demonstrated how the structure of tragedy mould the next generation to inherit the roles of tragedy of their predecessors, (meaning to be allegorical in how the cycles of oppression through agents of socialisation and cultural osmosis condition the youth to become subjugated and eventually perpetuate this framework), percy and annabeth instead go on to break free from their preordained roles inherited by their narrative precursors and now become our cyclebreakers, the heros of our modern tale. in a world where the olympians and the system "only know how to replay the past," our story forges a new future. you could even argue that luke became the hero of the prophecy and thalia rebuked the prophecy for the same reason: to allow for percy to be the hero of our story to facilitate progress. within their final decision they finally broke away from the archaic standard and became contemporary heros in their own way, too. tldr: thaluke were always doomed man

not all ships are For wanting them to be in a happy healthy relationship together. sometimes shipping two characters means you want them to be erotically obsessed with each other and become entwined in a mutually toxic love affair for a few months and then horrifically break each other's hearts and never speak again. sometimes you want them to be codependent best friends with enough repression to explode a submarine who only make out/have sex when they're at their worst. sometimes you want them to pine after each other for years, never say anything, and then die. sometimes you want them to kill each other. this, too, is shipping
