#like not even joking #nemesis ily we dont even get to meet you until moa and yet you are still so intriguing #but boy .. you sure did fuck him up #and the worst part is it needed to be done #ethan nakamura #pjo #and then there’s hermes who hesitates or maybe even outright rejects (i have to reread) telling luke about what may saw in his future #and that wasn’t enough to save him either #LMAO!#but on a more serious note there’s way more to luke’s fate and everything that led him there #just so yk im not trying to simplify any of it in the tags #(also hermes did directly interfere in some ways - bringing may to chb bc she wanted to host the oracle - even if he disapproved #and assigning luke a quest that had already been done in the past which.. obv didn’t bode well lmfao)#no word about his fate but he still meddled in ‘‘smaller’’ ways #:) <3

Percy + carving his own path that differs from that of old Greek heroes

#percy jackson #pjo #soo much emphasis is placed on sally naming him perseus bc names have power which. it’s valid ofc #sally wanted her son to have a happy ending so she named him after the one hero who did. it speaks to sally’s knowledge about greek myths #and how much love she has for her son #but i think it’s not nearly dicussed enough how both sally and poseidon both understanding that percy needed to make his own choices #and carve his own path (sally’s ‘you’re enough like me to understand. if my life has to mean anything i have to live it myself’)#poseidon wanting to make sally an underwater palace and presumably protect her and percy both but ultimately accepting sally’s decision #which is mirrored by him telling percy that no matter what choices he makes he still claims him as his son #and this isnt me trying to give poseidon a lot of credit here. he’s still very much a deadbeat #but i just find it so interesting that in avoiding direct interference in percy’s life #<- for the most part i mean.. he still had one of his nereids give percy 3 pearls to help him on his quest #and gifted him a sand dollar on his birthday which proved to be useful #but in comparison to other parents in the series who did directly interfere with their kids’ lives #such as hermes being the one to give luke an unoriginal quest which only added to his misery #(‘where’s the glory in repeating what other’s have done’) he also got a physical scar to match #its luke coming back to chb after failing a quest that was assigned to him by his father and hearing kronos’ voice in his head right after #and it’s may castellan being the tragic version of sally’s character #it’s luke’s fate being decided even before he was born #all bc zeus (and the other gods) wanted to take control of the prophecy by outlawing children of the big 3 #his decision to kill maria and the di angelo siblings led to hades cursing the oracle which led to may’s tragic fate which strained #luke’s relationship with his father and in trying not to get too involved hermes made things worse but when he actually did try #to do something for luke (giving him the quest) it also made luke spiral further which.. i mean luke’s fate had been sealed fr this time #you could also see this play out in other tragic characters #ethan’s mother literally took his eye so that he’d bring HER retribution #an eye for an eye in the most literal sense #there’s also the case for jason and hazel which… hoo’s writing is pretty messy and i’ve vented too much in these tags already but #jason’s mother gave him up and left him in the hands of juno who felt ownership over him (which he tries to free himself from)#and hazel’s backstory with marie and gaea and how she also felt that she could own hazel #also @ hazel’s second chance at life + telling hecate shes not choosing one of her paths shes making her own. if only hoo was better..
