I’m making some arts to run parallel to Azula Ship Challenge 2017.  The prompts are too hard for me so I’m just doing some other drawings instead.  I encourage everyone to check out the #AzulaShipChallenge tag for all the wonderful entries and to submit some of your own!

Azula Ship Challenge 2017

Hey Azula fans! Monday October 9th, 2017 is the start of the #AzulaShipChallenge!

Please free to participate in this 8-week writing and art challenge. The rules are simple:

Each Monday, post a story, story chapter, or art piece based on the corresponding prompt of your choosing (see below for dates and prompts).

You will have two options from which to choose for each week - pick one or the other, but not both!

Azula must have at least one ship - it can be anyone; it can be multiple people; it can be a BrOTP!

Tag your work with the #AzulaShipChallenge tag

No word limit for writers- write as much as you want!

You can write 8 separate stories or one 8-chaptered story or anything in between. The choice is yours!

Each chapter can involve a different ship for Azula - highly encouraged!

All ratings are accepted. Please tag any work with adult oriented content with the additional #NSFW tag when applicable.

It is highly encouraged to branch out from your OTP/OT3 and write something unexpected. You may surprise yourself!

As stated before, art contributions for the challenge are also highly encouraged! Please feel free to contribute an art piece in place of a fic for the prompts.

People who ignore the fact that Azula was a 14 year old girl with severe anxiety, paranoia and depression brought on by a negligent father and an immense amount of pressure to succeed make me so upset like y’all will talk all day about Korra’s depression and ptsd because she’s the protagonist but Azula was “just crazy”

Why Azula is Lawful Evil not Neutral Evil? Shouldn't she and Ozai be switched?

No, they’re fine as is. 

Ozai can’t be Lawful because his motivations and ideologies are wholly selfish and place little value on established rules. But since he is not promoting the spread of “evil” philosophies beyond what’s already been established by his predecessors, and pretends to respect the hierarchy of law while planning to overthrow it, he cannot be pegged as Chaotic either. A truly Lawful Ozai would not have attempted to seize the throne despite how much he wanted it (it is common for Lawful Evil aligns to be content in serving instead of ruling, but Ozai’s self-centered policy would never allow him to settle for this), not unless it could be done in a manner than was publicly amenable and/or subverted existing laws for his own benefit. Lawful Evil aligns don’t just spit in the face of their authority for no good reason, it doesn’t really do any good for them and isn’t their typical M.O. So for someone who had the guts/foolishness to prod Azulon right to his face, its not as fitting. 

Azula on the other hand has always been content in serving under her father as long as it would net her acceptance. Part of this is loyalty to her father and part of it is loyalty to the law, as (during the timeline of the show) the Fire Lord is the undisputed highest ruling party in the nation. Consider this quote from the alignment set:

He cares about tradition, loyalty, and order but not about freedom, dignity, or life. He plays by the rules but without mercy or compassion. He is comfortable in a hierarchy and would like to rule, but is willing to serve. 

Azula values order and loyalty more than almost anything else, enforces these things in the people serving under her, and is most painfully effected when these ideals are lost. She is also rarely going to involve outsiders in her pursuits, while other Evil aligns are unlikely to bother, and Azula doesn’t near as much selfishness as her father or typical Neutral Evil aligns do. Despite everything he’s done, Azula was also unlikely to betray Ozai because of the authority he represented, both that familial and governmental–and not liable to steal it either.

This is also proved in databooks that told by characters’ perspectives (like Sozin’s Comet): Ozai was mostly says “me” and “I”, while Azula was mostly says “we” and “ours”.

It terms of selfishness Ozai beats Azula by miles. He also likes to be alone (or may be used to be alone then turn into adaptive behavior), while Azula likes to to have companions to work and even share achievements with.

Since they refer to Lu Ten as Iroh’s “son” that means they didn’t actually interact with him or they were too young since he left to Ba Sing Se with Iroh. Or maybe Zuko did but Azula didn’t since she was younger.

If someone is being overly emotional, Azula will often shut that person down rather quickly. She prefers that people approach a situation with their strength, logic and self-control, rather than emotions. Her obsession with efficiency, power and unwavering belief in the merits of rationalism, especially professionally, makes Azula incredibly insensitive in pursuing her goals and less empathetic toward someone, dismissing personal circumstances, sensitivities, and preferences as irrelevant, weaknesses and irrational.

This trail in her is both strength and flaw, strength because it makes Azula more successful and focus and most likely would use these negative emotions to fuel her abilities. Her process is rational and she never relies on emotional impulse when it comes to her decisions. And a flaw because it’s clealy made her easily hated by the others who’re more emotional.

But since this is only Zuko’s PoV on his sister there should be missing information, probably Azula was simply repeating what her father said, since it’s in-character for Ozai to say such a thing.
