A German Jewish woman was forced to remove her Star of David necklace at a security checkpoint before being permitted to enter a courtroom in northern Germany — where ironically a man was on trial for excluding Jews from his place of business.

The incident on Monday raised concerns over hostility toward Jews in public spaces, amid a wave of incidents in Germany and across Europe of people being denied access to places and services for being Jewish or Israeli.

On Monday, Keren Stopka was asked before entering the Flensburg District Court in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein to remove her Star of David necklace so as not to “disrupt” the proceedings, in order to be allowed to observe the case.

“I had to remove my entire Star of David necklace and hand it over. I wasn’t even permitted to keep it under my shirt or in my pocket. I can’t remember the last time I took it off — it’s part of who I am,” Stopka told the German newspaper Bild.

In that courtroom, 60-year-old Hans-Velten Reisch was on trial for incitement to hatred after he hung an antisemitic sign on his second-hand shop last year that read: “Jews are not allowed to enter this place!!!”

“Nothing personal, no antisemitism. I just can’t stand you,” the sign further said.

I would answer that it is the only place in the entire world where a Jew can feel loved, safe, protected, feel at home.

No matter how many wars our country has been through and is going through, how many terror attacks happening every day, running to shelters…

Israel is the only Jewish country in the world that allows Jews to live safely and with Jewish pride on Earth without being ashamed of their Jewish identity and without hiding it.

Jews must have at least one place in the world that accepts them as they are. This is exactly the reason why Israel must continue to exist.

The sound approach I propose for both scenarios is to understand where the traumatized people are coming from and to give them some grace (understanding isn't justification) , but also to not condone the blanket racist statements that they make even if their worldviews are limited or if they're being harmed because more bigotry doesn't solve bigotry; it only adds to the animosity. Rather we should encourage people to try to be nuanced for their sake and for others, focusing on critiquing ideologies or actions rather than entire identities, or encouraging racism against any identity for the actions of some.

But of course I don't think a lot of leftists might do that; they only care about listening to any emotionally-charged argument or social media post out of guilt and the need to feel special as "Human Rights Activists <3", and not actually putting any thought or weighting their "activism" mantras and attacks.
