been a minute since i've done one of these but i'm slowly coming back to dc so here's some fic recs:

the frost is all over by mintchocochips donna troy centric long fic with an incredible premise. basically, she and kyle stumble upon technis tech. set right before n52 happened and it is genuinely some of the most compelling character work for donna. incredible sense of building up horror at the simulated reality + consideration of her identity nexus of torment

Girls Against God by Luvo mia dearden centric short fic where the ghost of stephanie brown visits her right when she's starting out as speedy. set sometime after ga #46 and is such a poignant look at both their relationships with vigilantism & what drives them

I Would Eat His Heart in the Marketplace by dustorange dick grayson centric fic set in the very early days of his robin tenure. incredible prose with a wonderful consideration of the nuances of the burgeoning dynamic between bruce, alfred and dick

One Foot Out the Door (Before We Even Start) by 2mad4plaid  roy harper centric character study done spectacularly through smut, wrt his relationships with jade, donna, grace & dick

if you can keep me, i wanna stay here with you forever by 2mad4plaid  bruce wayne pov + cass cain focused, where cass joins the bats early. set during dick's early robin years. gorgeous character work and it's just such a feel-good fic that it'll make you feel like your heart is full of love for every character in it

take a bite by alarmclockz kyle rayner centric one-shot with some really visceral and gutting depiction of his state of mind right after gl #56

no god can give you your purity back. by lazarusfell mia dearden centric character study with some really wonderful dissection of how her childhood affects the way she perceives the world & how it dictates her relationships in her early days with the arrows. genuinely one of the most graceful and poignant considerations of mia

moving day by FromStarstuff dick grayson centric short fic set in a canon divergent au where he moves to new york with rose & sophia after bludhaven gets nuked. just a deeply unwell freak trying to navigate the nuances of traumatized teenage girls who have so much heart. really impactful dialogue + bonus cass feature

catch up with the sunrise by cherrystainedknuckles (princesscharmingx) stephanie brown & dick grayson centric + damian focused, set during the reborn era. such a wonderful insight into their characters and how deeply burdened everyone is but how that doesn't stop them from reaching out

operations continued in rescue mode by notquiteaghost dick grayson centric, set during his robin years. a devastating character study in the form of debating the elements of child endangerment in vigilantism & robin + bonus clark appearance

This necessary salt. by halquetify dick grayson centric where he takes a solo road trip while actively losing his mind. genuinely one of the most authentic characterizations + indelible prose

to batman, leslie will always to some extent be “the bad guy” by the virtue of her concern- or worse, her rightness in it. she says “someone will get hurt” and if no one gets hurt, or if they get hurt but always bounce back anyway, then she’s an old lady nagging heroic and brave young men for no reason. and if she’s right, if she’s right as she was right about jay, if she’s right as she was right about stephanie, she’s the prophet of tragedies, and no one likes the bearer of the bad news.

we never see leslie’s reaction to jay’s death. she’s not at the funeral. but here’s how the story goes, in my mind: it’s batman and not bruce who tells her. she doesn’t say anything, but maybe he reads it in her expression anyway, no matter if it truly was there – that silent “i told you so,” and in reply he says, out loud: “you were right. happy now?”

so leslie doesn’t came to the funeral. if she was invited at all.
