mermaid cumplane au

xiang fei lives near a large ocean coast. sometimes when he's struggling to write he may go out in his tiny little row boat and read what he has aloud to no one in particular. he also talks to himself about his issues.

shen yuan is a mermaid who listens to this mess of a man's messy writting and even messier life. its become a bit of a routine. Xiang fei tends to show up about every other week sometimes every week if he's really struggling and shen yuan's curious (read:nosy) about him so he shows up.

he really wants to criticize xiang fei's writing especially when he scraps a perfect chapter for some slop because 'it won't sell well'. sy isn't sure what that means other than a story filled with bland repetative sex. after a particular bad rewrite, sy can't stand it and peaks out from the water to tell him he can't possibly make those inane changes. he does not account for the fact that, while he knows xiang fei very well, xiang fei doesn't know he exists and the existence of humanlike non human creatures can be disturbing.

needless to say, xiang fei has a small panic attack and faints

I’m not really satisfied with this drawing, but it’s Illumi, so I couldn’t bring myself to leave it unfinished. Next week, the semester break is over and university starts again, which will really take up a lot of my time. So yeah I won’t be able to post every week. BUT I’ll still try to keep feeding y'all.

Can’t finish the other ones rn so have this princely looking idiot for the end of mermay as a sneak

Since he’s the only one done I’m adding a bunch of ideas with it that idk if I’m going to do anything with them:

• he’s the fastest and best hunter of the reef and enjoys hunting in the open sea (terrifying)

• Instead of kicking open doors he straight up impales people with his horn because of how fast he goes everywhere which he obviously gets very much chastised about

• when he’s exited or flustered or gets angry his dorsal fin rises up like an angry cat’s fur puffing up

• after sy cleared up the ghost shark mission debacle between him, sj and sqh (with many threats and rejected apologies) he actually admits to liking hunting with sj (bc sj may be feral but he knows what he’s doing)

• other fishes think him and sy would make a great couple but he never understands the implication (and may or may not have a crush on sj anyways)

• he and sj capture all sorts of critters for sy :3

I have watched one too many videos about fish and have concluded that sy would fucking love the ocean. Why are there so many fish?? Why are they all so weird?? And WHY OH WHY DOES NO ONE SEEM TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THEM???
