Tbh I believe real!Nikki is very aware of Bears feelings and does not reciprocate but as long as he doesn't outright confess she won't address it and she's very much fine with playing into it to get whatever she wants. I also believe she isn't good friends with any of her colleagues and she also isn't interested in being friends with them either. She may even possibly be a self-centered person who doesn't give a shit about Bear.

And that's sooo important to me because even if she was the biggest bitch on earth, Bear does not have the right to take away her autonomy and repeatedly rape her.

The reason I really really like the Obsession theory that the entity possessing Nikki is the ghost of Sandy the cat, is because the love of a pet is the kind of love that Bear was wishing for. He wanted someone whose life revolved around him, someone he could have all to himself and control… The reason he got upset when Nikki said she was leaving work to follow her dreams wasn’t because he wouldn’t see her as often. They already hung out outside of work and could easily have kept doing so. He was upset because Nikki moving forward with her life and past him, and that made him want to keep her where she was with him… kinda like someone wants to keep a pet. The love he wanted wasn’t the consensual love of a person with thoughts and feelings. He asked for someone who loved him more than anyone in the fucking world, and who loves a person despite being kept like a pet with no real autonomy? Who waits for them to get home, getting sick or having an accident in the carpet in anticipation of their return? Who brings them dead things as a present to prove their love? Who bangs on the door of the bathroom because they can’t bare to be separated from the person they love? Who attacks people who get too close to their person? Who screams when they think they’re being ignored? Who watches them sleep during nocturnal hours when they’re awake? 🐱

I know it’s not really relevant anymore but I haven’t seen anyone talk about the cat in Obsession. Because Bear also killed the cat. He can’t even be responsible for a CAT. Those are pills he’s not supposed to be using (and that he is willing to abuse as we see in a later conversation with Sarah) seemingly left on the counter with their (child and well… animal) safely cap off. In a house with a cat. And he doesn’t tell anyone why the cat died. He doesn’t want to be blamed for his blatant animal neglect. He tells Sarah (without taking blame ofc), but can’t even tell Nikki.

The movie shows us what kind of guy Bear is VERY early on.
