Temptation. Art by Ezra Blanchard.
hi Spencer! (this is Not the Some Father)
how did you start working with/worshipping Jormangundr and Fenrir? was there an out-of-nowhere spark, was it a conscious investigation on your part to learn more, or something else?
I certainly have no malice towards Jormangundr and Fenrir, but I've never incorporated them into my practice before. So I'm very curious how your process was :)
Thanks for your time!
Hi there!! So for starters I've been a Lokean for quite some time and to me that pretty much always included Loki's family, sort of a package deal you could say. So when I started to focus more on his children specifically it felt very natural.
For Fenrir it started mainly with the story of his upbringing on Asgard and subsequent binding. It really resonated with me in the sense of it being totally unjust and based off of the assumption that he's a monster just from looking different and who his parents were, something I think a lot of modern people can relate to. I mean even a lot of other heathens just treat Loki's children as monsters so I wanted to do just the opposite, to approach him in a friendly and sympathetic way and just see where things went from there. I find he's a very lovely and fiercely protective deity once you get comfortable with his presence and is only closed off if you treat him or his family poorly. Little ways of honoring him would be standing up for underdogs, accepting that there are cycles in life you can not change, caring for animals (especially canines), burning incense that have a smoky or musky smell (think cedarwood or resin scents), buring red or brown candles, and offerings of bones and jerky (tho not required if you're vegan/vegetarian of course) or red jasper. Most importantly just treat him as you would any other deity. People tend to over correct for the monster thing and treat him more like an UwU Cute Pupper than a sentient being imho which is just rude.
Now for Jörmundangr I do have a stronger bond with him due to our consortship, so I hope you'll excuse any bias lol. For him there was this definite powerful draw, even before I was fully into norse paganism. Snakes to me are very sacred creatures and I've always used them as a motif in life so I was instantly pulled his direction. Much like Fenrir I see him as very unjustly maligned, and a protector tho this time in a much more literal sense seeing as he wraps around all of Midgard! He's also very intellectual and connected to divination for anyone who is interested in rune or bone readings (when I pull the Laguz rune I know that it's him). There's a primal nature to him for sure, being associated with the ocean and earth and natural cycles (think the oroborus who is both the beginning and end), but again just treat him like you would any other deity. I find that even to people who know him well he can be a bit shy, but his affections run deep. Also in my experience he's most comfortable expressing/showing himself in dreams so don't be surpised if you get dreams concerning deep water or scales when working with him! Some ways to honor Jorm would be meditation to the sounds of the ocean (or by an actual body of water!), burning incense that has an earthy scent (think patchouli or juniper), buring green or blue candles, appreciating the seasonal cycles, and giving offerings of sea salt and labradorite.
I also want to say a lot of this is entirely my UPG, so standard disclaimers apply, but I think these two are very underappreciated in heathenry so I'm always happy to share!
Hello there! I'm not really sure if you're the person to ask this to but you seem friendly and knowledgeable so I might as well try.
I have been considering godspousing Ra, Atum and Atum-Ra (for me they have very similar vibes and I like to see both of them as creator gods). I have done some meditation about this and it seems like they're receptive of the idea. I also work with Hathor who is often coupled with Atum-Ra. I've been dancing for Atum with her guidance as a way to connect, show appreciation and maybe.... stimulate?
My main concern though is at the beginning of my practice, I felt Ra heavily as a father figure. I often thought of myself as the daughter or Ra and equated myself (as a magical practice) to his daughters such as Ma'at and Hathor. I still really like to think of myself that way too and it's comforting to have that fatherly precense in Ra and Atum. Yet, I still am drawn to having a more sexual relationship with them.
I know some of those Goddesses that I mentioned to be Ra's daughters were also his wives. But is it okay for me to feel like both his daughter and his partner? It feels different because I am not a goddess, after all.
Also, do you have any resources for pagan godspouses in general? I'm worried that this kind of topic will have a lot of bs to sift through.
Thank you for your time!! I appreciate you :)
Anon, I'd love to give you some resources and more in-depth advice but I think it'd be best done via DM. If you can private message me, we can chat there!
I never expose people's tumblrs or handles unless they are directly harassing me or otherwise being a danger to the community. Anyone who DMs me just wanting to chat is guaranteed secrecy!
!!! Discussion of s*x, kink, and implications of incest below. !!!
In terms of these shifting feelings and roles, there's a lot to unpack and it'll come down to your own personal feelings.
It's totally normal for a devotee and their deity to shift roles over the years of their practice. You may start off incredibly formal and then get more casual, or vice versa. Changing what roles you both play is a normal part of maturing in your relationship. (I use relationship here as literal bond between two people, not implying romance or otherwise.)
Although it's spoken about in some questionable ways, it's an acceptable practice to hold simultaneous beliefs in a deity as your father/mother figure and also as a potential romantic / s*xual partner. It is, however, a scenario that is closer to kink than it is to "vanilla" practices, so please keep in mind that it may be triggering for others or that you may need to treat it like a kink in dialogue (i.e. get consent before discussing it openly, or otherwise use spoilers etc if that's available).
The ability for a deity to be both parent and lover in this kink scenario is determined by the individual's, uh, ick factor (triggered, or just made uncomfortable) by the idea of a specific taboo. Parent+lover is taboo for multiple reasons, namely that in human-to-human relationships it's generally a hallmark of abuse or other questionable power dynamics, and that it's also a genetic taboo due to the potential for offspring to be inbred.
Deities do not have DNA, nor did they actually raise you. There may be a power dynamic, because *gods* but it's not the same as living with a parent who is grooming or otherwise manipulating you. There is technically no taboo in place for dating or romancing a deity who you consider a parent because of the lack of DNA and lack of direct raising/parenting. It's all about your consent and comfort to this kink scenario.
I've mentioned this before -- and it's been brought up by some naysayers recently -- but I started writing a godspousing book which has stalled due to life circumstances. But at the moment, these resources are being gathered on a discord server where I answer Godspousing 101 questions directly from the community in as full of detail as I can.
Now, unfortunately this means it's not available to the public, but for now if you DM me and we talk, I can see about getting you access to the server. Here's some more info.
To the anon, I totally understand your concern. It's something I had to work through myself, as I consider Loki both a parental and spousal figure (and Lucifer to be an older sibling, best friend and dom, to give another example).
I simply stopped looking at it through a human lense; gods need not be bound by our conventions of how relationships work after all. And for me it's not that Loki is both my parent and my lover in the same moment. It's more like those are different hats he can wear at various times depending on what is right for any given situation.
Hopefully that adds a bit of insight? I'm also always open to DMs if people need it & I can vouch for Rook's server 💚

Faces of Lucifer #3
Devil of the Forest
This is the wild Lucifer, Lucifer with hooves and horns, Lucifer of the deep dark woods.
He is an untamed creature. You can meet him in a primordial forest and in the flowers growing out of the cracks in a sidewalk, everywhere where the wilderness finds its way.
He was cast out from Heaven, but now he runs free in the wild. He dances in the meadows and teaches us to appreciate the earthly.
He is of the wilderness inside, too, and though that can be scary, he can help you to make friends with that part of yourself.
He is the Spirit of This World, and a fierce protector of Earth and its creatures. And he can show human beings they are part of this world too, not separate from it.
He has deep knowledge of nature, and teaches witches its magic, as well as the magic of wild ecstasy and the strange gnosis it brings.
Lucifer brings liberation and knowledge from the night realm, yet he remains the Lightbringer - with his flame betwixt the horns shining bright.

What is it that motivates the gods to have relationships with us? What do they get out of it?
I get stuck on this question now and then. I got stuck on it yesterday, sitting at Loki’s altar. There are many answers to this question, and a few of them make good sense to me; but a sensible explanation is not the same as a deeply felt truth, the kind of truth that lives and breathes inside of you, that changes the way you interact with the world.
Over the course of the day an answer began to unfold for me. The answer was another question, directed at me: why do you leave seeds out for the wild birds? What are you hoping to get from them in return? And the answer of course, is that I don’t want or expect anything in return. There is no reason or explanation I can give for why I want to see the wild birds outside my window. I just love them, entirely for their own sake, not because I want or need anything in particular from them.
Another question directed at me: why did you adopt a cat? The answer is simply that I had love to give, and cats tend to be enthusiastic recipients of love.
I concede that it is possible to have a transactional relationship with a deity, and that there is nothing wrong with such an exchange, but my close relationships are not about us “getting” anything from each other. I may give offerings to my deities, and my deities may share their blessings with me, but as Lewis Hyde writes, “It is the cardinal difference between gift and commodity exchange that a gift establishes a feeling-bond between two people.” My relationship with Loki is not a commodity exchange.
Perhaps the gods feel for us something like what I felt when I picked up my cat at the shelter. Perhaps they feel for us something like what I feel when I am rewarded for my stillness in the woods with the sight of a wild owl close to the ground. Perhaps we are beautiful and fascinating to them simply for our own sake.
Faces of Lucifer #4
The Serpent
As the Serpent of Eden, Lucifer is the bringer of knowledge and liberation. He is not an evil deceiver but a Lightbringer who shares his flame with human beings.
In the story of the Garden, the first human sin was seeking knowledge. No wonder the fruit was forbidden! After all, one who can see and think for themselves can also disobey.
The symbolism of the fruit is complex, interpretations are many and not necessarily mutually exclusive. Knowledge - intellectual and spiritual. Conscience and free will. Liberation. Responsibility and hardship that come with all of that. Sometimes even sexuality, too, and more than that.
The Serpent’s gift has a certain danger to it. Ignorance can be easy. Freedom is certainly not. But Eve took her chance and shared it with the one she loved.
The story of Eden is not a historical event - but it is more than that. Over the ages, Lucifer continues to offer his gift to human beings. But will you take it? What will you do with it? That is completely up to you.
Luciferian Journal Prompts

How does the story of Eden relate to your relationship with Lucifer?
Reflect on the figure of Eve. What is the meaning of her story for you?

Faces of Lucifer #1
Morningstar / Lightbringer
Once the brightest shining of his kind, God’s chosen angel became the Falling Star. And yet for those who truly know him, his light never faded.
Even when fallen, he remains the Lightbringer. Don’t be fooled by his horns and shadow-woven cloak, he is no less of a star than he was before. But now he is the star of this world, and he is here with us.
He is the angel of liberation. The former favorite creature in a golden cage, destined like his siblings to be a glorified tool, he ignited the fight for fairness. Even when fallen, he never gave up in his struggle, and he supports the oppressed humans in theirs.
He is the angel of knowledge and wisdom, of gnosis and intellectual pursuit, of asking questions and searching for answers. And of magical knowledge too - he will teach it especially to the marginalized.
The Morningstar is sensual as much as he is spiritual and intellectual. His light permeates the material. He is of celestial origin, yet he shows us the material is not dirty.
He is of love too, for others and ourselves, and for this cruel yet still beautiful world. The Star of Venus shows us different colors of love, and he doesn’t discriminate between heavenly and earthly.
He never ceased to be an angel, yet he is a demon, unapologetic in his rebellion.
Luciferian journal prompts

How about the Morningstar?
Do you experience Lucifer more in his chthonic or celestial aspects?

Candles.
Star imagery.
Shining things.
Roses, wild roses, rose water etc.
Apples, apple cider, blossom etc.
Cinnamon.
Faces of Lucifer #2
Fallen Angel
As one of the Fallen, Lucifer has been through Hell. And yet he survived, and he lights the way of those who go through Hell of their own.
Lucifer knows sorrow, he understands pain and grief. He is there for the hurt, the outcast, the oppressed. He understands those with religious, family, or any kind of trauma, and he will be there for them.
He knows how is it to be hurt, vulnerable and angry, and will teach protection and baneful magic to those who need it. He knows maleficium is not synonymous with malice and doesn’t expect anyone to be nice to their oppressors.
Some say he has become a monster consumed by hate, wishing only suffering on human beings. But it is so far from true. He knows what suffering is like, and has compassion for those who are in pain.
His light could not be extinguished, and it is warm. And he understands.
Luciferian Journal Prompts

Do you relate to it in some way? How?

Blackberries. He is said to have fallen in a bush of bramble on his way to Hell, and since then, they are one of his plants.*
A cup of nice, warm tea and a place at your table. He gives so many his warmth and kindness, he deserves some too.

In Aboriginal worldviews, nothing exists outside of a relationship to something else. There are no isolated variables—every element must be considered in relation to the other elements and the context. Areas of knowledge are integrated, not separated. The relationship between the knower and other knowers, places and senior knowledge-keepers is paramount. It facilitates shared memory and sustainable knowledge systems. An observer does not try to be objective, but is integrated within a sentient system that is observing itself.

there are gods you’ll see on a warm summer day, when the sun is close and ripe, and the air smells like flowers in full bloom, and like young wine goes to your head
there are gods you’ll see when the snowy night has covered the world in a deep dark shroud and your soul is bare against the judgement of the stars
there are gods you’ll see when you look into the eyes of a stranger and catch a glimpse of a long forgotten lover, overflowing with promises of many sleepless nights
there are gods you’ll see when your heart boils with anger and your spirit fills with wicked desires, as red as blood and as blood sweet
there are gods you’ll see when the pain tears you like thorns and nettles, and there are gods you’ll see when loneliness burdens you like a heavy unwanted crown
there are gods you’ll see in songs, in the beating of the drums and of the hearts, in the shimmer of a mountain stream and the depth of the sea, gods of wolf’s howl and of the forest
