a couple people asked for fic recs and no one asked for any specifics so I’m just throwing out all the ones I really liked. a lot of this is pretty explicit so uh, apologies if that’s not your thing. I’m gonna recommend specific works, but I also highly recommend checking out the full archives of rageprufock, saltyfeathers, komodobits, sass_master and schmerzerling
The Girlfriend Experience by rageprufrock – practically required reading for destiel fans. Very sweet and endlessly re-readable.
Four Letter Word For Intercourse by bendingsignpost – this one is a LOT. modern au. Dean goes to university in his 30s and meets Cas, they become silent study partners in the library. Dean calls a phone sex hotline to help figure out if he’s really bi. Very long, very interesting. Really good character analysis imo and sex scenes that are interesting to read in a way that many fics are not.
All Things Shining by askance – I have to preface this by admitting I haven’t finished reading this yet. It’s very intense and I keep having to take breaks to do other stuff. Really beautiful writing style. The whole fic has this absolutely mesmerising soft, autumn-sunshine feel to it. Like that dream sequence in mission impossible: fallout where they hung silk down an entire street to film the soft-focus sunlight.
like moses and batman and james dean by saltyfeathers – This one is hard to put into words tbh! Viscerally upsetting in the very mundane way that trauma is in real life; it’s cathartic and meaningful rather than depressing, but it is an intense experience. If you like reading about Dean learning how to let himself be loved this is one for you. I really appreciate the ending avoiding the copout ‘everything is better and they don’t have problems now’ that people sometimes fall for.
Put Up Your Dukes by saltyfeathers – This fic is pure, concentrated sexual tension. The author’s internal voice for Dean is the absolute peak; manages to tie together his emotionally constipated trauma-repression with the inward funnyman persona endemic to ADHD, and the dialogue for all the characteris incredibly lifelike.
The (Mostly Accidental) Courtship of Dean Winchester – HANDPRINT SCAR AS AN ANGEL MARRIAGE RITE!!!!!!!! This fic is fantastic in all ways but this alone is reason enough to read it imo.
So Says The Sword by komodobits – this is THEE fic of all time. It’s like a prose-poem novel. Literally everybody should read this. Essentially a prequel to deancas meeting in canon, reading this fic makes everything about Cas in canon make you feel like a wild monkey in a too-small enclosure.
Professional Couple Only by saltyfeathers – FAKE RELATIONSHIP CASEFIC. THEY HAVE TO GET A HAUNTED APARTMENT TOGETHER.
No Kingdom to Come by domesticadventures – The only quarantine fic I’ve read and it’s magnificent. Dean and Cas become friends with beneftis, Cas builds a garden, and Dean is stupid until he isn’t.
You Can Take The Man Out of Hell by saltyfeathers – short and sweet, knifeplay with no cutting. V good.
Granted by aeli-kindara - the luck curse isn’t fixed in a pool hall; they just have to stop taking things for granted.
snippets by saltyfeathers – post falling, Cas is happy with Dean but struggles with adjusting to being human and not an angel. Very bittersweet and beautiful.

tired starlings by aeriallon – EVIL DEANCAS NATION RISE UP. Like the season 5 alley fight scene as a long drawn out sex scene. The leadup to the sex is also very good; it’s all about cas being confused by emotions and humans and tired and frustrarted by losing his grace, and mark of cain dean being an idiot and also an ass. It’s a very good fic
Bron-Yr-Aur by mrbluesky – WTF GAY LITTLE JACK!!!!! dean takes jack out for a drive, and jack tells him about himself, and cas facetime buttdials them because hes a sweet old man. One of my all time faves everybody please thank ezra calamitysongs for their contribution to literature
Cuckoo and Nest by komodobits - Dean being obsessive about his possessions is my exact SHIT like yes go girl give me the crumbs of my ADHDOCD theory I will eat it up thank you. Dean’s weird about his stuff, and Cas worries too much about how he fitsinto
unknown quantities – Cas kisses Dean for the first time when he gets hurt on a job, and they just kind of happen. Dean has a crisis about it, because he’s Dean/
Then and Now by komodobits – Childhood friends-to-lovers au; a trope that often aggravates me but komodobits managed to knock it out of the park as always. Its about the more than a decade of pining and growing apart before finally coming together for me luv <3
Don’t Ever Change by whelvenwings – dean realises he’s been dating cas retroactively, and takes him for a real date
All I’m Asking For by sass_master – short, cute, mistletoe kiss.
Smoke and And Mirrors by schmerzerling – Dean and Cas are both military veterans. Neither of them are handling it well. They meet, get high together, and start learning how to not be so fucked up together. Be careful of the warnings; Cas has hallucinations with detailed body horror/gore.
Diamond Star Halo by jad – consensual possession!!!!!! the Ultimate trope
Games of Skill and Fortune by aeli_kindara – I adore this fic. Dean lets himself be possessed by michael in order to fight the apocalypse world michael’s destruction. Michael is fucked up from his time in the cage, and dean has to rehabilitate him. Really, really interesting fic and one of my all time favourites
One White Lie by komodobits – cas pretends to be a jehovah’s witness to talk to dean. V v funny and chill
Second Childhood by cloudyjenn – sam gets de-aged and dean and cas have to look after him while he grows back up
all this and heaven too by ftmsteverogers – trans dean!!! bittersweet and cathartic read, for me. cas is very loving and supportive. Really well written.
Made Manifest by schmerzerling – Trans Dean; Cas brings him back from hell different to how he went down. Looooove the prose here.
The Tunnel of Love by xylodemon – Dean and Cas have to make out in a tunnel of love for a case. This fic is GREAT.
Along My Restless Palms by sass_master – I remember enjoyign this one but its already slipped from my brain too much to say much beyonf that. Dean fantasises about cas a lot.
New Testament [just more of the same ‘verse] by outpastthemoat – this one is hard to describe in a way that does it justice. Beautiful, wondrous prose. I love love LOVE how Cas is written in this one. He’s sad and weird and not used to experiencing pain, and Dean doesn’t understand him at all but he loves him. Something about the fact that they have such a hard time with living a life but they fall into eachother anyway is just. Chef kiss.
Build a Home by domesticadventures – theres a lot of greatness to this fic, but dean getting really into reading yelp reviews for restaurants is one of my favourite points of characterisation ever and I’ve started mentally slotting it into every fic unintentionally.
