I'm an omnist eclectic Pagan and practice witchcraft which i like to combine with my hobby of writing and art so i usually ID as a Writer Witch. On top of that I'm a Luciferian and Demonolator without a focus at all. I honestly do everything and I want to learn as much as I can.
( Please keep in mind that I am not an advanced practitioner or any sort of elder. I will post informative posts and link sources but i am still a student and I think i will always be one. Maybe in a few years I'll call myself advanced but not at this moment. )
This is what i mostly do : divination, spirit work, green witchcraft.
As a note : I am very baneful magic positive but I won't use it to curse someone i don't like.
I also have a past with Christianity but i left it behind as I didn't feel a connection to it anymore, it is something that i respect and I still see jesus as a force of love but it is not something i follow nor am I interested in it.

The Left hand path is, in the most simple terms, an approach that can umbrella multiple factors ranging from spiritual to religious practices. It values heterodoxy and individualism and is often seen as the opposite of the Right Hand path which emphasizes set structures, values and orthodoxy.
Within this post I will shorten the two to LHP and RHP occasionally.
-> As a note : The original LHP and the RHP aren't exactly opposites. Instead, they are different methods of reaching enlightenment and can be seen as two sides of one coin.
The term dates back to the late 1900's and early 2000's. It originated from Indian Hinduism and Buddhism especially Tantra. But the name of the " Left Hand Path " would only be given to it later.
-> Tantra is a spiritual tradition that we know of today through texts that were called " Tantras ". The practice aimed at reaching enlightenment, spiritual liberation and teaching that everything is sacred. It highlighted the divine feminine and celebrated sexuality. Unfortunately that last point was later skewed immensely out of proportion and brought it across as purely " sex yogi " instead of sexuality being something divine among many other divine things. For more info please check the sources.
The earliest versions were written in Sanskrit and were called DaksinΔcΔra ( The Right Hand Path )
and VΔmΔcΔra ( The Left Hand Path ) .
And although they may look like opposites Tantrics, Yodis and Vedatins believed all is one, meaning that the two paths were ultimately differed approaches to get closer to God and reach enlightenment.
Before the west adopted it in their own way and Blavansky stepped into the picture tantric practices and the left hand path were already seen as sexually immoral, degenerate and culturally disrespectful. The adoption by the west that took place in the late 1900's and mostly gained traction thanks to Helena Blavansky who practiced occultism and founded the Theosophical Society. She coined the term " Left Hand Path " as a literal translation of the Sanskrit which could be called " the left hand way ".
-> It is important to note that although Blavansky brought it to the public eye, she herself was a very controversial figure for her views on race.
Within the occult community it created a gap between " White " and " Black " magic and within the broader lens of society " the left " or just " left " was often seen as a negative. In the 1800's Cesare Lombroso said that left handedness is " a sigma of degeneracy. " In 1935 a book called " the Prevention and Correction of Left-Handedness in Children " was published. Within the bible a similar concept can be seen :
And he shall separate them one from another
as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats. And he shall set the sheep on his right, but the goats on his left.
- Matthew 25: 22-23
This is all to say that it was not seen as a good thing- at least to most. However the longer it stayed the more perception and usage changed. Later on, La Vey, founder of the Satanic Temple and Author of the Satanic Bible would include it in his bible as
" Satanism is not a white light religion; it is a religion of the flesh, the mundane, the carnal - all of which are ruled by Satan, the personification of the Left Hand Path. "
-> This can also be interpreted of taking a dualistic stance, as La Veys Satanistic bible is not very christian friendly, this can be seen as adoption of the LHP to directly oppose Christianity.
Stephen Edred Flowers, runologist, university lecturer who was also involved with various left hand path organizations wrote :
β The great problem in this is that from the right-hand-path viewpoint, it is usually understood as precisely that: a battle between good (= the right-hand path) and evil (= the left-hand path). β
β Stephen E. Flowers, Lords of the Left-Hand Path: Forbidden Practices and Spiritual Heresies
The left hand path can be many things, however there are four main values at its core.
1: Individualism.
Simply said the individual is at the core of their practice. This means autonomy, self realization and emphasis of the self. The individuals wants and needs go first and they may reject societal norms and strict religious dogma.
Even when part of a group the own individual self is the driving force of their participation.
2: Self- Deification.
This also comes from Tantric tradition. The practitioners goal is self elevation to a divine level and sometimes to reach godhood, this may manifest as working together with deities, not worshiping them in a traditional, right hand path sense but seeking to ascend and perhaps even embody a certain deities nature.
3: Antinomianism.
A rejection of religious, cultural or social norms. The forbidden is explored and taboos are questioned and ignored. This can manifest as necromancy, love and sex magic, binding and other controversial themes.
-> The controversial themes aren't a must, the LHP merely opens the door. Whether the practitioner participates or not is up to them. One can still fall under Antinomianism without going to lengths that may harm others.
4: The here and now.
It's about living in the moment as if all existence ceases after death. It focuses on the physical life instead of the chance of an afterlife with the encouragement of indulgence and hedonism.
(5: Spiritual growth. )
A follower of the left hand path may seek continues spiritual growth and growth for personal transformation and ultimately reaching their goal. Even hardships, painful lessons and failed opportunities are part of this.
( While i wouldn't count this as one of the main aspects, it is definitely a fairly big one so I will include it here as well. Another part of one of my sources also lists darkness as part of spiritual growth. I didn't include it because it felt too broad. )
-> In simple terms, where the right hand path often seeks annihilation of the own ego, melting into something bigger, the left hand path seeks to uplift the individual self onto that divine level.
Although the left hand path has a few core principles, how they are carried out and interpreted vary from person to person and are thus adapted differently by differed groups.
Practices that align with the left hand path :
Satanism ( both atheistic and theistic )
Luciferianism ( both atheistic and theistic )
Typhonian
Seitianism
Draconian Tradition
Due to it's nature the left hand path has a giant variety in rituals and how it is used by a practitioner. This ranges from all kinds of magic and spells to simple rituals, evocations, invocations etc... with the purpose of
altering ones consciousness
invoking / evoking deities, spirits or energies
creating some sort of transformation or advancement within the practitioner
These rituals can include a lot of tools including chalices, swords, gongs, incense, candles and all sort of items also used within traditional witchcraft scene. Some also use poems or create their own tools like a ritual circle or runes, what matters is that it works for the practitioner.
-> Additionally, the Left Hand Path is varied from Person to person, depending on whether they are closer to the original VΔmΔcΔra or whether they follow a version of the LHP that sees it as the opposite of the RHP.
This comes mostly from a very strong black and white, dualistic worldview that can often be seen within religions such as Christianity. What " Evil " is is mostly set in stone for a lot of people but it's especially prominent where it has already been established. This leaves little to no room for something ambivalent, neither good or bad. When something is out of the ordinary it is almost immediately sorted into evil. This also subconsciously plants itself into generations.
The left-hand path is, by nature, the opposite of rigorous rules, however it is not inherently evil or harmful.
The left hand path seeks freedom from forced conformity; it doesn't exclaim hurting others and causing pain. It also doesn't promote harm. The main focus is freedom, however different that looks for everyone, but if you participate in doing harm there will rightfully be consequences.
" The left hand path is Satan worship. "
This one, again, comes mostly from stigma, misinformation and bias. Due to the long-lasting effects of Christianity Satan has become a symbol of evil that is not only used in religious context. His name brings fear and apprehension and every so often when there is someone we see as evil he is often called " Satan " or a demon as a figure of speech. A lot of non religious people also associate demons with being evil due to it being ingrained for centuries.
Satanism is part of the left-hand path, but the left-hand path isn't Satanism. You can be part of the Left Hand Path without working together with any deity or spirit for that matter.
Satanism is a specific practice that is within the LHP umbrella and instead of being seen as a symbol of pure evil, he is also often seen as a figure representing freedom, rebellion against set orthodoxies and individuality. I wont get too deep into Satanism in this post but it is a very nuanced topic with many differed sets of beliefs, views and practices but " being evil and causing harm " is not at its core.
" Members of the LHP are egoistical and have a god complex. "
Yes, some members really do fall into this, but it is not nearly as many as some would like to say. Oftentimes, they are people who come from backgrounds with very strict religious rules and enforcement, leading to them catapulting into the opposite direction. Whether it is them feeling a need to fit a certain " evil " role they had no choice in being given, the catapult effect as some form of rebellion or another reason it is not fair to rope the entire community up with it and seeing it as purely that.
Regarding the god complex : Self deification is not the same as a god complex. Self deification is a journey full of effort that may never have an end within the individuals own life. The practitioner doesn't see themselves as a god but as someone who aims to undergo deification and puts in the effort. They don't see themselves as being above others. ( And yes again, that is a possibility and people can fall into this, however that is often not the deification that the LHP aims for and oftentimes rational thinking is abandoned by people with a god complex, another really important aspect. )
This also includes the learning of morale, ethics, consequences. The practitioner is forced to see themselves as what they are and grounded.
My opinion : People will do what they want, even those who are egoistical and may have a god complex can be part of the left hand path, closing the borders would denote it's purpose and would ultimately go against it's own principles. I am also not a fan of these people but making exceptions will ultimately turn it away from freedom.
If someone makes you uncomfortable please just block them but don't harass them. Very often these people have gone through some sort of trauma and are on the younger side.
" The LHP pushes people to extreme lengths of Hedonism and leads them to abandon morality. "
The LHP utilises Hedonism and indulgence as a means to an end, but not as the end goal.
That means that this is used for self-exploration, growth and awareness. It is a way to dive deeper within the own being and the psyche, figure out one's wants, needs, desires and confronting the own shadow, managing to attain a higher level of understanding and control over the own self.
Regarding self deification : It is a journey of continues learning, effort and struggles, not one of indulgence. Practitioners sturdy for decades upon decades, gathering as much experience as they can and becoming what they've always wanted to be. For this, intense reflection, personal responsibility and discipline are required. Practitioners need to understand the consequences of their actions and the effect of the people that they have around them to reach even higher on their journey.
Over-indulgence without consideration for others or ethics is not something that is supported. It is something often frowned upon, as it paints the community in a bad light.
The Left Hand Path encompasses a multitude of things, neither entirely evil nor entirely good. In the end, everyone will follow it and utilise it differently. Oftentimes the Left Hand Path is seen through a very mainstream, outside view, leaving many of it's more complicated topics behind.
The main focus of personal evolution, growth, personal empowerment, philosophical debt and introspection is often forgotten about or overlooked. It is approached with a set opinion already in mind and no room for new knowledge or experience. To fully be able to understand and learn for it, it must be approached with an open mind and a readiness to learn.
If you enjoyed this and found an interest, I deeply urge you to do some research as well. This was only the tip of the ice berg and although I will cover the left hand practices later, it is nothing compared to something that you research and learn about on your own.

why is the only criticism i'm seeing against the anti godspousing movement "you're being mean so i'm going to block you :("
??? or we could have a debate about the nature of the gods, guys. there's another option. i understand you might not like what "anti godspousers" saying, but someone having a different viewpoint is not just being a bitch. and if you're pro godspousing, it'd be nice if you actually talked about the reasons why rather than just "it's my experience and you should respect it or your mean >:(" which seems to be a lot of what i'm seeing now. we have the opportunity to have a really interesting discussion about the nature of deities and the history of ancient religions here!!
Why waste our energy explaining our relationships when some people don't believe certain aspects are even possible (you don't believe people can have normal conversations with the gods, for instance)? It seems pointless to describe the breadth of my relationship with Dionysus when someone may point at something I do and say, "Well, that's not real so clearly you're making everything up!" I'm not all that interested in talking to a wall.
People who are godspoused don't owe you a debate. Many if not most of us just want to live our lives without opening the "godspouse" tag just to be ridiculed, or to be called gross and wrong. Many people who are godspoused don't even actively interact on Tumblr: they exist in private communities where it is safe to be open and honest about their relationships. Just as I'm disinterested in talking to a wall, I'm equally disinterested in justifying my reality to anyone, let alone people who will water my experiences down to "lol you must have psychosis." I'd much rather devote that time to Dionysus.
honestly all of this is very fair! i think my frustration just comes from those who do engage in this debate not engaging well, rather than the idea that everyone should have this debate. you seem like someone well-grounded in your practice, and even if i disagree i think that's incredibly commendable! if you're ever open to sharing your research (especially about the Basilinna, which I could only find debate about the title on, or the Pythia which i've heard nothing about her in the context of godspousing) i'm all ears, but i appreciate that's a lot of time and energy.
I'm god spouse friendly. I won't write whole essays or pages because simply put : I am on the defensive side of this argument, people dislikes me for this and so i merely want to state a few little things, link a few articles but I'm not going to go into a full on debate, argument or any of the sort.
Also to add : This is just a small post on a big subject, a lot of people have had this debate in the past so this is just my cup of tea.
So, Godspousing is a really varied practice and most reject the Tiktofication of Godspousing, which is what you seem to be talking about.
The Tik Tok version of Godspousal :
The god can very strict and controls the persons other romantic or potential romantic relationships
Oftentimes very romantic ( this can also go for the non Tik Tok versions but it's a telling sign for Tik Tok )
I hate to say this but it is oftentimes minors who fall into this and think that a deity " chose " them.
This is what's often called the Tik Tok ( or tiktoktification ) version of godspousal and what a ton of people like to take as their punching bag.
In much more general terms and in other communities, the term " Godspouse " is also used for :
A deity you have a deep bond with
A sort of superior who guides you on your walk through life
A guide who opens your mind and provides deeper insight
A spiritual friend
A mentor who helps regarding your craft ( like for example psychopomp work, or whatever else )
The joining of a spirit and a human with a powerful commitment.
although these are just a few examples, in conclusion god spousal doesn't have to be romantic.
( Also just to add : A lot of people reject this version of godspousal because they may have this sort of relationship but don't see themselves in a godspousal relationship. That is completely fine. Whether one wants to carry the label or not is up to them )
My issues with Tik Tok is that this content is brought up to minors and uneducated people who may not know better and it may lead to some sort of mental issues or false perceptions.
Something that a big part of the community agrees on is to go into it with a healthy mindset, be prepared, learn things that could cause worry, look at how other people practice it and to learn spiritual discernment and that it is nothing for minors.
In general, non Tik Tok Godspousing is something that goes way deeper than some may think and is way harder ever break up. It's not something to take easily and do carelessly.
The bond between the own self and a deity is oftentimes very private and deeply intimate. It is a bond between two independent beings who decide how it wants to look like and what they will include.
Yes, there can be disagreements, miscommunications and silence, just like in a relationship with a real human being.
Also the way we see Godspousal nowdays is a fairly modern concept but we can see a similar practice reflected throughout history. Sometimes called Spirit Marriages ( simple overview https://www.patheos.com/blogs/normalizingtheparanormal/2023/12/spirit-marriage/ )
Additional articles :
this : https://magickfromscratch.com/2015/08/17/what-ancient-sources-say-about-godspousery/
It's an article on the Helpol side that goes a little bit more in depth and may be what you're looking for more.
Included in this article is also a less romantic version of marriage. I think it's important as to how our view regarding bonds, commitments and marriage as a whole changes throughout time and culture.
A lot of the times throughout history and ancient cultures, the concept of " marriage " as we know it today looks totally differed but people change with time, cultures change, beliefs change. I think it is nice to see how we evolved over time.
Also regarding godspousal in a more ( this is what people often bring up ) appropriation, non history accurate, oftentimes called disrespectful way : Most of these people aren't reconstructionists and have a more varied practice.
If they were following reconstructionism then I would raise an eyebrow but for more eclectic pagans this part doesn't matter that much because this is simply not something that they concern themselves with.
We all have differences in our practice and just because they don't follow history to a tee doesn't make them any less valid. As long as they don't harm anyone, are being respectful, honest and still look into sources and inform themselves it's totally okay. I am not going to police grown adults around.
Lastly, I want to add this :
Godspouses don't want to debate the topic because they will always be on the loosing side. It is their beliefs and wants that are questioned and all they do is defending themselves, there is no arguing about a topic that both people are involved in on a similar level, mostly it is just a one sided argument and for those on the defending side there is no " winning. " This is not arguing about whether coffee or tea is better, if anything the coffee lover is tearing down the tea lover for drinking leaves.
Age play is pretending to be a kid during sex. That is actually a fucked up thing to do
Not necessarily, it can also be pretending to be older. Regardless, it makes me uncomfortable to think about or to know that people do that.
So I just don't think about it and don't bother myself with it. Not my business if they're consenting adults, and since it makes me uncomfortable, I won't make it my business. I'm not going to go around telling people what they can and cannot do in the bedroom so long as they are consenting adults. That's weirder than any kink or fetish.
Genuinely, think about this for a second. Do you really think telling people who partake in it that it's weird is going to make them stop? Do you think it's possible to completely eradicate that from the earth? They're already doing it in private. As long as actual children aren't being harmed because of it or as a result of it, as long as it's not in front of me, as long as I don't know about it, I don't really care.
It can also be a coping mechanism. I'm not going to invalidate the way someone copes if it doesn't harm anyone or themselves.
Hot take but maybe what two grown, conesting adults do is between them ? How are there people who seriously believe that forcefully inserting themselves into the lives of others will help or support anyone.
There are so many things, kinks fetishes or whatever, some that would send these people straight into a coma because some cannot fathom that peoples freedom also means them doing things that one may personally dissprove of. The thing is that isn't what people do in their free time is up to them. As long as thers consent and safety there is no right to deny that freedom.
Would i ever participate in any kink or fetish ? No, i'm not into it and on top of that im Ace. Does this mean i'm gonna shame people for it ? Absolutely not, one of my closest friends is a kinkster and I'll support him all the way.
Your disgust doesn't mean that they should loose their autonomy, nor should they be shamed for being themselves.
It's the way the kinks brought up in the original post were more tame compared to all the things I see on AO3. I'm genuinely convinced these people have never been in any fandom spaces ever.
I think the main issue stems from prejudice, mainly due to not engaging with anything of that sort and i don't even mean that it has to be the content but also the communities.
Whether it's reading really well done Ao3 fanfics, ( been on there for at least three years, the diversity and non censorship is the main selling point. )
actually doing some research into the psychology of how it all works and how it's actually executed in real life ( which will also list so many safety things to keep in mind and they always highlight how important safety and consent is )
or even talking to the people one to one or joining a server to learn more. I learned so much from an nsfw chat in an aroace server of all places.
Like i genuinely have trouble understanding some people when the answers are right at the tip of their fingers.

My dream home would definitely be a little cottage or house on the outskirts of town, one drive away from civilisation but sourrounded by nature and peace. I would also have an overgrown garden with herbs, plants and veggies I'd love to grow and probably a cat as well if i end up living on my own. I'm trying to become an author so hopefully I'll make enough money for that.
πββ¬ : I mostly practice divination through tarot , oracle and recently also geomancy with the goal of one day being able to read the thoth deck !! The other part of my craft is green witchcraft. My goal is to plant more herbs in my garden so that i won't have to buy certain supplies again and be more connected with nature. Another one I'm considering is sea witchcraft because i live very close to the coast so next time i go I'll definitely tale some bottled up salt water, shells and whatever i can find !!
My familiar is a cat, i love cats so much so ill definitely also get one when i ( hopefully) move into my cottage.
π : the last tool i used was my rws tarot deck, its also the one i use most often. At this moment i don't have that many tools ( in other areas like green witchcraft at least but maybe a cauldren would be nice, i have more than enough tools for divination) hopefully in the future I'll get a few more.
This is my witch aesthetic !!
It's a mix of the typical green witch but with a more cozy twist.
π―: honestly when it's about witchcraft i get most of my sources for free online so the last book I've read was a looong while back and that was The Green Witch by Arin Murphy- Hiscock. Unfortunaly i cant remember much. :<
π : at this moment i mostly do it in my room due it it just being my most comfortable place in general and I'm a bit afraid of doing it outside in case people see me. I live in a small suburban neighbourhood so it'd definitely raise some eyebrows. However I do have a place in mind in a few nearby woods that i can also practice witchcraft at so I'm just in the process of researching a few spells i could do there and how to generally take my craft outside more.
I don't really have a mentor or someone who guides me, i just absorb all the knowledge i can through research and look at other peoples experiences, thats where most of my knowledge comes from, though having a magical mentor does sound nice.
π : I very much dress like a tomboy with a mix of dark academia in my free time. Most clothes i own are second hand and i look out for things that contain polyester in order to have a more natural wardrobe. When i have work tho i usually wear an oversized hoodie and black cargo pants for comfort. ( i work retail atm, no need to dress up like id do in my free time )
πΏ : Definitely my rws tarot deck. Its the one i can read the best and feel most comfortable with.
π : I'm an omnist hellenist, currently only following Thanatos because deiety work is a lot of effort but I'm looking into Apollo, Hypnos and Dyonosus as well. My main interest for the future definetly falls more into nature deieties so I'm also interested in Pan.
Regarding folklore, I'm from germany. The brothers Grimm have given me a lot of material to work with and im definitely more than happy with what i have. Maybe one day I'll try to connect to one of these figures from the stories but currently theyre not included in my craft.
π£ : " To each their own " is also my general motto in life along with " live and let live " because they both empathise how we're all different and follow our practice in different ways. Someone isn't worse than another one because they're more modern in their craft or aren't super " witchy ", it isn't a one size fits all. We all juet have different needs and wabts and that manifests in its own way through our craft.
π : honestly this is a hard one but when i think about my craft i think of hills and valleys, fields that stretch long into the distance, full of rye and lush forests filled with all kindsof mysteries. ( maybe also a few ruins ? This could just be my fantasy brain taking over ). Oh to be a travelling witch in a fantasy, world.
Alright, this was actually the first prompt game i ever participated in so i hope i did everything well. Once again thank you for tagging me, i hope you have a great day !!
βIs it rude/hurtful to ask a writer if they used ChatGPT, even if you're almost certain they did?
Context: I just discovered a fanfic writer, but their writing seems kinda off. They use a lot of phrases that ChatGPT normally uses. They once wrote for a request, but the note in the beginning reads like the ChatGPT "Absolutely! Here is a set of headcanons about ____:"
I don't think they use it 100%, and I really don't wanna assume the worst since I do like their writing and ideas. Would it be wrong for me to drop an anon into their inbox politely asking them if they used AI to help them with their work?β
From the scenario above, do you think it's rude/hateful for the submitter to ask if the writer in question uses ChatGPT in their works?
Yes, it's rude/hateful
No, it's fine

Unless you are absolutely, 100%, certain, it is always rude to ask a writer this. Because on the off chance that you are wrong, you could very likely stop a person from creating or sharing their art altogether. No matter how polite you are being.
Also worth mentioning that ChatGPT mimics their writing style from the way real humans write. And also someone whose English isn't their first language may not write the way a native English speaker writes (hence it could feel a bit unnatural, like it was written by AI).
So yeah, overall I'd say it is not only rude but you may end up discouraging or stopping a genuine writer from creating altogether.
If you suspect someone's works are AI generated but are not 100% sure, you can just stop engaging with their works without saying anything. Because you will cause more harm than good if you are wrong and you tell them their works look AI, and it's just not worth it.
My opinion is that if it's accessed for free and something the writer does purely out of passion then yes you shouldn't say it. This may discourage writers and keep in mind that what they're doing is not some sort of service and you can just leave the work be.
However, if it was about a commercial piece you pay for to access then knowing wether it was ai or not is very important.
