ohhh my god I just fact-checked, Nolan actually DID cut the "Nobody" scene from his Odyssey movie. Mfer that is like cutting the Father reveal from Star Wars. Let me speak in a language you understand this is like not dressing Batman up in his suit. "It was not possible to work it in" the TikTok musical with a budget of $4 and a scratched Hamilton CD managed to work it in in SONG form, step up your FUCKING GAME
Hanahaki disease is a psychosomatic illness. It's a thing that your body does in response to stress over constantly repressing/concealing your feelings in settings with high background magic. It's like you've been ignoring pain for a long time and suddenly your vision starts going dark, because your affected body is just YANKING on random alerts trying to get you to PAY ATTENTION there is a PROBLEM. Yes the flowers do really exist. So do non-magical psychosomatic symptoms. The flowers aren't special.
This does of course open up the trope to options for non-romantic concealed feelings. Which I think is great. There is something viscerally satisfying about the person who seems so outwardly chipper coughing and hacking and spitting up Depression Flowers so now everyone has to know they're hurting. Isn't there?
Hanahaki, but it's a child that feels neglected by their parents.
Hanahaki, but it's someone whose friends have started ghosting them.
Hanahaki, someone's wife is cheating on them.
Hanahaki, the disease that gives you three options: confront your feelings, destroy the love you hold for someone or perish choking on roses.
"we cut the nobody scene from the odyssey" "we cut the religious trauma and parental abuse from carrie" i'm starting to think that studios barely funding original films is starting to have an effect where directors make up a story and then slap an IP on it in order to sell. or maybe some bitches just can't read anymore idk it's one or the other
You can wear human skin to look like him. But you'll never have his loving eyes.

One thing about me is that I will subject my best friend to my hyperfixations.
how to tell mutual they intrigue me greatly and i would be honoured to be allowed to grow a friendship where i may study them up close without saying any of that
how to tell mutual i know i havent interacted with them directly in like five months but i still think of them highly and semifrequently and their art is still a source of inspiration for my own
In this world, there is no love for no reason, but there is hatred for no reason. The two people who may not have met before can be enemies.

a really really really underrated feeling in learning a different language is when you start to hear words. as in it's no longer a string of sounds, you can parse through where words start and stop as you're hearing them. even words that you don't know what they mean yet but you can distinctly hear it as a whole word
matcha originated in China about 1200 years ago, açaí has been consumed by Indigenous communities in the Amazon for centuries, and Dubai chocolate was invented by combining chocolate with knafeh, an 1100 year old SWANA snack.
western (usually white but seemingly not in this case) people love to call nonwhite foods suddenly becoming popular in western mainstream culture "industry plants" as if they haven't always existed.
this is orientalism.

this site is actually insane and so amazing for anyone who reads historical cnovels and wants to understand historical context
you can find things like: * this map of chang'an when it was the capital of the tang dynasty
or * this reference on the various measurements and units, their conversions to more widely known western units, and their regional/dynastic variations or * this list of sayings related to marriage
etc etc etc
