RTD was my all time favourite era and didn’t really fall in love with another doctor until thirteen who i adored though I liked them all but I was so excited for RTD to come back cause I was hoping for season 1-4 vibes and it just fell so tremendously short. I got excited during the well cause I pieced together what planet they were on and yelled “MIDNIGHT!” And got goosebumps and was hoping for a good continuation of one of my all time favourite episodes only to be very disappointed. My siblings who watched doctor who with me their whole lives but aren’t caught up saw the disney episodes and were appalled. They’re just so unbelievably bad and I kept watching hoping RTD would find his footing and he never did. Statistically he wrote the majority of my favourite episodes back in the day and I can fully say I didn’t like any of the new ones.

Side note I honestly loved the concept of the timeless child. We all knew the doctor was different and I loved that direction. It just needed better writing and more context

I saw the confession on the jwcc-confession blog about Brooklynn’s prosthetic, and I completely agree with them. There has always been something off about that plot line to me, and it’s just because it’s an ableist take.

But it’s not ableist because the story itself is ableist, it’s ableist because, from my research, Brooklynn is the franchise’s *first and only* physically disabled human character that could use and has used a prosthetic.

She’s the first, of hopefully many, and they decided to start off with a prosthetic being forced onto her by the villain and associating the device itself with the evil, morally wrong side. They turned it into a symbol of how deep into the gray Brooklynn was, and that’s part of the problem.

It is important to show ableism, especially the harsher realities if it. I’m disabled myself use mobility aids on and off, and I’ve been forced into treatment that wasn’t helpful and only further traumatized me, so I do understand the need for this kind of representation, but it has to come in layers, especially for franchises.

The first physically disabled character that they could’ve given a prosthetic should not have been the one used to show how treatment and aids can be forced or pressured onto someone without any room for them to breathe or make a decision, and their rejection of that treatment and/or aids shouldn’t have been be part of the climax.

For a comparison, imagine if they went a similar route with Yasmina, having her forced into therapy, fully admitted against her will, only for it to have hurt her more.

Would it have been realistic? Yes.

Should it be the story of the first and only character from that group you’re representating? Absolutely not.

There were other ways to introduce the idea of Brooklynn using a prosthetic for that season without having the prosthetic itself be solely associated with the evil side. She could’ve conned one out of Santos, so at the very least it was her idea, either because she was testing the waters of what she could get from her or because she genuinely wanted it, and then have Santos hold it over her head later and display the exact same ableist behavior, like pressuring her to wear it more. Brooklynn would’ve had control, lost it, and then the mobility aid becomes a device for Santos to exert dominance and control over her, except it’s not done in a way that villainises the mobility device itself and that way her ditching it later wouldn’t have felt so off and anti-prosthetic.

And if they absolutely had to go with the “it was forced on her, she had no choice,” plot, they could’ve had an extra with a prosthetic to show that it’s right for some people, but not others, and maybe not for her (either right now or ever).

As much as I love Soyona I feel like it would have been more symbolic to have her punch her or something with it instead of using it like a bludgeon so she would be showing her strength with it while also using what Soyona gifted her against her so it’s reclaiming what it means and maybe accepting it as part of her. A tool to hit back instead of using for evil. Maybe even accepting it as something she finds actually useful to her instead of something that was just forced and discarded. I kinda hope they show Brooklyn getting a new prosthetic so it shows that she was rejecting Soyona’s gift over anything else but it does seem kinda dumb to fight more bad guys without a tool that has been so useful and that she got used to using

Adding on more, I know Jac said Rio’s reaction was because she knew the abuse Agatha suffered at the hand of her mother, but what if in other universes, Evanora did kill her as a baby and Rio had to guide a newborn Agatha to the afterlife, maybe multiple times, and it was so disturbing, even to death herself

i'm just curious bc i'm watching How to Train Your Dragon and i always forget how happy and calm it makes me feel. i mean, i did name my cat after Toothless the dragon. but i also love Lion King, that's my Disney comfort movie. and my Ghibli comfort movie is Spirited Away. watching any of these when i'm in a foul mood or my anxiety is high always helps 🥰 but i watch them just for fun too, not only when i'm in a mood. what about you?

Throughout the series she expressed intense desire for more power. She stayed trying to go after Sabine until Ahsoka put a stop to it and set her running off. Let’s be SO serious rn

No, Wolfren and Oshamir are not 100% similar, I was comparing them because they’re both enemies to lovers and also it was wolfwren shippers claiming Leslye was a “self hating lesbian” because Oshamir is a thing and how it’s so abusive and toxic…..when they ship Shin and Sabine. No one is saying shin is uwu and has not killed people, she’s a mercenary…. Also no, she is not power hungry and going after power. She asks baylan, her master, what do they want… and HE says power and that she is something more than Jedi, and she repeats that after. If she was so power hungry she would have gone back to thrawn and taken her place with them like baylan told her, but she didn’t.

Shin is an antagonist to Sabine, she is not a villain. shin is morally grey, not evil. And she is shown over the season doubting her master and side eyeing both Morgan and thrawn, AND considering ahsoka’s hand. Qimir??? He is evil, he out there wanting power and calling people “it”. LETS BE SERIOUS RIGHT NOW.

Are we not calling sith evil cause they are hot now? There is nothing wrong with liking an evil character. Just don’t compare it to other characters that are nothing alike so you don’t piss people off. It’s that simple. Evil is a spectrum, and qimir and shin are in different sides of it.

No one has ever say that wolfwren is healthy, we all call it toxic yuri for a reason. But I’m sorry, it not oshamir levels of toxic.

Shin got a mission to kill Sabine given by her master and she set off to do that, it’s not personal. Qimir is out there swapping twins and gaslighting and manipulating osha into thinking he was right in killing all her friends so he can take her as his acolyte and seducing her in the process.

Sabine was literally a bounty hunter at one point and second handedly killed hundreds of people too with the weapon she designed. What I gather over star wars is that “good” and “evil” are blurred. Bounty hunters can be good people. Jedis can be bad. Sith can change their minds. People make choices that lead one way or the other. Im not personally interested in osha/qimir but that’s just my opinion and I don’t hate people for their likes.

Shin has only acted on orders. She could have done way worse than she did and I see room for growth now that her master is not in the picture. She can make her own choices now. Star wars has always had a lot on forgiveness when it comes to “evil” characters because they often have a reason for why they do things. Not all like palpatine but even vader was redeemed in the end and if you have watched the clone wars, anakin wasn’t a bad guy. He fought against the dark side for a long time. Even ahsoka has her moments.

So until the show is over, I don’t see a reason for any hate yet. It might make you uncomfortable. Maybe that’s the writers goal, but you can’t blame people for being optimistic about characters they like in a series that changes a person’s allegiance so suddenly.

We even got clones that despite removing their chips, decided to side with the empire and “follow orders” before realizing it was wrong. How is shin any different from crosshair. He made mistakes. He hurt and killed people. But he needed that journey to understand and I’m willing to give new characters the benefit of the doubt until there’s enough information on their motives to better judge the character. And even if im uncomfortable or hate a character, there’s no reason for me to hate people who do like them.

I don’t personally ship osha and qimir but I do see that he’s more than a bloodthirsty killer like other sith. Obviously there’s not enough footage yet of his character as a sith and he does use manipulation like so many other siths but he seems to have a reason for why he is the way he is and until I know that, im going to keep an open mind. I don’t like him now, but possibly in the future I might
