Can you explain why sveta joined Bolshoi instead of Mariinsky?

She didn’t actually, she graduated from Vaganova in 1996 (I think) and joined the Mariinsky immediately afterwards. She danced all the leading roles at the Mariinsky before joining the Bolshoi in 2003. She apparently left because of ‘discontent at the Mariinsky’ and that she didn’t appreciate the constant pressure to be absolutely perfect. At the Bolshoi, it’s a little bit less detail oriented and stylistically pure like the Mariinsky, perhaps she felt she could express herself more.

I thought it was because since she danced the entire repertoire of Mariinsky when she was 24 and there was nothing left for her.

Oh well. You learn something every day :)

sometimes I watch Svetlana and I get so sad that my heart hurts because I know I'll never dance like her. other times I am so overwhelmed with joy because I can sit in my room and watch her youtube videos over and over again.
