It wasn’t that Bucky hadn’t picked up that Tony didn’t much care for his dad, that there was some obvious tension there - and from what Steve had said, from before Bucky had joined them, it was best just to not mention Howard at all.

Except sometimes, sometimes Tony did, and Bucky didn’t think much of it.

Until that goddamn old flagged medical report, and Tony’s almost vicious reaction. Until the talk, later, with Tony insisting over and over that he’d made Howard mad, that he’d messed up, that it hadn’t been Howard, of course not.

Hawkeye #19 was well worth the wait. I thought nothing would ever top Pizza Dog.

#19 is mostly in sign language with very little subtitles showing just how awesome the medium of comics can be.

So we picked up Hawkeye #19 today, and my darling daughter bought herself the graphic novel of “My Life As A Weapon” and is now upstairs reading the rest of the set through today’s issue. Two generations of women, both with disabilities, who are in awe and delight (and one in tears) at what Fraction and Aja have done. And then the teenager is going to start reading Captain Marvel in the morning. I shall count this as good parenting…

I'm liking the electric details on Natasha's costume, and Tony's armor is way better than the IM3 armor. I liked the spirit behind it, but it was just too much gold. It looked wrong.

I was curious how Dauterman was going to do with Esad Ribic’s designs. I think he fits Jason Aaron’s idea that this Thor will be more like a Kirby “pop” comic.

This is my theory on how a little old guy from New York somehow got locked up in a London "loony bin."

Basically, all his cameos are just him pretending to be other people and sometimes even stealing identities. So getting locked up is the consequence of him going from place to place pretending to be a general, Larry King, a high school librarian, Hugh Hefner, a judge at a small-town beauty pageant, etc. He gets away with it because he's adorable, but he's also a criminal mastermind.

I mean, he probably committed a lot of crimes to keep up that lifestyle! Or maybe he really believed he was each of those people. Either way, his life of identity theft finally caught up with him in London.

Of course, we know he broke out again and ended up in DC with a bunch of very valuable artifacts at the Smithsonian, but he had to split once the uniform got stolen. He's now roaming free around the US. He may even be armed and dangerous, or at the very least working at a very random location waiting for his chance to shout a one-liner.

Hiya, just wanted to let you know that I've been enjoying reading your articles on 'Women in Refrigerators.' They've been very helpful in my research for a meta article I'm doing. I was curious if you feel that things have gotten better in comics as regards to this topic?

We seem to go through waves. 

It gets better, then we get a bunch of crappy shock value stories that seem all too familiar. Then it gets better, again.

One thing that I am very suspicious of right now is the late-comer to the cause…people who have never cared about the female readership, have sometimes openly been scornful of the female readership, suddenly acting as though they have cared deeply all along.

I think some creators have suddenly woken up and seen who is going to cons, who is writing on Tumblr, and thought, “Uh, oh. Better look like I care!”

If someone didn’t care about the female readership and characters until this past year or so, I am a little skeptical of their motives. Maybe motives don’t matter, I don’t know. But I do remember the writers who have pushed for better representation before it became a statistical necessity.

And I buy their stuff!  :)

Okay, I’m gonna tell you a thing about Tony Stark in Invincible Iron Man Vol. 3. 

He likes kids. He’s good with kids. He cares about kids. He wants kids.

He’s not awkward or uncomfortable around them, he’s not irritated by them, he doesn’t treat them like particularly unsavory foreign objects — not when they’re little, not when they’re surly teenagers, not at all. 

None of this is the same as deciding to have them; I don’t really think that Vol. 3 Tony would choose that outside of extenuating circumstances where some kid’s welfare fell squarely in his hands, because he’s aware of the life he leads and aware of his own very significant shortcomings and flaws. 

But just check out a few examples of what I’m talking about, yeah?
