Fucked casting Hadestown idea: having the actresses that played Eurydice play the chorus when Orpheus gets down to Hadestown, making them all the past versions of her that never made it out, having forgotten that they were once hopeful like Eurydice is now and getting their hopes up, just for Orpheus to fail again.

The ship in this edit is the Carpathia, the ship that rescued survivors of the Titanic. After receiving the distress call, the crew pushed her beyond her limits, getting there faster than it was thought possible, severely damaging the engines and risking the lives of engineers, one of whom allegedly put a hat over a steam gauge to hide the alarming numbers. The other passengers vacated rooms, preparing space for the survivors. The head chef directed the kitchens to make enough food for 2000+ people, ready to feed all the passengers of the Titanic.
But by the time they got there, even pushing themselves to the brink of destruction, there were only 712 left to save.

the craziest staging in hadestown will forever be eurydice running after orpheus in chant and him NOT turning around and that being the issue. he doesn’t see her!!! the reason she goes to hadestown is BECAUSE he doesn’t turn around!!! it’s an old song it’s a tragedy!!!!!!
Hades gives Orpheus a trial he knows he himself could never succeed at, but it isn’t just that Hades knows he would turn around. Hades has been failing this trial every single year. He shows up too early. He turns too soon. He is so full of doubt that even the natural order of the world, that Persephone will return to him, is not something he can trust. Hades would fail the trial he has given Orpheus, and he already has. All alone, his blood runs thin.
hermes in hadestown is the exact opposite of an unreliable narrator. a tortured narrator. a little *too* reliable. incredibly aware of exactly what is happening at any given moment, vaguely spoiling it for you in the beginning, despairing every second of it. but ultimately motivated to continue to tell the story over and over and over with a smiling face for the sake of the audience, and for the sake of the characters themselves, singing it again to keep them alive. knowing how it will end, but singing it again so that the cycle may restart and eurydice may come back to life. enduring the misery of it all, over and over, holding the knowledge of what will come to pass but continuing anyway to see orpheus happy just one more time before it all goes down in flames again.

I've only seen Hadestown once. It was in a high school theater, put on by a relatively new youth theater collective. Nothing terribly special, but there's one thing I'll remember forever.
The Fates, in myth, weave threads of life. This performance gave the fates a red string. In Doubt Comes In, the moment Orpheus turned around, they cut the string and used the two halves to pull Eurydice back to Hades and to hold Orpheus back from going to her. And, more than that, Orpheus didn't sing her name. He screamed it.
That moment, that Orpheus screaming and lunging after Eurydice despite being literally held back by fate, is something I'm never going to forget.

I don't know if stupid pearl clutchers know this, but the largest cohort of people who need diapers/nappies, has traditionally been babies, and it is a long established norm to put images of the target customer demographic on the packaging.
If people can't detach their sexualisation of continence aids from the children (and adults) that need them, that's their problem and actually they are the one who needs to stop projecting their sexualisation of children on diaper packaging as something the rest of us need to care about.
As a glasses wearer who will literally have one of if not the worst headache of my life if I go long enough without wearing my glasses AND has a hard time wearing my spare glasses for a long time now that my eyes have changed JUST enough to be annoying, I think the metaphor also works in a "people inconveniencing or harming themselves to avoid things they don'r wanna see" kind of way too.
