“To the one who loves him next, His favorite color is blue, his favorite movie is American Beauty, and he loves cats more than dogs. You don’t need to know any of that. To love him, you need to know that when he was a kid he was so afraid of death he wouldn’t let his dad out of his eye sight for weeks. In fact, he’s still so scared of death that you need to remind him that you’re still there and always will be. It may be a lie, but it helps him sleep and keeps him happy. You need to know that his dad is his favorite person and he despises his mother. He may not explain why immediately, but he will with time and if you leave the door open to your soul he’ll eventually prop open his. You need to know that he is, as we liked to always joke, “emotionally unavailable.” This doesn’t mean that he cares any less, he just has a terrible way of showing it and runs at the first sign of commitment. Just wait. He will commit. Finally, you need to know how deeply he loves. This boy has such a big heart and although he does not love vastly he loves so deeply. He loved me unconditionally and I wish I could’ve loved him just the same, but sometimes the stars don’t align and things don’t work out quite as you expected. Please cherish the way his smile brightens a room, how his eyes always say what he’s feeling, and how his freckles are scattered so cutely along the top of his ears. These were always my favorite things about him. Just remember, he is not an easy nut to crack, but when you do I promise it will be so worth it. Take care of him for me. Sincerely, the girl who will always love him.”
