Second, this is actually a great microcosm of government mandated compliance. You would think, that if the intended outcome of masks was to save lives, mask supporters would want to make every possible allowance so that masks were as unburdonsome to wear as possible. The response to "masks make my glasses fog up" (or "masks make it hard to breathe" or "masks make me break out" etc) would be to offer alternatives that give the same supposed protection, but avoid the problem caused by the generic masks that everyone else is expected to wear. And yet, the reaction from both the government and most mask supporters was almost invariably "do it anyway or you will die/cause death/be put in a camp/have your kids taken away/be barred from public life/otherwise be punished." The only possible way to read that is that the intended outcome of mandatory masking wasn't to save lives, but to force compliance. And you see further proof all throughout the "pandemic". Social distancing was made up and did nothing, vaccines didn't stop you from getting or spreading covid, mask mandates did nothing to change covid spread rates, large gatherings didn't spread covid or kill people even if they weren't BLM protests (which were supposed to be magically safe from covid, if you'll remember), etc. Not a single reaction to covid was meant to save lives. They were all meant to force compliance.
