Tokyo Encounter ENG updates
Hi, all!
Thank you for your continued inquiries about Tokyo Encounter ENG. As it’s my birthday today, I figure it’s a good time to get back into it. Expect updates soon!
Thank you for all of your support, mostly in the form of questions asking if I was ever going to pick this series up again, but unfortunately, I did not receive the one kind of support I wanted, which is for someone to host backups of the videos for me on their own media storage account. I’ve been asking for this for years and no one has come forward. Among other things, the lack of support in this simple request is what led me to take a long break from subbing.
Also, a few people have asked if they can use my English subtitles to make subs in their language (Spanish, Vietnamese etc.). For the record, I am AGAINST THIS. Not because I don’t want my work used, or because I do not have confidence in the work done by me and my team, but because translating second-hand, NOT from the native language, is very poor form. Every translator knows this. Know those weird Chinese bootleg videos with infamously poor English subtitles? That’s how those come to be. Please always translate directly from the native language into your target language, without any additional translations in between. So, if you were wondering if you have my permission to use my English subs to translate into your native language, I am NOT okay with this. But I know I don’t have much of a leg to stand on because I am, after all, translating someone else’s content without permission in the first place so it doesn’t mean much for me to tell people “no”.
Anyway, thanks for enjoying Tokyo Encounter! I’ll talk to you all soon!
